SATURDAY, JANUARY 25 Parker Poe THRIVE Program: Succeeding in Law School and Beyond 08:30 AM | Parker Poe Raleigh Office

Parker Poe would like to invite APALSA members to Parkers Poe’s 2020 “THRIVE: Succeeding in Law School & Beyond” program. The goal of THRIVE is to help minority law students navigate law school, make a successful transition into the practice of law after graduation, and thrive as they embark on their legal career—whatever path they may choose.

The THRIVE program will be held at Parker Poe's office in Raleigh, North Carolina on Saturday, January 25, 2020. The program is scheduled from 8:30a.m. to 2:30p.m., with breakfast and lunch provided. Our keynote speaker will be Chief Justice Cheri Beasley, the 29th Chief Justice of the North Carolina Supreme Court. In addition to holding the highest judicial office in North Carolina, Chief Justice Beasley also leads North Carolina’s judicial branch of government. Chief Justice Beasley is the first African-American woman to serve as chief justice in North Carolina’s history and only the fourth in the country’s history to serve as chief justice of any state’s highest court.

During this year’s program, we will have a speaker session on building your professional and personal brand. This session will be followed by three smaller breakout sessions on topics related to (i) thriving as a minority in law school and your legal practice, (ii) effective communication skills for law students and new lawyers and (iii) understanding the distinction between a litigation practice and a transactional practice, while highlighting different approaches to having a successful legal career. During lunch, students will also be able to participate in informal roundtable discussions with Parker Poe attorneys and other students. Finally, students will have an opportunity to participate in an individual mock interview with a Parker Poe attorney after the conclusion of the formal program.

Please see our THRIVE webpage at www.parkerpoe.com/thrive for program details. To register for the THRIVE program, students may send an email to [email protected] or call Crystal Jones at (704) 371-6165. Students are also welcome to contact Ms. Jones directly with any questions.
