UHV begins its inaugural men‟s soccer pro- gram in the 2010 season.

The first two signees for the program were local products Seth Prochaska of Edna, and Stiven Ospina of Victoria.

Head coach Adrian Rigby‟s first squad will consist of 30 players.

Men‟s soccer is one of four athletic programs that UHV currently offers. The other three are baseball, softball and golf.

A total of 220 teams compete in men‟s soccer in the NAIA and comprise 25 different confer- ences, including the Association of Independ- ent Institutions in which UHV is a member.

Lindsey Wilson (Ky.) is the defending men‟s NAIA national champion after defeating The Master‟s (Calif.) last year 1-0 in the title game.

HISTORY

UHV begins its inaugural men‟s soccer program in the fall of 2010 with head coach Adrian Rigby. The sport is one of four athletic programs currently offered by UHV. UHV instituted its athletic pro- gram four years ago with baseball and softball and now brings on soccer as well as golf. The Jaguars will begin play on their own athletic field located on the UHV campus and look to con- tinue the success their other ath- letic programs have enjoyed since 2008.

2010 SEASON OUTLOOK SEASON OUTLOOK

With 22 freshmen on the roster in the UHV Jaguars inaugural season it might just be easy for opponents to overlook the up-start program in 2010. With his young team, coach Adrian Rigby made sure the competition level would be highly competi- tive with seven NCAA schools on the list, includ- ing four Division II schools and three Division III. The Jaguars will also go up against seven NAIA schools including 16th- rank UT-Brownsville. The Jaguars will open the season on the road against NCAA Division II foe St. Mary‟s University, before hosting three straight home games against Concordia-Austin, Huston-Tillotson and Lutheran. CUA and TLU are both D-III institu- tions, while Huston- Tillotson is a NAIA com- petitor. The Jaguars will also host Our Lady of the Lake, UT-Brownsville, Hill College, the University of Mobile and Houston St. Thomas, while they will have road games against , Huston- Tillotson, OLLU, St. Thomas, Texas A&M-International, St. Edward‟s University, the College of the Southwest, Ouachita Baptist University and LSU-Shreveport. The squad should be tested each and every time out as it works toward its goal of the NAIA National Tournament to be held Nov. 29—Dec. 4 in Orange Beach, Iowa. Coach Rigby will relying heavily on transfers Rommel Morales (Jr., goalkeeper, Oral Roberts), Javier Acosta (jr., midfielder, St. Gregory‟s), Israel Zamora (jr., midfielder, Ranger College), Rudy Castrejon (jr., defender, Lon Morris), Ubaldo Lucio (soph., midfielder, Houston Baptist), and Fredy Gallaga (jr., de- fender, Lon Morris) to provide the early leadership and experience for his club. Among the newcomers Rigby will be counting on are Walter Anorou, who was first team all-district his junior and senior seasons at J. Frank Dobie High School in Houston; Martin Bautista who was also first team all-district as a junior and senior as well as the Defensive MVP as a senior at Alief Taylor; Eric Contreras, who was the District 27-5A Defensive MVP at Judson; David Orta, who was first team all- district for three season at Manvel; Taylor Spreen, who was first team all-district; Andrew Perez, who was all-region as a junior and the Offensive Player of the Year as a senior at Corpus Christi King High School; and Stiven Ospina, who had a stellar career at Victoria Memorial where he was the district MVP as a junior, as well as all-region. 6-2010 JAGUARS MEN’s SOCCER 2010 TEAM ROSTER

Adrian Rigby becomes the first head soccer coach at the University of Houston-Victoria. Rigby comes to UHV after spending the past five seasons as an assistant coach at St. Ed- ward‟s University where the Hilltoppers claimed the 2009 Heartland Conference title. During his time at St. Edward‟s, the team achieved an NSCAA top-25 ranking in the 2006 and 2008 seasons, climbing as high as No. 12 in the 2008 poll. Rigby also helped the Hilltoppers earn the NSCAA all-academic team recognition from 2006 to 2009 with teams maintaining at least a 3.0 GPA. Prior to St. Edward‟s, Rigby served as a graduate assistant coach/head goalkeeper trainer at Midwestern State University for two seasons. During his time at MSU, the team advanced to the NCAA Elite Eight in 2003. In 2004, the Midwestern goalie was named the Southwest Soccer Conference Goalkeeper of the Year. A native of North Delta, British Co- lumbia, Canada, Rigby graduated from Averett University in 2001 with a BS in Sports Medi- cine/Wellness and completed his MEd in Cur- riculum Instruction and Kinesiology at Midwest- ern State in 2005. A four-year starter at Averett, he was se- lected to the 1998 all-state team and the 1998 and 2001 all-conference teams.
