The Leeds quintet carries on a long UK tradition of vivid and vibrant folk kicked off by Nick Drake and most recently revived by Mum- ford & Sons. However, The Dunwells wave their own flag. Blind Sighted Faith is a gorgeously organic offering rife with eloquent lyrics and elegant instrumentation. Singer Joe Dunwell tells stories with panache and passion directly fortified by the diverse electric and acoustic sounds emanating from the band. Harmoniously aunting and musically divine, The Dunwells have fashioned a modern gem with Blind Sighted Faith. In this exclusive interview with ARTISTdirect.com editor and Dolor author Rick Florino, Joe Dunwell talks Blind Sighted Faith and so much more... AD: What’s the story behind “Oh Lord”? JOE: I wrote the song on a drunken a night. I was having a glass of wine, and I was feeling a little bitter [Laughs]. It’s not about anybody in particular. It’s one of those stories that everybody goes through. It’s a strong song. I like that one. I knew it’d get recorded at some point. I didn’t know if it would make this album or the next though. I would be happy if it stayed in the set for the rest of our career. It’s a good conclusion to the record. AD: Where did “I Could Be a King” come from? JOE: We went down to London one time, and we met up with this guy who was in the music industry. He said, “Listen guys, I like your stuff, but you need to do something a bit more upbeat”. I went home and wrote another slow song, which is “I Could Be a King”. [Laughs] I didn’t even listen to him. Jonny [Lamb] started rocking his drums as fast as he could, and I played along. That upbeat tempo stuck, and the words seemed to fit. AD: Is it important for you to tell stories with the songs? JOE: I feel the songs do tell stories, but I don’t go out there to portray a message. I just say the words and sing them how I’d want to hear them with passion. AD: Where else do you draw inspiration? JOE: I watch a lot of movies. I exercise, and I get a lot of fresh air. I drink a little bit of red wine too. That’s where I get a bit of inspiration from. I listen to a lot of music and draw inspiration from other artists. AD: What are some of your favorite movies? JOE: My favorite movie would probably be Tim Burton’s Big Fish. It’s weird. I like the story of how he’s a big fish in a small pond, and then he goes out and explores this giant world. AD: If you were to compare your album to a movie or a combination of movies, what would you compare it to? JOE: It’s definitely not a rom com [Laughs]. Maybe Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels or Pulp Fiction. There’s lots of stuff going on throughout the films. The collection of songs we have isn’t structured as one formula. AD: Where did the album title come from? JOE: We were looking at the accounts and where we were as a band. We weren’t in a good situation. We had no money to go into the next gig. Instead of looking for money, I sat down with my guitar and wrote this song “Blind Sighted Faith”. I had this sense of euphoria. I said to the guys, “Put your heads down. It’s blind sighted faith. We have to keep going”.     FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE THE DUNWELLS – NO DEPRESSION’S “BREAKOUT BAND” AT THE 2011 FOLK ALLIANCE – TO RELEASE DEBUT ALBUM, BLIND SIGHTED FAITH, ON 2/14/12 LOS ANGELES, CA (Wednesday, November 9, 2011) -- The Dunwells, two brothers, two cousins, and a best friend, will debut their unique trademark sound that blends Celtic and American folk, rock, blues, pop and soul, on February 14, 2012 with the North American release of Blind Sighted Faith (Playing In Traffic Records/SONY/RED). The 11-track collection was produced by nine-time-Grammy-winner John Porter (The Smiths, Elvis Costello, Ryan Adams), and recorded during the summer of 2011 at Willie Nelson’s Pedernales Studio in Austin, TX, and Analogue Studios in West Yorkshire, England. Blind Sighted Faith introduces The Dunwells’ organic blend of acoustic and electric roots music that is at once timeless, rambunctious and magical, with glorious five-part harmonies. “I really love the blend of The Dunwells’ voices,” said producer John Porter. “Joe and David Dunwell, along with the entire band, know their vocal capabilities and really delivered. Their sound energized me and propelled the project throughout the entire recording process. It was a pleasure watching them create.” “In England, we’re small fish in a small pond,” Joseph Dunwell explained. “Now, coming to the U.S., we’re small fish in a massive pond.
