Wyndham is currently home to 283,294 people and the population is expected to reach 400,000 plus or the size of Canberra by 2036. A diverse City, both geographically and demographically, almost half of Wyndham residents are born overseas from 162 different countries. Rich and diverse in Aboriginal history Wyndham has the largest Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander population in Greater Melbourne. This growth means that there are significant challenges our organisation must meet. That’s why we’re committed to leading the way in our sector and we’re doing this by being aspirational in our planning and inventive in our delivery. Our focus is on delivering a liveable city with a globally connected and opportunity rich economy. Our commercial approach and willingness to facilitate innovative funding models will help drive this. We’re delivering City-shaping projects like our partnership with the Western Melbourne Group to deliver the A-League soccer stadium precinct. We are taking a place-making approach ensuring our key activity centres are transformed into creative precincts. We are rejuvenating the Werribee City Centre, partnering with private consortia to deliver major developments and have transformed Wyndham Park into a recreation and events space of regional significance. Our commitment to making Wyndham a cleaner and greener place for future generations – we were one of the first councils in Victoria to install solar compacting garbage and recycling bins across the City. Our leadership and agility saw us well placed to respond to the COVID-19 pandemic at pace and deliver innovative solutions throughout the crisis and on the path to recovery. We delivered a range of services and programs via the dedicated Wyndham Together website, and our $5million WYNlocal package helped local businesses adapt while our buy local campaigns saw an uplift in residents shopping locally. keynote speaker The Hon.
