Home Learning for Reception (1.6.20 – 12.6.20) PSED: Getting ready to return back to school. As we follow the government guidelines and prepare to reopen our school, we would like you to start having discussions with your child about how they are feeling about this change. Here is a list of possible questions you may ask your child during your conversations: • Do you want to go back to school? • What have you missed most about not going to school? • How have you felt over the last few weeks about learning from home? • What are you looking forward to the most about going to school? • Do you understanding that school is not going to be the same as it was before, explain the changes to them and prepare them. • What will you miss most about not learning from home? • How are we going to protect ourselves and others while we are at school? Please look at the link on the school website named ‘When you come back to school’ to help you explain the changes that may take place at school. School Value: Our 6 school values are Empathy, Courage, Respect, Integrity, Self -Discipline and Gratitude. This term we are focussing on Gratitude. Discuss things that you are grateful for? How and where do you show gratitude? What are you thankful for? Ask who, what, where, how, when and why questions. Record videos of your child speaking and upload onto EExAT. PRE: Snana Yatra – The appearance day of Lord Jagannath. Please view the link on the school website to further teach your child about Snana Yatra. On Friday 5th June 2020 it is the appearance day (Birthday) of Lord Jagannath. In school we bathe the deities of Lord Jagannath, Subhadra and Balabhadra to celebrate Lord Jagannath’s birthday. They get a bath in ‘Mango milkshake’ just like Lord Chaitanya and Nitiyanada do at Gaura Purnima. Lord Jagannath had so much fun at his Birthday bathing that he gets sick and must go inside the temple to recover. This takes 2 weeks and we celebrate him getting better with the celebration of Ratha Yatra. 1. Please make a card for Lord Jagannath to help him get better or to wish him a happy birthday. 2. Colouring in of Lord Jagannath (Please find the pages provided on the school website) Here is a short video clip of the celebrations that take place: Snana Yatra in Puri 2019 Literacy/Story: Pirates love underpants Pirates love underpants storybook When writing, it is important that the children are allowed to practice their phonic sounds and NOT copy your writing. Please allow them to write independently first and then show them the correct spellings beside their writing. 1. Write a message in a bottle for a loved one. Who will you write a message to? Will you write a letter or a poem? (Use the template provided on the school website) 2. Make a wanted poster for a pirate. There is a nasty pirate that has been very mean to his co-workers, he has also stolen all the treasure from the pirate ship. He has now disappeared with all the treasure and nobody can find him. Create a poster to help us find him. Give the pirate a name, draw a detailed picture of him, describe what he looks like and lastly think of a reward for the person who finds him. (Use the temple provided on the school website) Verbal Presentation: Subject: ‘What are the new things/skills you have learnt during this Coronavirus pandemic’? Talk about all the different things you have learnt during your time at home? What can you do now that you could not do before. These could include things like riding a bike, cooking, baking, jobs around the house etc. Make a video and share it with your teachers on EExAT. Our days all improve when we see your smiling faces. Reading: The Read Aloud Challenge. Please ask your child to choose one of their favourite books or their school reading book and make a video of them reading aloud. Encourage them to use their sounds and try to work out what the words say. Please then upload the video of them to EExAT. Book Review: Choose your favourite home reading books and write a review. You can find free ones at the following link: Book Review Sheets or you can create your own. Remember it is important to think about what you didn’t like as well as what you did like when reviewing a book. Also, what would you change about the story if you were the author? Phonics Phase 2 and Phase 3 Sound, Tricky Word and High Frequency Word power points Mrs Assani and Miss Askham have made two presentations to support your child to recap their known sounds, tricky words and high frequency words.
