The Last Black Man in San Francisco
THE LAST BLACK MAN IN SAN FRANCISCO 4 .11. 18 Screenplay by Story by Joe Talbot & Rob Richert Joe Talbot & Jimmie Fails 1 EXT. HP SHIPYARDS / HP BUS STOP - SUNRISE An eight-year-old African-American girl with knockers in her hair stands on a desolate sidewalk behind yellow caution tape. She licks a candy and gazes upwards – spellbound. A man in a hazmat suit glides along the pavement, Darth Vader breaths heaving from his space-mask. He loads pieces of trash and plants into hazardous waste bags. In the distance, more men in hazmats crawl along a decaying dock, collecting various items. The little girl breaks her gaze and begins down the street, running her hand along the caution tape. A voice appears. PREACHER (O.S.) Why they got suits on and we don't? Something is going on right in front of our face. But you stuck on your i-phone, j-phone 12, whatever. Blow up in your hand! You cant Google whats goin’ on right now. They lucky I’m a man of god now. Or I’d suicide bomb this mother-. Tracking with her, we land on a black man in his Sunday best. He stands on a box, shouting at nobody in particular. PREACHER Are ya’ll paying attention? Why do they have suits on and we don’t?... Why?!?! Listen to me man! An old lady drives by and honks supportively at the Preacher. He waves without breaking focus. PREACHER They here to clean this water? Man, this water been funky as the devils mouth for fifty years and now they wanna clean it up?!?!… Not for you and me, no sir! They got plans for us. -

Seattle a Digital Community Still in Transition Jessica Durkin, Tom Glaisyer, and Kara Hadge, Media Policy Initiative June 2010, Release 2.0
New America Foundation An Information Community Case Study: Seattle A digital community still in transition Jessica Durkin, Tom Glaisyer, and Kara Hadge, Media Policy Initiative June 2010, Release 2.0 Seattle, Washington, could be considered a city singularly suited to develop a healthy democracy in the digital age. The city government, citizens and business have created a productive environment for the next generation of information-sharing and community engagement. Years of economic growth and relative prosperity have fostered new, superior practices in news and information. Yet, losing a major print newspaper, as Seattle did when The Seattle Post-Intelligencer closed, adversely affects a community, by leaving it with one less place to provide public service journalism, stories about people and general community updates. In parallel, Seattle has been at the center of an explosion of alternative news outlets, especially online, which has created a critical mass of information portals for geographic and social communities. As the Knight Report, Informing Communities: Sustaining Democracy in a Digital Age, highlights, it is important to understand that there are three important elements to be considered as we analyze media and democracy in the 21st century: • availability of relevant and credible information to all Americans and their communities; • capacity of individuals to engage with information; and • individual engagement with information and the public life of the community. However, despite the relative vibrancy of the media scene, and even with all its demographic and other advantages, it is unclear how much of this innovation is sustainable. The local web is littered with websites that are no longer updated, and few of the startups boast anything like the journalistic firepower or profitability of the papers of the past. -
Makin' Tracks: Lady Antebellum Recaptures a Vintage Sound with 'What If I Never Get Over You'
(7.10.19) - https://www.billboard.com/articles/columns/country/8519444/lady-antebellum-what-if-i- never-get-over-you-makin-tracks Makin' Tracks: Lady Antebellum Recaptures a Vintage Sound with 'What If I Never Get Over You' When Lady Antebellum signed a new recording deal with Big Machine Label Group’s BMLG Records, label president Jimmy Harnen ran the trio through a brainstorming exercise designed to focus on its strengths. Harnen asked the act to name the three songs that best identify it, and the group answered unanimously: “Need You Now,” “I Run to You” and “American Honey.” “Those just feel like the three that provide such depth and richness in the lyrics and musicality,” guitarist Dave Haywood notes. “And he said, ‘Let’s chase after that. Why can’t we go after that again?’ So there’s been kind of this subconscious thing happening where I think we’ve been figuring out a way to kind of turn home and return a little bit to that sound.” Their BMLG debut -- “What If I Never Get Over You,” released to country radio via PlayMPE on May 17 -- does exactly that. With Charles Kelley and Hillary Scott trading lead voices, its pulsing foundation echoes the heartbeats of “Need You Now” and “I Run to You,” songs that embody the drive in much of Tom Petty’s work and John Waite’s “Missing You.” “It’s kind of four on the floor,” says Haywood. “There’s something about that groove that we have always just been drawn toward.” The new single came from singer-songwriter Ryan Hurd (“To a T,” “Sunrise, Sunburn, Sunset”), who also penned Lady A’s “You Look Good.” The original idea, “If I Never Get Over You,” got a strong positive reaction when he introduced it on Oct. -
