International Summer Programs 2020 There are hundreds of amazing and valuable programs available for secondary students to participate in during the summer break. Throughout Europe, Canada, USA and Australia students can get involved in subject-specific programs, programs offering combinations of fun, travel, cultural learning, languages, adventure, sport or academic preparation. A quick Google search using keywords such as summer camps Europe will yield a host of opportunities. Below is a brief list of some programs that might be of value to older Secondary students. Universities sponsor some of these; others use university facilities to run their programs. Some offer financial support and some are free. This is by no means a comprehensive list, so if you are considering such a program for your summer break, please research the options thoroughly. Students take college level courses for academic credit, which may be applied to a future degree. Residential and non-residential options are available. Participants take credit-bearing courses with current college students. Courses are available in over 36 subjects. Students can explore the archeological history of New York City, visit major New York sports facilities and learn the business of sports management, begin to master the Chinese language, practice the art of hyper-local news reporting, or delve into the hospitality industry while going behind-the-scenes at Manhattan hotels and restaurants. Otis College of Art and Design: Summer of Art www.otis.edu/soa This intensive, four-week, pre-college program is for those 15 and older who wish to study at one of the top art and design colleges in the country. Small classes ensure personalized, in-depth learning. Rigorous course work includes both hands-on studio classes in a chosen area of concentration and Foundation Studio classes. Many of the instructors are award-winning, practicing designers and artists who teach in Otis’ BFA program. Contact with instructors provides a glimpse into the working lives of professional artists and designers, and introduces students to career choices. Princeton University Summer Journalism Program (Princeton, New Jersey) www.princeton.edu/sjp/ Classes at the program are taught by reporters and editors from The New York Times, The Washington Post, The New Republic, The New Yorker, CNN and ABC News, among other media outlets.
