Sometimes achieving this is not very easy or safe for kittens, but lessons have to be learned. What Chi will have to soon find out is that doors are made to be closed. Strolling into random homes, sheds or cars is a big no-no because you may never make it out again. Lost in her surroundings, the kitten struggles to find her family and instead is found by a young boy, Youhei, and his mother. They take the kitten home, but, as pets are not allowed in their housing complex, they try to find her a new home. This proves to be difficult, and the family decides to keep the kitten. While being housebrokenthe kitten mistakenly answers to "Chi" as in shi Chis Sweet Home: Volume 5 from shikkothe Japanese word for " urine " and this becomes her name. Chi then lives with her new family, learning about different things and meeting new people and animals. Chi is a small grey Chis Sweet Home: Volume 5 white kitten with large eyes. She is easily distracted and does not have much experience of the world. Chi is particularly attracted to small moving objects, but is scared by larger animals, especially dogs. Although her speech is audible to the viewers, the Yamadas cannot hear her talk. It is revealed her mother called her "Sarah". Yohei is a little boy who finds Chi when she gets lost. He is cheerful, kind, obedient, and fond of toy trains. Mom is a housewife. She stays home with Yohei and Chi. Dad is the working man of the house, a graphic designer who often works from home. He is very fond of Chi and wants her to like him in return, but he is often called upon to do Chis Sweet Home: Volume 5 that make her angry with him such as taking her to the vet or trimming her claws. The manga series is written and illustrated by Kanata Konami. The manga ended on June The English language version of the manga is published by Vertical Incand is oriented left-to-right Chis Sweet Home: Volume 5 an American comic, instead of the typical Japanese right-to-left format. Chi remembers her mother and tries to go out and find her. Asleep after a long day, Chi has dreams and nightmares about her past. The Yamadas believe they have found a new owner for Chi, but Chi isn't so sure. The Yamadas decide they will Chis Sweet Home: Volume 5 Chi themselves as they can't give her to anyone. Yohei is told to clear up some bouncy balls, but Chi knocks them down. Yamada worries that Chi doesn't have any toys. Chi has a bundle of new toys, but doesn't know what to do with them. Yamada is trying to work. Chi has other ideas. After Mrs. Yamada frightens her, Chi dashes out of the apartment. Chi discovers the world outside the apartment. While Yohei searches for her outside, Chi has fun discovering the local park. The park becomes lonely and scary at night. It's time for Chi's health checkup, but how to smuggle her out? The landlady nearly spots Chi, but Yohei's quick thinking saves the day. Chi's first medical check-up is a traumatic experience. Chi is afraid that Mr. Yamada wants to take her for another check-up, and won't come near him. Chi wants to scratch something. Unfortunately, her objects of choice are very expensive. Yamada gets a new pair of jeansbut Chi prefers the old ones. The Yamadas buy Chi a board to scratch, but she isn't sure what it's meant to do. Since the publication of H.G. Wells’s The Time Machine (1895) time travel has become a popular feature of various SF-stories. Time travel has proven not only a fantastic device for imagining “what if” – stories, but also an intriguing means to revise past events from a contemporary perspective. A very interesting and recent example is Kaiji Kawaguchi’s ongoing manga series Zipangu (translated as Zipang in English and French), which has met since its start in 2001, in the popular Kodansha manga magazine Weekly Morning, both popular and critical success1 (Masanao, 2004: 184-187). By August 2008 some 400 episodes were collected in 36 volumes2 of the Japanese edition, and 21 volumes were translated into French3 – which will be the ones analysed in this article (the number of the volume will appear in Latin numbers, and the number of the episode in arabic numbers: followed by page number after a colon). While the English translation was suspended4, the French edition seems a lot more succesful, at least from a critical point of view – see Bastide (2006, 218-219) or Finet (2008: 272-273), and a nomination at the Angoulême comics festival in 2007). Zipang is not only a fairly skillfully manga for young males (“seinen”), but it adresses also a number of current political debates of Japan’s recent history and near future.
