Reflection: “The Church is an earthly heaven in which the super-celestial God dwells and walks about.” Germanus of Constantinople

Welcome/Silent Preparation

—Worship in Praise—

Call to Worship -- the Book of Revelation

Minister: Fear not, I am the first and the last, and the living one. I died, and behold I am alive forevermore, and I have the keys of Death and Hades.

People: Worthy are you, our Lord and God, to receive glory and honor and power, for you created all things, and by your will they existed and were created.

Doxology©Public Domain Praise God from whom all blessings flow Praise Him all creatures here below Praise Him above ye heavenly host Praise Father Son and Holy Ghost Amen

ALL: To him who sits on the throne and to the Lamb be blessing and honor and glory and might forever and ever!

Hymn of Adoration Crown Him with Many Crowns Crown Him with many crowns, The Lamb upon His throne. Hark! How the heav’nly anthem drowns all music but its own. Awake, my soul and sing Of Him who died for thee, And hail Him as thy matchless King through all .

Crown Him the Lord of love, Behold His hands and side, Rich wounds, yet visible above, in beauty glorified. No in the sky can fully bear that sight, But downward bends His wond'ring eye at mysteries so bright. Crown Him the Lord of life, Who triumphed o'er the grave, Who rose victorious to the strife for those He came to save. His glories now we sing, Who died, and rose on high, Who died eternal life to bring, And lives that death may die.

Crown Him the Lord of heav'n, One with the Father known, One with the Spirit through Him giv'n from yonder glorious throne, To Thee be endless praise, for Thou for us hast died; Be Thou, O Lord, through endless days Adored and magnified.

Crown Him the Lord of years, the Potentate of time, Creator of the rolling spheres, Ineffably sublime. All hail, Redeemer, hail! For Thou has died for me; Thy praise shall never never fail Throughout eternity.

Prayer of Adoration

—Worship in Confession and Pardon—

Call to Confession Mark 8 If anyone would come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross and follow me. For whoever would save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for my sake and the gospel's will save it. For what does it profit a man to gain the whole world and forfeit his soul? For what can a man give in return for his soul? For whoever is ashamed of me and of my words in this adulterous and sinful generation, of him will the Son of Man also be ashamed when he comes in the glory of his Father with the holy angels.

Hymn of Lament Jesus I My Cross Have Taken Jesus, I my cross have taken Perish every fond ambition All to leave and follow Thee All I’ve sought or hoped or known Destitute, despised, forsaken Yet how rich is my condition! Thou from hence my all shall be God and heaven are still my own Think what Father’s smiles are thine Go, then, earthly fame and treasure Think that Jesus died to win thee Come disaster, scorn and pain Child of heaven, canst thou repine In Thy service, pain is pleasure With Thy favor, loss is gain Haste thee on from grace to glory I have called Thee Abba Father Armed by faith, and winged by prayer I have stayed my heart on Thee Heav’n’s eternal days before thee Storms may howl, and clouds may gather God’s own hand shall guide us there All must work for good to me Soon shall close thy earthly mission Soon shall pass thy pilgrim days Soul, then know thy full salvation Hope shall change to glad fruition Rise o’er sin and fear and care Faith to sight, and prayer to praise Joy to find in every station Something still to do or bear Think what Spirit dwells within thee

Prayer of Confession (corporate) Almighty God, In difficult times, we are reminded of our dependence on You. Though we are weak, You are strong. Though we are uncertain, You are unchanging. In our times of chaos and confusion, You calm the storms of our lives. Oh God, we trust in You alone. Hear now our silent confessions.

Silent Confession

Praise of Absolution (corporate)

Father Almighty May we lift our heads to see You in control. Let our souls be refreshed by Your Spirit. Remind us daily that “good” is not our past; It is our future. Oh God, we hope in You alone. Enable us, by your Holy Spirit, To be Your light that shines in the darkness. As in ages past, empower the Church To be the love of Christ to the world. Set our hearts aflame for Your mission. Oh God, we live for You alone, through Christ our Lord, amen. Words of Absolution - (from Revelation 1) To him who loves us and has freed us from our sins by his blood and made us a kingdom, priests to his God and Father, to him be glory and dominion forever and ever. Amen.

Hymn of Response

His Love Can Never Fail

I do not ask to see the way My feet will have to tread; But only that my soul may feed Upon the living Bread. ’Tis better far that I should walk By faith close to His side; I may not know the way I go, But oh, I know my Guide.

Refrain His love can never fail, His love can never fail, My soul is satisfied to know His love can never fail. My soul is satisfied to know His love can never fail.

And if my feet would go astray, They cannot, for I know That Jesus guides my falt’ring steps, As joyfully I go. And tho’ I may not see His face, My faith is strong and clear, That in each hour of sore distress My Savior will be near.

Refrain

I will not fear, tho’ darkness come Abroad o’er all the land, If I may only feel the touch Of His own loving hand. And tho’ I tremble when I think How weak I am, and frail, My soul is satisfied to know His love can never fail.

Refrain x2

Confession of Faith...The Heidelberg Catechism

Ruling Elder Luke Lilevjen

12. Since, according to God's righteous we deserve temporal and eternal punishment, how can we escape this punishment and be again received into favour?

A. God demands that his justice be satisfied. Therefore we must make full payment, either by ourselves or through another.

13. Can we by ourselves make this payment?

A. Certainly not. On the contrary, we daily increase our debt.

14. Can any mere creature pay for us?

A. No. In the first place, God will not punish another creature for the sin which man has committed. Furthermore, no mere creature can sustain the burden of God's eternal wrath against sin and deliver others from it.

The Preaching of God’s Word: John The Real Jesus Revealed Rev. Davis W. Morgan —Worship in Gratitude— Celebration of the Lord’s Supper Fencing the Table Words of Institution

Meditating on God’s Grace in Jesus: “Too many think lightly of sin, and therefore think lightly of the Savior. He who has stood before his God, convicted and condemned, with the rope about his neck, is the man to weep for joy when he is pardoned, to hate the evil which has been forgiven him, and to live to the honor of the Redeemer by whose blood he has been cleansed.” Charles Spurgeon

“Confidence in the sovereignty of God in all that affects us is crucial to our trusting Him. If there is a single event in all of the universe that can occur outside of God’s sovereign control then we cannot trust Him. His love may be infinite, but if His power is limited and His purpose can be thwarted, we cannot trust Him.” Jerry Bridges

“Christ Himself with all His glory will be really and continually with us. We shall no longer have to be satisfied with the mere descriptions of Him that we have in the gospel. We shall see Him face to face (1 Corinthians 13:12) and as He is (1 John 3:2). We shall see Him with our bodily eyes, for Job says: “In my flesh shall I see God (my Redeemer), whom I shall see for myself, and my eyes shall behold” (Job 19:25-27). Our bodily senses will be restored and glorified in a way we cannot now understand, in order that we may be able to look at Christ and His glory forever and ever. We shall see not only His human nature but His divinity also in its infinite wisdom, love and power. That glory will be a thousand times more than anything we can imagine. John Owen

“People will always reflect something, whether it be God's character or some feature of the world. If people are committed to God, they will become like him; if they are committed to something other than God, they will become like that thing, always spiritually inanimate and empty like the lifeless and vain aspect of creation to which they have committed themselves.” G.K. Beale

Tithes and Offerings

Hymn of Gratitude All I Have Is Christ I once was lost in darkest night Yet thought I knew the way The sin that promised joy and life Had led me to the grave I had no hope that You would own A rebel to Your will And if You had not loved me first I would refuse You still

But as I ran my hell-bound race Indifferent to the cost You looked upon my helpless state And led me to the cross And I beheld God’s love displayed You suffered in my place You bore the wrath reserved for me Now all I know is grace

CHORUS: Hallelujah! All I have is Christ Hallelujah! Jesus is my life

Hallelujah! All I have is Christ Hallelujah! Jesus is my life

Now, Lord, I would be Yours alone And live so all might see The strength to follow Your commands Could never come from me Oh Father, use my ransomed life In any way You choose And let my song forever be My only boast is You

CHORUS: Hallelujah! All I have is Christ Hallelujah! Jesus is my life

Hallelujah! All I have is Christ Hallelujah! Jesus is my life

Hallelujah! All I have is Christ Hallelujah! Jesus is my life

Benediction
