US-China Foreign Language, July 2017, Vol. 15, No. 7, 465-478 doi:10.17265/1539-8080/2017.07.007 D DAVID PUBLISHING Social Media as a Contributing Stressor to Intimate Partner Violence and Femicide Dr. Amanda Maitland EL Amri JNFLS International Centre, Jinan, Shandong Province, China This article focuses on a preliminary study which has examined ways in which social media may help cause stalker murder by individuals with personality disorders and a strong sense of sexual propriety. The study suggests that a public display on social media by the intended victim may trigger interpersonal violence. The study explores case studies of intimate partner murders using news media sources and documentaries. In all of the case studies, social media interaction and postings occurred shortly before murder. It is argued that the case studies demonstrate a preponderance of correlations between the social media postings, stalking behaviours, personality disorders, and the murder of an intimate partner. Moreover, the case studies provide a profile for Facebook/social media murder. The complex relationship between severe violence, stalking, borderline personality, and intimate partner violence is shown in this study. In addition to this, the struggle clients have in dealing with the: public, ambiguous, and unrelenting nature of social media postings has been explored. Finally, the sense of sexual propriety and entitlement found in the attitudes of the murderer and evident in all the case studies will be discussed. It is likely that therapists, psychologists, nurses, criminologists, and social workers will find this study of interest. a lasting impact 2008 ANNUAL REPORT 25 YEARS OF JUSTICE AND EQUALITY From its start in 1983, the Asian Pacific American Legal Center (APALC) has set the pace for social justice for Asian Pacific Americans. Twenty-five years later, APALC continues to strive for justice on behalf of Asian Pacific Americans and for all underrepresented and marginalized individuals and communities. As you read on, you will witness for yourself APALC’s impact. We encounter individuals at moments of crisis and provide in-language help with legal issues that profoundly influence their lives. We litigate on behalf of individuals to effect broad, sweeping change in laws, institutions, and practices. We develop multicultural-savvy leaders in the health sector and among today’s youth and parents. We do original research on Asian Pacific American demographics and advocate for policies that better serve our communities on local, state, and national levels. We work to protect and enhance the well-being of immigrants in our communities. We help over 15,000 individuals each year. We meet the relevant, ongoing needs of our community in direct and systemic ways for a personal and lasting impact in families and communities. This year, we have recognized the immense challenges facing our community, and decisively and from the swiftly acted to be a force for positive change. For example, we launched an elder law project, executive focusing on the needs of the rapidly growing older population of Asian Pacific Americans. We also initiated a foreclosure and housing project to help Asian Pacific Americans facing foreclosures during director this economic crisis.
