THE TOTAL PERSON GRADUATING EVERY MEN’S SENIOR SINCE 1986

Xavier University has earned a reputation for student-athlete academic success. Every senior student-athlete in the men’s basketball program, including Matt Stainbrook (seen here at his graduation with President Michael J. Graham, S.J.), has graduated for the last 30 school years. That streak began in the 1985-86 school year. Xavier makes a promise to each student it recruits. That’s a promise XU keeps and celebrates every May at graduation.

A TOUGH TICKET COLLEGE BASKETBALL’S FIFTH-TOUGHEST PLACE TO PLAY

It’s a tough ticket. Xavier has already sold out 126 games since Cintas Center opened for the 2000-01 season. XU has averaged 10,014 fans per game over 15 years at the 10,250- seat facility. XU has won 87.0 percent of its games at Cintas Center, which ranks as the fifth-best home court advantage in the nation. It’s no wonder college basketball fans voted Xavier’s Cintas Center third among the “Toughest Places to Play” in college basketball in an EA Sports online poll.

23 CINTAS CENTER 2.0 BIG CHANGES IN STORE FOR THE HOME OF XAVIER BASKETBALL

Already one of college basketball’s finest on-campus facilities, the Cintas Center is embarking on a $25 million transformation. The first major piece of this project addressed Xavier’s Student-Athlete Academic Services. Previously housed in the Conaton Learning Commons, Academic Services now operates out of the new Kevin and Georgette Crawford Student-Athlete Academic Center in the Cintas Center. The new 8,000-square foot academic center allows Xavier to give all of its nearly 300 student-athletes convenient access to academic resources in the same building as the training room and weight room facilities.

24 NEW STRENGTH FACILITY 5,000 SQUARE FOOT ADDITION TO CINTAS CENTER OPENS IN SPRING 2016

Xavier’s new home for Xavier Strength and Conditioning is slated to open in the Spring of 2016. A 5,000 square foot addition to the north side of the Cintas Center, this space will serve as the primary weight room for Xavier Basketball. Featuring 20-foot ceilings, large exterior windows and a state-of-the-art sound system, this space will set the bar in terms of basketball strength facilities. The room will feature a 20-yard turf sprint area, designated spaces for cardio and strength training and the new Xavier Fuel Café, a one stop shop for Xavier student-athletes’ nutritional needs.

25 PROJECT OVERVIEW

EVENT LEVEL IMPACT PLANNING FOR NEW LOCKER ROOM, TRAINING ROOM AND MORE

The Cintas Center transformation will impact over 26,000 square feet on the event level. In addition to the new Xavier Strength and Conditioning facility, the revised event level will also feature a new Xavier Sports Medicine facility, a film room, student-athlete lounge, courtside club and men’s basketball locker room. Beyond this, planning for an additional practice court built off the north end of the Cintas Center is also underway.

26 COURTSIDE CLUB

GAME EXPERIENCE IMPACT FACILITY TRANSFORMATION WILL IMPACT FANS AS WELL

Improvements to the Cintas Center will not just impact Xavier student-athletes. Guests at Xavier games will also notice dramatic changes starting with the 2015-16 season. For this season, Xavier has expanded a popular craft beer bar known as D’artagnan’s Deck and opened the new Traditions Club off of the west concourse. Beyond this, planning for a new seating area known as “The Lookout” (pictured here) is also underway. Dramatic changes are also in store for the Joseph Lounge, as the balcony will be converted to living room style suite seating.

27 Xavier head coach uses a variety of tools as part of his Fortune 15 series. This past summer he brought in former Ohio State tailback Maurice Clarett to give the Musketeers a talk that lasted nearly two hours followed by questions and some individual meetings. The former Buckeye, who is making a name for himself as a no-nonsense motivational speaker, spoke about his upbringing, his rise to the top of the college football world, the mistakes that led to his fall and how he has battled back to re-invent and give new purpose to his life.

FORTUNE 15 XAVIER’S PERSONAL DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM

Xavier head coach Chris Mack introduced a program he calls the Fortune 15 Series - Building and Protecting Your Personal Brand. Components include character development, media training, social media training, career development, alumni engagement, community service and fan interaction. Giving the student-athletes access to successful alumni is important. The men’s basketball team met with Xavier graduate John Boehner when it was in Washington, D.C., last season for the Georgetown game. Boehner, who spent 25 years as a member of Congress, including five years as the U.S. Speaker of the House, spoke to the team about his career path and took questions.

28 COMMUNITY OUTREACH MAKING A DIFFERENCE OFF THE COURT

The men’s basketball players and coaches volunteered along with other Xavier student-athletes to support the Greater Down Syndrome Association of Cincinnati’s Annual Buddy Walk in September. Xavier men’s basketball student-athletes have gotten involved, including a youth clinic for United Way and the Boys and Girls Club of Greater Cincinnati as part of the Xavier Community Partners Program, volunteering at the City Gospel Mission and raising money for Thanksgiving turkeys for needy families in Cincinnati.

29 DAVID WEST “ I wish I could talk to young people looking at colleges and tell them what a great place Xavier is. When you need help, key people all over the campus are always accessible to help you. The support you get makes this a much less stressful place to succeed. People here care about helping you excel.”

CHRIS PAUL “ Coach Mack is a great teacher and he’s always been a great friend and mentor to me. He made me a better player and a better person. Players love to play for him because he is passionate about their development and the success of the team. He is also very personable. But what makes him great is his competitive nature. He demands a competitive approach at all times. If you like to win and hate to lose, you’ll love playing for Coach Mack. I’ve known Coach Mack since I’ve been in high school. I’m just grateful that we are still good friends to this day. I root for Xavier partly because I have so many connections like him and Coach (Skip) Prosser, and Coach (Jeff) Battle. I’ve been teammates with David West and I’ve played with James Posey and Aaron Williams too. Mainly I root for Xavier, though, because I want Coach to do well.” CHRIS MACK A COMPETITOR AND A WINNER

Head Coach Chris Mack, a two-time team captain as a player at Xavier, was the 2010-11 Atlantic 10 Conference Coach of the Year, the 2010-11 winner of the Award and the 2009-10 Basketball Times Rookie Coach of the Year. During his 16 years on the staffs at Xavier and Wake Forest, including five out of his six seasons as the Xavier head coach, Mack has coached on 14 teams that have made postseason play, including 13 teams that have made the NCAA Tournament field.
