Learn how to fix Windows 10 update 1709 fails to install on this page step by step. David Darlington. Jul 05, 2021 • Filed to: Windows Computer Solutions • Proven solutions. Windows 10 Version 1709 is update of Windows operating system that was released in 2017, also known as the Windows 10 Fall Creators Update. This version was designed for visual creatives, with an enhanced Photos app and a brand-new paint app that is included, among others. However, some users have complained about errors in installation and download. We have compiled 10 ways you can solve this error on your own. Due to the nature of feature updates, ensure to back up your data to avoid losses. In the event you lose your data while doing a feature update, get in touch with Wondershare Recoverit to help you restore your lost data. Feature updates are newer versions of Windows 10 Operating System that are released twice a year. Previously, Windows would roll out new OS versions every 3 years. With the new servicing model, however, you now get regular updates within a year. This model of servicing is good for end users but due to the frequency of updates, errors in installing new updates have also increased. The common errors that come up while updating Windows 10 Version 1709 are: Issue no. 1 (error code 0x80080008) - After completing the download of version 1709, the system will ask to restart to proceed with the update installation. However, the installation fails and an error code 0x80080008 will be received with description: "Feature update to Windows 10, version 1709: Failed to install…" Issue no. 2 (error code 0x80d02002) - Windows 10 version 1709 Fall Creators Update will start to download but fail and stop thereafter, giving the error code 0x80d02002. The update download gets stuck at xx% e.g. 60% or 40% Part 1. Best way to solve a failed installation of feature update to Windows 10, version 1709. Solution 1. Delete the Windows Update Folder. Go to the Windows 10 downloads website and select Update now. To start installation after downloading, select Run on the prompt that appears. Otherwise, click Save to install files later. When a window asking to install updates appears, click Update Now. Solution 3. Use the Windows Update Troubleshooter. In the search taskbar, type in Troubleshoot and hit Enter. In the menu, navigate to Windows Update and then click Run the Troubleshooter. Click Try troubleshooting as an administrator to proceed with the process. Restart PC. Solution 4. Re enable the services disabled in step 2 by entering the commands in sequence: net stop bits net stop wuauserv net stop appidsvc net stop cryptsvc. Solution 5. Repair System Files with SFC. To repair an installation issue in Windows 10, you can use the System File Checker command tool. Press Win + X keys, press A, and select Yes to run Command Prompt by the administrator. Type the command SFC /scannow then enter to scan all Windows system files and repair them. Solution 6. Use the DISM Command Line Tool. Open elevated command prompt and type exe/Online /Cleanup-Image/Restorehealth and hit Enter. Wait until the command gets processed and repair is done. A prompt will appear indicating that the corruption in-store components have been repaired. Close the window and restart the PC. Solution 7. Disable Automatic Updates. Press Win + R to launch Run and type msc. Click OK. Find Windows Update Service and double click to open Properties. Set Startup type to Disabled and select OK. Restart PC. Solution 8. Temporarily disable your antivirus software. There are times when the antivirus software blocks the installation of new updates. As per the software's method, disable the antivirus, and observe if the issue persists. Solution 9. Update your device drivers. Wait for the update to complete. If an update is published in the Windows Update service, updates will be downloaded and installed automatically. To update drivers manually, open Device Manager, and expand on the drive you wish to update. Right-click on the drive and choose Update Driver. Choose Search automatically for updated driver software. Otherwise, click Browse my computer for driver software if you have the driver installed on your PC. On your search bar, type Settings and click on Update & Security. Choose Windows Update and then click the Check for updates. Part 2. How to postpone feature updates. Sometimes, you may not be ready to install feature updates due to your work schedule or not having time to wait for updates. The errors indicated above that come up while updating your Windows 10 features can be time consuming. To postpone updates to a later time, these are the steps: Click on the Windows Start button and go to Settings Under, settings, select update & Security then Windows Update Select Update settings then click on Advanced options Under Choose when updates are installed, select the number of days you want to postpone feature updates till the day you’re ready. The Windows 10 version 1709 Fall Creators Update has useful features and may be accessed once you have solved the problem that stops the download and installation process. Now Windows has downloaded update 1803 x64 2019-07B (I delayed the installation by 365 days) and wants to install it by restarting the computer. However, I have postponed this so far. I would like to update directly to 1903. I discovered the link. But since 1803 is already downloaded will this work? If yes, how do I delete the downloaded 1803? Or is this done automatically? • Rules of the Road for Safe Patching
Rules of the road for safe patching Monthly security patches ship on the second Tuesday of each month (Patch Tuesday). For all versions of Windows, defer them for at least 15 days. That should give Microsoft time to identify and fix any significant oopses. The exception is the rare urgent threat — in which case, we'll tell you to install an update sooner than later. (Check out our AskWoody.com posts on the days following Patch Tuesday.) Another exception: Security patches may also contain nonsecurity fixes. In some cases, you might want to install a security update sooner when it includes a feature fix you really need. Microsoft also sends out preview updates, typically on the third Tuesday of each month. They are completely optional, and we recommend skipping them. We will list them in the next Patch Watch column following their release because Microsoft typically doesn't label them as previews (bad dog!). Updates can be deferred on Window 10 Pro and above. If you're running Win10 Home, we recommend upgrading to Pro. Ensure that Windows 7's patch-update setting are set to download or check for updates, but don't automatically install them. It's your best defense against problematic patches. Other rules Never install hardware drivers -- unless you get them from the computer's manufacturer Never install an update to a newer version of .NET. Let your applications set the .NET versions they need If you are offered .NET 4.8, skip it. For business, I recommend being on 1903 at this time and deferring 1909 Version 2004 Sheet updated: 7/14/2020 >>>> Should be installed as of June 30, 2020 for business patchers Known issues page: https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/release-information/status-windows- Notes: 1) Test on your network, install as you see fit.

  • WINDOWS 10 UPDATES Past, Present & Future
WINDOWS 10 UPDATES Past, Present & Future Windows as a Service Prior to Windows 10, Microsoft released new versions of Windows every few years. This traditional deployment schedule imposed a training burden on users because the feature revisions were often significant. That schedule also meant waiting long periods without new features — a scenario that doesn’t work in today’s rapidly changing world, a world in which new security, management, and deployment capabilities are necessary to address challenges. Windows as a service will deliver smaller feature updates two times per year, around March and September, to help address these issues. DEFINITIONS •Feature updates will be released twice per year, around March and September. As the name suggests, these will add new features to Windows 10, delivered in bite-sized chunks compared to the previous practice of Windows releases every 3-5 years. •Quality updates are released monthly, delivering both security and non-security fixes. These are cumulative, so installing the latest quality update is sufficient to get all the available fixes for a specific Windows 10 feature update. •Insider Preview builds are made available during the development of the features that will be shipped in the next feature update, enabling organizations to validate new features as well as compatibility with existing apps and infrastructure, providing feedback to Microsoft on any issues encountered. Device Compatibility Device compatibility in Windows 10 is also very strong; new hardware is not needed for Windows 10 as any device capable of running Windows 7 or later can run Windows 10. In fact, the minimum hardware requirements to run Windows 10 are the same as those required for Windows 7.
