Duang Prateep Foundation Monthly Newsletter for December 2017 Duang Prateep Foundation Monthly Newsletter for December 2017 Azamara Journey On December 13, seven crew members of the Royal Caribbean International Family, sailing under the Azamara Journey flag and led by Ms. Katie Watts, cruised into the Duang Prateep Foundation and Kindergarten on a mission of goodwill. They were docked at the nearby Klong Toey Port and wanted to learn more about life for the urban poor and to provide some support. The crew undertakes similar activities for charities across the globe, and during their visit with us they participated in our innovative English lessons for the kindy-kids as well as serving lunch to all the youngsters. They also toured a part of Klong Toey slum, where the children live. At the end of the day, we bid the Azamara Journeyers calm seas and fair skies for the rest of their journey – and hope to welcome them back when they next drop anchor in port. An Apple a Day With two dance performances, our kindergarten children recently welcomed prominent event-organizer Sombat Tirasaroj (Tue), famous actor and TV personality Opal Panisara and their team. The celebrities were on a mission of health- promotion and had brought premium-grade apples (on behalf of Wa Theater Premium Fruits Company) to distribute to the children. Although Thailand is blessed with many excellent tropical fruits, such high-grade cool climate fruit was a rare treat for the youngsters. The children were also thrilled to be served lunch by the well-known visitors. Blanket Support Miss Universe Thailand 2017, Maria Poonlertlarp, a long-time friend of the DPF, has just launched an exciting new way to support educational opportunity and a drug- free environment for the children of the slums – Tulip Blankets, which have been personally designed by Maria herself. With every sale of a blanket, she will donate 500 Baht to the DPF to help the children. Tulip Blankets are exclusively available online at www.tulip.co.th. So, check them out now – they will keep you warm and snug through this Cool Season. The offer runs from now till February 2018. Christmas Season at NLPK and NLPC 2017 The children and youths at the New Life Projects in Chumporn and Kanchanaburi got into the festive spirit recently, enjoying Christmas parties and gifts that were sponsored by Khun Kay Spencer and NARTA International. Thank you very much for your kindness. Khru Prateep also joined the youngsters for the happy occasions. Vale Khun ‘Ae’ All committee members, staff members and children of the Duang Prateep Foundation wish to express our deep sadness with the passing of Khun Rotjana (Ae) Praesrithong on Christmas Eve 2017. After many years of helping the foundation, Ae became the leader and Mother-figure of the Baan Tharn Namchai orphanage following the 2004 Indian Ocean tsunami, and later became the president of the Baan Tharn Namchai Foundation. She devoted almost her entire life to helping children in need, and will be desperately missed by all those whose lives she touched with her care. Rest in Peace Khun ‘Ae’. You will forever remain in our hearts. ======================================================================= Duang Prateep Foundation, 34 Lock 6, Art Narong Road, Klong Toey, Bangkok 10110 Thailand Tel: (+66)2-671-4045~8 Fax: (+66)2-249-5254 Email:[email protected] .

For me to do a good job as president, I rely on the expertise, advice, and suggestions from the Board of Directors and YOU, the alumni, the heart of this organization. I welcome your perspectives and look forward to building new relationships. Our beloved school celebrated its 65th birthday in May at the Renaissance Bangkok Ratchaprasong Hotel, graduated its senior class, and awarded two scholarships that the ISB Foundation sponsors to worthy ISB students. The passing of the King of Thailand saddened each of us as we reflected on our time in Thailand, our experiences, and the love we felt and continue to feel for the people of Thailand, our King, our Queen, and their family. Even if we were only in Thailand for a year, we feel a deep connection to its culture and a loyalty to our school, ISB.
