BLUE JACKETS NOTES A FAST START The Jackets have kicked off the season with 13 wins and 15 games of picking up points in their first 23 contests to sit in second place in the Metropolitan Division at 13-7-2 (28 points). The 28 points in the first 23 games is the fourth-best start in club history, trailing the 32 points recorded to start the 2016-17 campaign (14-6-4), 31 points posted in 2017-18 (15-8-1) and 29 points in 2010-11 (14-8-1). The 13 victories are the fourth-most wins in the opening 23 contests, trailing the 15 wins in 2017-18 and 14 wins in 2010-11 and 2016-17.

ROAD WARRIORS The Jackets fell in regulation on the road for just the fourth time in their most recent road contest 4-2 on Saturday in Pittsburgh, moving the club to 7-4-1 away from Nationwide Arena this season (3-2-1 in the last six). The seven victories in the first 12 road games are tied for the second-most in franchise history (2016-17 and 2017-18), trailing the eight wins posted to begin the 2010-11 campaign. The 15 points are tied for third-most (2017-18), trailing the 17 points recorded in 2016-17 (7-2-3) and the 16 points in 2010-11 (8-4-0).

GET SHORTY Columbus ranks third-T in the NHL with four shorthanded goals this season. All four shorthanded markers have come in November (second-T in NHL with Arizona; trails only Calgary's five), including three in the last seven outings. The team has found success along the entire penalty kill of late, killing off 15-of-17 opponent power plays (88.2 pct.) over the last seven games, including all three Toronto power plays and the lone Pittsburgh power play on Saturday. The club has killed off 31-of-36 attempts in November (86.1 pct.; sixth in NHL).

STREAKING NOVEMBER The Blue Jackets have collected points in eight of the last ten games (6-2-2) and their last four-straight home outings (3-0-1). They have outscored opponents 33-24 since Nov. 4 at Anaheim. The team is 7-3-2 (16 points) in their first 12 November games, ranking seventh-T among NHL teams in victories and sixth-T in points in the month. The club has won at least eight games in each of the past three Novembers, including a franchise-high nine victories and 21 points in November 2016 (9-2-3). They went 8-5-0 in November 2015 and 8-4-1 last November.

AMONG THE LEAGUE’S BEST Columbus has been among the best teams in the NHL in picking up wins over the past few seasons. Dating back to the 2016-17 campaign, the Jackets are fourth-T in the league in wins (108; Minnesota), trailing only Washington (117) along with Tampa Bay (113) and Nashville (111).

CAM THE MAN Cam Atkinson continued his torrid stretch of play, notching a goal on Saturday night to stretch his career-best goal streak to seven games (9-4-13). It’s tied for the longest goal streak in franchise history (Geoff Sanderson, Nov. 5-17, 2002). Atkinson had his multi-point game streak snapped on Friday with his four-game streak (Nov. 12-19; 6-4-10) tied for the second longest streak in CBJ history (Panarin five-straight in 2017-18). Dating back to Jan. 25, 2018 when he returned from a foot injury, he ranks fourth in the NHL in goals (33 in 55 games played).

BOB’S YOUR UNCLE Sergei Bobrovsky has been on his game, allowing a single goal in six of his nine games played since Oct. 30 vs. Detroit, posting a 6-3- 0 record with a 1.72 goals-against average and .946 save percentage. He has won five of his last six games (1.51 GAA, .950 SV%) and ranks fourth-T in the NHL in wins in November and third in GAA and SV% (minimum five games played) with a 6-2-0 record, 1.76 GAA and .945 SV%.

TORTS TWO AWAY Blue Jackets’ head coach John Tortorella sits two games shy of becoming the 18th coach in NHL history to coach 1,200 games in his career. The Boston native, who has won two Jack Adams Awards as the league’s Coach of the Year and won the Stanley Cup in 2004 with Tampa Bay, is tied for first all-time among U.S. born coaches in NHL wins (Peter Laviolette), posting a 588-470-140 record over 18 seasons. He is the Jackets’ all-time winningest coach at 141-95-25.

ON THE FARM The AHL’s Cleveland Monsters currently sit third in the North Division with a 10-7-2-0 record after defeating Toronto 2-1 in overtime on Sunday. Zac Dalpe is third-T in goals in the AHL with 12-9-21 while Nathan Gerbe (3-12-15) and Eric Robinson (8-6-14) also lead the Monsters in scoring. Emil Bemstrom (4th round in 2017) is first in the SHL in goals (11-4-15 in 20 games for Djurgarden). Veini Vehvilainen (6th round in 2018) has posted a 12-3-2 record, 1.34 GAA, .941 SV% and four shutouts in 17 games for Karpat (Liiga).
