  • 2000 TOYOTA CELICA GT the Seventh-Generation Celica Comes with a New Platform, New Engines, a New, Six-Speed Manual Gearbox
2000 TOYOTA CELICA GT The seventh-generation Celica comes with a new platform, new engines, a new, six-speed manual gearbox for the GT-S version, and more. The Celica is shorter and narrower than before, but has a longer wheelbase. Overall height is unchanged. Interior and trunk No one will be surprised by the fact that getting in and out of the Celica requires a degree of flexibility. The bucket seats are very comfortable and have good side support. Some drivers may find that foot room is tight but the driving position is otherwise excellent. The seat belts are not height adjustable. The rear seat is barely useable, even by very small people. The 50/50 split seatback folds to provide more room for cargo. The front seatbacks do not return to their original position and have to be readjusted each time they are folded forward. Liftover to the roomy trunk is high, and the rear hatch does not open high enough to safely clear the head of tall individual. Safety and convenience Though interior finish is excellent, road- and engine-noise suppression leaves much to be desired. The new Celica is quieter than before, but even if it is sports car, it should filter out more of this type of noise. On the other hand, the click of the turn signals is barely audible, and should be louder. Instruments and controls are well laid-out but the cup holder behind the gearshift lever can be a nuisance, depending on the size of the beverage container. There are lots of roomy storage spaces, and both the climate control and sound systems work very well.

As Toyota’s purest expression of performance, Supra has redefined the sports car time and time again. And, as we prepare to launch the next chapter of Supra, let’s revisit the past to see how the marque evolved from grand tourer to pure driver’s car. 3.0 Premium shown in Renaissance Red 2.0. Using the Celica Liftback as a starting point, Toyota engineers lengthened the chassis, dropped in an advanced inline 6-cylinder engine and incorporated the latest in comfort and technology to create a true grand tourer. Still an upgraded version of the era’s Celica, the A60 was offered in two flavors: the luxurious “L-type” and the performance- minded “P-type.” With its larger wheels and tires, bulging fiberglass flares and optional aero, the P-type would lay the groundwork for Supra’s dedication to pure performance.

Toyota's Calty Design Research Celebrates Its 40th Year and a Rich Sports Car Design Heritage January 13, 2014 From Virtual to Reality? Toyota FT-1 Concept Sets the Pace for Future Design Fabulous Toyota FT-1 Concept Is Ready to Drive January 14 DETROIT, Michigan (Jan. 13, 2014) – The first design center established in North America by a Japanese automaker, Toyota’s Calty Design Research began as a bold experiment on October 2, 1973 in El Segundo, California. Ideally situated in California to best absorb the influence of the state’s burgeoning car culture, the first Calty studio was viewed as a unique exploratory branch of Toyota’s global vehicle design organization. At the time, no one in the Toyota organization could imagine that 40 years later, the Calty facility would play a key role in some of Toyota’s most significant designs and be pivotal in the company’s movement toward regional autonomy for North American product development. The Calty name is a mash-up of the words California and Toyota. The initial mission was to serve as a laboratory for new design ideas, providing an open field for form, shape, and materials exploration. Calty offered Toyota’s designers a place to study, understand and incorporate the trends, tastes, and product requirements for vehicles destined for the important North American market. Compared to the resources of rival automaker studios, the first Calty effort was very much a “mom and pop” operation. “El Segundo wasn’t a campus. It was one portion of a modest building in an industrial area.

  • Cinema's Most Recognizable Supra
37: Fast & Famous: Cinema’s Most Recognizable Supra July 07, 2021 Still going strong (and into space!), the “Fast” film franchise is one the highest-grossing the movie industry has ever seen and shows no signs of slowing down. Sure, superstar names like Vin Diesel and Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson take top billing, but the franchise is built on fast cars – none more famous and sought-after worldwide than Paul Walker’s orange Gladiator Supra featured prominently in “The Fast and the Furious” (2001). We’re joined by Craig Lieberman, original owner of the film’s primary, hero vehicle, a 1994 Toyota Supra MK IV. We go behind the scenes and dig into what it was like to lend his expert knowledge and eye-popping cars to such a high-profile production. How did the arrangement come to be? Which actors could really drive? How real were the most dynamic driving scenes? Craig shares his perspective as only someone in the driver’s seat possibly could. After his Supra was “discovered” by movie producers and brought into the fold for filming, Craig provided consultation on all things auto for the first two “Fast” films. His deep knowledge of tuner culture and Japanese performance vehicles were key in the film’s initial (and ongoing) impact on the scene – after having ignited an explosion in the modifications industry and indoctrinating a new generation of auto enthusiasts around the world. We discover what happened to the Supra after filming and hear about Craig’s new and influential place in the scene, boasting over 174k insatiably curious YouTube subscribers and over 129k Instagram followers that pepper him with questions on a daily basis.

  • IX. TOYOTA CELICA CONVERSION and EMISSIONS ANALYSIS The
IX. TOYOTA CELICA CONVERSION AND EMISSIONS ANALYSIS The 1990 Toyota Celica was factory equipped with a close-coupled catalytic converter plus a relatively small underbody catalyst. There is no air injection with the original catalyst configuration. This vehicle has two oxygen sensors, one located immediately upstream and the other immediately downstream of the stock (original) close-coupled catalyst. Photographs ofthe original Toyota Celica catalysts are shown in Figure 15. An electrically-heated catalyst was mounted just upstream of the original underbody catalyst as shown in Figure 16. A blank "spool" replaces the electrically-heated catalyst for original configuration tests. The Celica provided an opportunity to study the emission control potential of an electrically heated catalyst located downstream ofa close-coupled catalyst. In this downstream location, the electrically-heated catalyst would be expected to operate at lower overall temperatures than if located first in the exhaust stream, close to the engine. Therefore, long-term durability for the heated catalyst may be enhanced in this cooler location. Take-apart flanges were fitted to the exhaust pipe and electrically-heated catalyst so that emission tests could be performed easily with or without the preheated catalyst. An on vehicle air injection pump was mounted behind the front bumper, along with the solenoid operated air control valve. The original Toyota battery was replaced with the strongest battery available that would fit into the underhood location. For emission tests at SwRI, the catalyst power controller was located behind the right-front seat, as shown previously (Figure 7). A total of 27 FTP emission tests were performed on the Toyota Celica while at SwRI.

  • The Toyota Celica and Supra in Touring Car Racing
The Toyota Celica and Supra in Touring Car Racing Work done by Francisco Cunha – Reporter and Motor Racing Fan http://www.facebook.com/xgp2012 - This article intends to tell the story of both the Toyota Celica and Supra models in Touring Car racing, as proposed by me to site host Frank De Jong. The brunt of the information is based on the investigation by author Brian Long compiled in the book: “Celica & Supra: The book of Toyota Sports Coupés” (ISBN – 978-1904788133). As I do not intend to inflict copyright, most of the data here is as much summed up. I recommend the book to all petrol-heads, Toyota fans or not, by its insightful information and much pleasant writing, only at the reach of great motoring authors. - The data on the Final part, of the Supra in the ETCC, is taken from a very clarifying discussion on the Ten Tenths Motorsport forum. My article is not and nor it pretends to be an intensive research on the subject as I have not much reliable sources in my hands, so I just put up what I´ve found out. A lot of the info such as results comes from De Jong´s own site. - Although not in production for some time, the Toyota Celica and Supra did wonders for the Japanese manufacturer sporting image, both in road and racing. Even if more associated nowadays to Rally (Celica) and GT Racing (Supra), both cars also made some mark in the Touring car scene. Here is my humble review of it all.
