ANNUAL ALL-STAR TEAM SELECTIONS WERE MADE RECENTLY IN CULVER CITY IN BOTH BOYS AND GIRLS DIVISIONS. AUGMON LED MUIR TO THE 1986 PACIFIC LEAGUE CHAMPIONSHIP AND TO THE 4-A DIVISION TITLE, $8-55, OVER MARMONTE LEAGUE CHAMPION SIMI VALLEY. Although averaging 20 points during regular season play, Stacey Augmon scored but 13 in the title game against Simi Valley. Suffering from a severe headache, Augmon was below par until the final two minutes of the title decider, when he completed a three point play and pulled down three critical rebounds to give the Mustangs the 4-A championship. Both Muir and Simi Valley were 27-2 going into the final game. Mulr, advancing to the Southern Regional playoffs, fell before San Diego Section champ Poway, 77-74. In Southern Section playoff action, Muir defeated Warren (6O-I4.8), Mission Viejo (69-58), San Gorgonio (71+-7O) and Dominguez (58-56). All players named for i}.-A Division all-star team honors will be recip- ients of framed scroll awards from First Interstate Bank in association with the Amateur Athletic Foundation of Los Angeles. The 49th annual Basketball Awards honoring all first-team members will be held in May, with players, coaches and high school administrators as honored guests. All-star teams follow: ALL - C.I.F. ANNUAL ALL-STAR BASKETBALL TEAMS, PICKED BY A BOARD OF SOUTHLAND SPORTS JOURNALISTS, WERE NAMED RECENTLY IN MEETINGS HELD IN CULVER CITY. Williams, a repeater from last year's 3-A Division first team, was a major force in the Wildcats' 31-3 season. He had 27 points and 16 rebounds in the 3-A Division finale against Ganesha, a team that came into the championship game 28-1. The 6-10 center had big games in the Southern Cal Regionals, as Wil- son registered consecutive 18-point-spread wins over Washington (Fresno)...52-3l|., and El Camino (Oceanside).. ,64-46. Wilson overpowered Northern Cal champion Aptc 72-46 for the state crown. On its way to the 3-A Division championship the Wildcats defeated La Quinta (92-67), Valencia (63-50), Claremont (69-60) and Katella (£2-50) before shading Ganesha for the title. All first-team players will be honored at First Interstate Bank's 49th annual Basketball Awards Program to be held in May. ANNUAL TEAMS WERE SELECTED LAST WEEK IN CULVER CITY BY PREP SPORTS JOURNALISTS FROM THROUGHOUT SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA. Lewis, 6-9 center who led the Cardinals to the San Andreas League title and into the semi-finals of the playoffs, was the CIF's sixth high scorer in '86 with a 26.2 point average. He was also among the section's top rebounders aver- aging 12 "boards" per outing. A top-seeded team in its division, San Bernardino lost to eventual cham- ion Murphy (53-51) in the 2-A semi-finals. The Cardinals wound up «86.. .26~ij.. Coach Jim Tinker's Murphy Nobles, Santa Fe League Champions, defeated San Dimas (61-58), Banning (63-60), South Pasadena (66-61), and San Bernardino (53-51) before meeting Charter Oak in the final game. The Nobles beat an ex- tremely cold Lancers five by 18 points, 47-29. Murphy concluded its season 20-8 after losing to El Camino of Oceanside in the Southern California Regionals 58-45. Charter Oak closed out its season 22-5. Framed scroll awards will go to all honored players, with first team members being honored at the 49th annual Basketball Awards Program to be held in May...date to be announced.
