Intercom – Sociedade Brasileira de Estudos Interdisciplinares da Comunicação 42º Congresso Brasileiro de Ciências da Comunicação – Belém - PA – 2 a 7/09/2019 Gladiadores do Terceiro Milênio na Imprensa: Historiografia do Jornalismo Especializado em MMA1 Allysson MARTINS2 Universidade Federal de Rondônia, Vilhena, RO RESUMO O MMA é um esporte de luta com poucas regras em que os atletas utilizam técnicas e recursos de diversas modalidades marciais. Ao situar o lugar do MMA no jornalismo esportivo, o artigo traça um paralelo historiográfico entre o desenvolvimento deste esporte e da sua produção jornalística, ao apontar marcos históricos para o esporte – como sua profissionalização e popularização no país – e para o jornalismo especializado nesta modalidade esportiva – com revistas e programas televisivos, além de revista digital, agência de notícias, sites jornalísticos, canais de Youtube e de TV. Embora a modalidade apareça na mídia brasileira desde os primórdios do Vale Tudo, as produções especializadas se intensificaram mais recentemente, no mesmo período em que o esporte se popularizou, isto é, dez anos após as Regras Unificadas do MMA em 2000. PALAVRAS-CHAVE: Jornalismo especializado; Jornalismo esportivo; Vale Tudo; MMA; Historiografia. INTRODUÇÃO O jornalismo esportivo compreende a produção jornalística dedicada ao noticiário esportivo, em cadernos e editorias, em espaços generalistas ou em veículos especializados. Essa especialização existe desde o final do século 18, com produções próprias do segmento no século seguinte com mais força na Europa, enquanto no Brasil se destaca no início do século 20. Embora não se restrinja a tratar de futebol, a partir da metade deste século, o jornalismo esportivo brasileiro aborda mais detidamente esta modalidade, com expressão, especialmente quando existem atletas vencedores, para automobilismo – Fórmula 1 –, basquete, tênis, surfe e vôlei, além de boxe, ginástica artística, judô e natação – sobretudo nos períodos dos Jogos Olímpicos de Verão. -
