The Golden Hawks will be looking to improve on their past performances in which they lost two close contests, one to the University of Manitoba Bisons and one to the University of Waterloo Warriors. In the game with the Bisons the Golden Hawks moved into a 13-0 lead on touchdowns by Bob McGregor and John Skinner. However, they lost their momentum and Manitoba rallied for a 15-13 victory. In the game with the Warriors this past Saturday the Hawks came from behind an 8-0 defecit and tied the score at the half by virtue of a touchdown by Doug Strong and single points by John Kruspe and Paul Grey. WLU had shown signs of coming on real strong. They were overpowering the Warriors in the 2nd and 3rd quarters and moved into the last period holding a 10-8 lead. However, the Hawks stopped taking the play to the Warriors and a 4th quarter touchdown by the University of Waterloo proved to be the margin of victory. - more - . 2 Head Coach Dave Knight, though perplexed over two straight losses, feels his team is maturing to a peak for the league opener.

FROM WATERLOO LUTHERAN UNIVERSITY WATERLOO UNIVERSITY COLLEGE — WATERLOO LUTHERAN SEMINARY 75 UNIVERSITY AVENUE, WATERLOO, ONTARIO, CANADA TELEPHONE: AREA CODE 519, 744-8141 096-1968 Gerry McLoughlin September 10, 1968 For Immediate Release WLU Golden Hawks Host University of Manitoba In Season Opener The 1968 football season for Waterloo Lutheran University Golden Hawks opens Saturday, Sept. 14 with a non-conference game against the University of Manitoba Bisons. Game time is 2 p.m. at Seagram Stadium. Saturdays game will be televised nationally on the CBC network. This coverage is an indication of the growth and popularity of college football in Canada today. The Hawks, ranked No. 7 in a pre-season poll of the coaches, athletic directors and sportswriters, will attempt to get the 1968 campaign off the ground successfully against the Bisons in search of the league champion- ship which they previously held in 1966. On the following Saturday, Sept. 21, the Hawks will meet the University of Waterloo Warriors in another non-conference game in preparation for the league opener at Seagram Stadium Sept. 27 against the Carleton University Ravens. This season the Warriors along with the McMaster Mauraders are entered in the Ontario-Quebec Athletic Association, and as a result this "grudge" match with the Warriors will be relegated to being a non-conference game only. However, knowing the rivalry that exists between the two schools it may be difficult to convice the players that this is not a league game. - more - Page 2 ... Despite the No. 7 ranking head coach David Knight is very optimistic about his teams chances this season.
