www.taccup.com.au 3 WHAT IF SCENARIO WHAT IF SCENARIO JUST when it was thought that the fi nal eight was settled, the results of last weekend has spun open not only the door to the eight, but also the positions within the eight. The Bushrangers fi nd themselves precariously poised as Bendigo has won three games, but none since Round 9. its latest loss against Sandringham has left the door ajar During its current seven game losing skid, the Pioneers, for the Dragons to make a last gasp bid to replace them in like Gippsland, have suffered some heart-breaking losses. the fi nals. If the Bushrangers lose, however, it will drop out of the eight if the Dragons defeat the Jets. Murray can still make the fi nals even if it loses and so does Sandringham. Northern enters the match playing as good as anyone in the competition. The Knights have won six of its past seven games, including wins over ladder- leader Geelong, Dandenong, Calder and Gippsland. It’s an impressive formline. After winning just three of its fi rst nine games, the Knights have hit form at the right time. Victory against Murray and a Dandenong defeat will see the Knights jump over the Stingrays and into the top four. This is the fi rst time Murray and Northern have met this season.

Certainly, it could also set up a Qualifying Final match-up against all the stars need to align, but the Cannons are riding a Dandenong, which could drop from its current third four game winning streak that includes victories against position to fourth if either Western or Northern win. If the Western and Geelong, albeit both by one point. Conversely, Dandenong takes a fi ve game winning streak into the game albeit those three wins were against clubs that won’t play fi nals. Much has happened since Geelong thrashed Dandenong by 65-points in the season opener. Expect a much tighter contest.

OAKLEIGH CHARGERS (10th, 5-10-1) V NORTH BALLARAT REBELS (12th, 2-14) LITTLE riding but personal pride on this match-up between last season’s premiers Oakleigh and minor premiers North Ballarat. Both clubs have struggled mightily to have any impact this season. All the Chargers’ fi ve wins have come by under 18-points and two of those came in the fi rst three rounds. The Rebels season has been worst. It has won just two games and its last win was by one goal against Bendigo Pioneers back in Round 10. Signifi cantly, North Ballarat’s other win was against who they belted by 71-points to end a seven game losing spree Western Jets and start to the season. Sandringham started the season against each other in Round 1, now complete the home and away season going head to head.

WESTERN JETS (4th, 9-6-1, 120%) V SANDRINGHAM DRAGONS (9th, 7-8-1) SANDRINGHAM can secure a fi nals berth if two things happen. First and foremost, the Dragons must defeat Western. If the Dragons don’t win then its season is over. Even if Sandringham does topple the Jets it then must require Northern Knights to defeat Murray Bushrangers or Bendigo to upset Gippsland. If all those scenarios pan out then Sandringham, which kept alive its fl ickering fi nals hopes with a 53-point win against Murray Bushrangers last week, will jump into fi nals action. Sandringham’s season has gone in bursts. Three times it has won back-to-back games then endures a sequence of defeats. It must continue the former trend this weekend. Certainly, Sandringham coach Justin Plapp knows it won’t be an easy assignment, particularly defeating Western, which has been a model of consistency all season. The Jets have won seven of its past nine games and its defeats were three points by ladder-leader Geelong and one-point Oakleigh Chargers play North Ballarat in the fi nal round against Calder. It has also won by two points against Gippsland and six points against North Ballarat so the Jets certainly know all about playing under intense pressure. If Western win and Dandenong lose then the Jets will jump over the Stingrays into third place. Conversely, if Western lose and Calder and Northern win then the Jets could fall to sixth. Western’s biggest losing margin all season was the 23-point defeat infl icted, ironically, by Sandringham in the season opener. Western should expect another tight contest as Sandringham won’t want to leave anything in the locker room.

10 www.afl vic.com.au TAC CUP RADIO GAMES TAC CUP RADIO PREVIEW The TAC Cup Radio team will broadcast the fi nal home and away game of 2013 season from Highgate Rec. Reserve featuring the Sandringham Dragons and the Western Jets. Depending on how results go, the Dragons could make the fi nals in season 2013 (if the Power and/or Bushrangers lose). For the Jets, a win will cement a top 4 fi nish and a loss will allow either the Northern Knights or Calder Cannons to take their spot with a win. This fi xture could be very signifi cant, given results fall a particular way, and it promises to be a great fi nale to the home and away season. Prediction – Both sides are coming off good wins.
