Fri, Mar 13 at 9pm Alex Kelly -songwriter Alex Kelly is the former lead singer for electro-pop band Maungus. She released her debut EP, Sticky Butterfly, in 2010, and her first full-length album, Orange Circle, was a 2012 collaboration with Kelsey Warren (pILLOW tHEORY) and Justin Rose (GCR Audio). Examiner.com hailed the latter as a “sassy dance-rock album that set the standard that artists like Jessie J and Karmin continue to emulate.” Kelly has performed at Restoration Rocks Festival, Northside Festival, and the CMJ Music Marathon. Her upcoming album is a departure from the heavily electronic sound of her previous works, and will explore a fusion of soul, blues, and jazz sounds.

Nasimiyu fuses southern brass, Midwestern folk, African rhythms, 60s pop, and 90s R&B, creating a brassy, gritty musical atmosphere. dirt. features several guest artists and was hailed by critics across the US, including Okayplayer, who wrote, "Picture the soulful ringleader of a circus- folk orchestra–such is the big dreamer’s vibe of this latest gem.”

She has toured New York, Texas, and California, and her self-proclaimed “femme metale” sound is evocative of bands like Nine Inch Nails, Siouxsie and the Banshees, and Metallica. Militia Vox stepped forward as a solo artist with BAIT (2014), half of a two-album concept series called The Villainess, which presents her as a response to and antithesis of the modern pop princess.

Sat, Mar 21 at 9:30pm Sasha Dobson Born to musician parents in California, Sasha Dobson was performing with the entire family at the Monterey Jazz Festival by age 12. After moving to Brooklyn at 17 and releasing two albums— 2005’s The Darkling Thrush, recorded with the Chris Byars Octet, and 2006’s Modern Romance—she began touring with Norah Jones as a musician and backing vocalist. Fri, Mar 27 & Sat, Mar 28 at 9pm Telmary Telmary is one of the shining stars of the Cuban underground music movement. Without placing herself completely in the hip-hop tradition, Telmary has been able to use the genre as a means of expressing her ideas and communicating with young people in Cuba. She has collaborated with the likes of Dr. John, Janet Bunnet, Isaac Delgado, Descemer Bueno, Kelvis Ochoa, the Afro- Cuban All Stars, Los Van Van, and the Buena Vista Social Club. She has performed and recorded with figures from the international hip-hop and electronica community such as Afrika Bambaataa, DJ Raphael Seebag of the United Future Orchestra, and DJ Akakage from Japan. Her first album, A Diario, was awarded the Cubadisco award for Best Hip-Hop Album in 2008, and her second album, Libre, won the same honor in 2014. Other awards include the 2006 Cubadiso Gran Premio as a member of jazz fusion collective Interactivo, and a 2009 Juno Award for her participation in Jane Bunnett’s album Embracing Voices. This will be Telmary’s third appearance at BAMcafé Live. These performances are part of Cuban Culture Festival New York, a city-wide multidisciplinary initiative in celebration of the American Friends of the Ludwig Foundation of Cuba’s 15th anniversary, and its efforts to promote arts exchange between the US and Cuba.
