This year has made it abundantly clear that we were thrown off our game and learning the curves again. But under these very difficult circumstances, we commend the exemplary leadership of our Secretary, Justice Francisco Acosta, for rallying us to adopt to the new normal while still be able to perform our solemn oath to provide service to the public, especially our clientele. Our collective accomplishments speak for themselves - we were able to conduct four virtual Ugnayan among our Filipino communities, assist 586 repatriated overseas Filipinos (not OFWs) and provide meals and accommodation, automate our services and payment scheme and still find the time to successfully recertify our ISO 9001:2015 certification! Indeed, we were able to accomplished a lot despite the ongoing pandemic. Here's hoping that 2021 will be a year of hope and an end to this pandemic. Stay safe and healthy dear readers! MESSAGE FROM THE CFO SECRETARY THEFILIPINO TIES For Filipinos overseas, reaching out to them were also facilitated virtually, as this year’s Ugnayan Series was held via online platforms for Filipino communities living and working in Japan, South Korea, Hawaii, and Los Angeles. The Youth Leaders in the Diaspora (YouLeaD) program also evolved from a two-week on-site cultural immersion program for Filipino youth overseas into a virtual discussion with topics ranging from mental health and emotional adjustment to volunteerism and social responsibility. The series of fora for the Month of Overseas Filipinos, leading to the National Forum on Migration this December, was also organized and celebrated virtually. The CFO also provided logistical assistance to returning migrants and repatriated Exchange Visitor Program (EVP) participants affected by the pandemic. The Lingkod sa Kapwa Pilipino (LINKAPIL), on the other hand, continues to receive overseas donations and facilitate disbursements for relief to affected communities of the typhoon, as well as for other projects in education, livelihood, and small-scale infrastructure. The recognition of overseas Filipinos is equally important in these trying times to give due credit for their valiant efforts and the role of the media in promoting and upholding the rights and welfare of Filipinos overseas.
