The MSADA/DAAD joint conference was very successful. The Maryland and Delaware associations provided multiple professional development opportunities for our members. We offered leadership training classes, workshops, and interactive events over the four day conference.

Our 1st Vice President, Derek Maki, did a great job of scheduling the guest speakers. We had national representation from the NIAAA, as Executive Director Bruce Whitehead, gave an interesting presentation about leadership. Dr. Gregory Dale, the noted professor of sports psychology from , did a wonderful job as our banquet speaker. Floyd Kerr, the athletic director at Morgan State University, gave a thorough description of the inner workings of the NCAA at our Sunday morning breakfast.

We had five workshops during the conference. The workshops were well attended by our members. I want to thank all of the speakers, presiders, and panelists for their contributions. The practical knowledge they shared with us is extremely valuable.

In This Issue I want to thank Matt O’Hare for his sensational performance as our Master of Ceremonies at the banquet. You would expect the State Athletic Director of the Year to bring a sense of polish and experience to the table. You would expect a list of accomplishments and successes. You would even expect a lengthy tenure as an athletic director in order to tell the story. As you might expect, this year’s winner meets all of the above criteria. David Anderson has done and seen it all. He holds a Bachelors of Science degree and a Masters of Arts degree both from Appalachian State.

Dave is an active MSADA and NIAAA member. He has been an LTP instructor for the NIAAA for over 10 years and is one of Maryland’s LTC State Coordinators. Having earned his CAA designation 14 years ago, Dave has been a national CAA test administrator for the past 10 years.

Dr. David Hoch at [email protected]. For only $16, ALL coaches in Maryland should be members!!! In addition, the NFHS Coaches Association also has a long, successful history. With dual membership through the MSCA, your coaches get great benefits:

• $1 million liability insurance • A subscription to Coaches’ Quarterly • The eligibility for national and state awards

The benefits, operation and philosophical mission of other coaching associations can’t compare with the NFHS Coaches Association. And, of course, in the last few years, the NFHS has developed their own highly successful, professional coaching education and certification program. Let’s do a quick break down:

• Four times a year, Coaches’ Quarterly is published and it provides excellent, practical, timely and well- written articles for professional development. These other coaching associations can’t match this benefit. • Due to the dual membership arrangement, the membership fee for our state coaches is $16. Considering the benefits that are connected to the membership, no other association can even come close to this low cost. • Other coaching associations offer “an opportunity” to purchase liability insurance for “an additional fee.” And, remember, liability insurance IS included in the $16 MSCA membership fee. Are you kidding? Everyone should see this as a major difference! Maryland State Athletic Directors Association 5 Corky Connolly Golf Outing 2010 Golf Hole Sponsors

URGENT: Wireless Microphone Changes

The wireless frequencies 698 and 806 MHz (known as the 700 MHz Band) have been reallocated for exclusive use by Public Safety agencies, (e.g. Local Police, Fire, Rescue, Homeland Security and Government Agencies) and licensed wireless service providers (e.g. AT&T, Verizon, Qualcomm, and many local and regional providers).

Issues For Wireless Users • Wireless system users must stop operating in the 700 MHz Band (698-806 MHz) no later than June 12, 2010. • Wireless system users must stop operating within 60 days of receiving notice that a Public Safety agency or licensed wireless service provider intends to begin using their licensed 700 MHz spectrum in that geographic area. This notice may come directly from the licensee or from the FCC. • Wireless system users must stop operating in the 700 MHz Band immediately upon notification if they are causing interference to a licensed Public Safety or commercial user. • The FCC has created a web page with information about the 700 MHz Order, accessible at www.fcc.gov/cgb/ wirelessmicrophones.

Do you have Questions? RCI Systems is here to help! We can determine if your microphones meet legal standards, and provide you with options to upgrade if required.
