    west coast music The Lowdown SPECIAL DANCES for Weddings: Please note that we will need to have your special dance requests, (I.E. First Dance, F/D Dance, etc) FOUR WEEKS in advance prior to your event so that we can confirm the band will be able to perform the song and will be able to locate sheet music, mp3 or CD of the song. If some cases where sheet music is not printed or an arrangement for the full band is needed, this gives us the time needed to properly prepare the music. Clients are not obligated to send in a list of general song requests. Many of our clients ask that the band just react to whatever their guests are responding to on the dance floor. Our clients that do provide us with song requests do so in varying degrees. Most clients give us a handful of songs they want played and avoided. If you desire the highest degree of control (allowing the band to only play within the margin of songs requested), we would ask for a minimum 80 requests. In 2016, she won the annual Down Beat Critics Poll in the Rising Star category for baritone saxophone. Lisa was featured alongside her sister, bassist Nicki, at the Tribute to Mary Lou Williams Festival at the Kennedy Centre. She has also performed with such names as Dave Brubeck, Nancy Wilson, Diane Schuur, Johnny Mandel, Skitch Henderson and the New York Pops, Gregory & Maurice Hines, Cindy Blackman, Gunther Schuller, Jason Linder’s Big Band, the Diva Jazz Orchestra, the Artie Shaw Orchestra & the Jimmy Heath Big Band. Her latest album Round Tripper recorded May 2014 in Brooklyn NY, features bassist Chris Lightcap, Matt Wilson on drums, and fellow Australian musicians Carl Dewhurst on guitar and Nadje Noordhuis on trumpet. Released in Feb 2015, Round Tripper has received many great reviews, including a 4 star review in Downbeat jazz magazine.     JMU JAZZ BAND/JAZZ ENSEMBLE AUDITION MATERIAL SPRING 2018 Auditions: Monday, January 8, 2018, room B12 in the School of Music (in the practice room area of the basement) The audition sign up sheet is on the door to B12 (drummers sign up as indicated; others may sign up for any available time) Everyone hoping to be placed into one of the two big bands must audition. Auditions will consist of playing the prepared excerpts (see below) and optional improvisation on a blues. Drummers will also asked to demonstrate various styles. No sight reading will be required at this audition. Trumpet and tenor trombone players may prepare either lead or section excerpts. Vocalists: no required excerpt; sing a prepared piece (melody only) of your choice that you feel best demonstrates your interpretation of jazz style. Choose any key that fits your preferred tessitura; be prepared to sing the melody a cappella. Jazz standards or Great American Songbook pieces are preferred. You do not need to supply sheet music.
