• CONDEMNATION of COMMUNISM in PONTIFICAL MAGISTERIUM Since Pius IX Till Paul VI
CONDEMNATION OF COMMUNISM IN PONTIFICAL MAGISTERIUM since Pius IX till Paul VI Petru CIOBANU Abstract: The present article, based on several magisterial documents, illus- trates the approach of Roman Pontiffs, beginning with Pius IX and ending with Paul VI, with regard to what used to be called „red plague”, i.e. communism. The article analyses one by one various encyclical letters, apostolic letters, speeches and radio messages in which Roman Pontiffs condemned socialist theories, either explicitly or implicitly. Keywords: Magisterium, Pope, communism, socialism, marxism, Christianity, encyclical letter, apostolic letter, collectivism, atheism, materialism. Introduction And there appeared another wonder in heaven; and behold a great red dragon, having seven heads and ten horns, and seven crowns upon his heads. And his tail drew the third part of the stars of heaven, and did cast them to the earth: and the dragon stood before the woman which was ready to be delivered, for to devour her child as soon as it was born. And when the dragon saw that he was cast unto the earth, he persecuted the woman which brought forth the man child. And the dragon was wroth with the woman, and went to make war with the remnant of her seed, which keep the commandments of God, and have the testimony of Jesus Christ (Rev 12,3-4.13.17). These words, written over 2.000 years ago, didn’t lose their value along time, since then and till now, reflecting the destiny of Christian Church and Christians – „those who guard the God words and have the Jesus tes- timony” – in the world, where appear so many „dragons” that have the aim to persecute Jesus Christ followers.

This is in particular a great time to pray for fallen away family members! During these dates, there will be a Collect, Secret, and Post- Communion added to each Mass for this intention replacing the prayer for the Pope (pro Papa). Prayers at Mass Collect: O God, who setteth straight what has gone astray, and gatherest together what is scattered, and keepest what Thou has gathered together: we beseech Thee in Thy mercy to pour down on Christian people that grace of union with Thee, that putting disunion aside and joining themselves to the true Shepherd of Thy Church, they may be able to ren- der Thee worthy service. Through our Lord Jesus Christ… Secret: Sanctify, O Lord, for the union of Christian people, these gifts offered to Thee; and by their means grant us the grace of union and peace within Thy Church. Through our Lord… Post-Communion: We beseech Thee, O Lord, that this Thy holy communion which we have received, as it represents the union of the faithful in Thee, so may it bring about re- union in Thy Church.

  • The Position of the Catholic Church in Croatia 1945 - 1970
UDK 322(497.5)’’1945/1970’’ THE POSITION OF THE CATHOLIC CHURCH IN CROATIA 1945 - 1970 Miroslav AKMADŽA* Irreconcilable standpoints After the end of World War Two, it was difficult for the Catholic Church to accept the new Yugoslav government simply because of its communist and atheistic ideology, which alone was unacceptable according to Church teach- ings. Furthermore, the Church leadership was familiar with the position of the ruling Communist Party of Yugoslavia (KPJ - Komunistička partija Jugoslavije) on the role of the Church in society. The Church was also aware that the KPJ was under the direct influence of the communist regime in the USSR, which had mercilessly clashed with religious communities from the very moment it came to power. Therefore, there developed a fear for the future of the Catholic Church and other churches. Even before the end of the war, when it was already clear that the KPJ-led Partisan forces would take power in the coun- try, a Bishops’ conference was held in Zagreb on 24 March 1945, which issued a pastoral condemning the conduct of the Partisan movement. In the pasto- ral, the bishops strongly protested the killing of Catholic priests and believers, “whose lives were taken away in unlawful trials based upon false accusations by haters of the Catholic Church.”1 Meanwhile, among the ranks of the new government, in addition to the atheistic worldview and the influence of communist ideology from the USSR, a negative attitude developed towards all religious communities, in particular towards the Catholic Church because of its alleged negative role during World War Two.

THE CATHOLIC UNIVERSITY OF AMERICA An Examination of the Foundation and Activation of the Cooperation of Laity and Pastors in the Munus Docendi in Catechesis according to Canon 776 A DISSERTATION Submitted to the Faculty of the School of Canon Law Of The Catholic University of America In Partial Fulfillment of the Requirements For the Degree Doctor in Canon Law By Zabrina R. Decker Washington, D.C. 2016 An Examination of the Foundation and Activation of the Cooperation of Laity and Pastors in the Munus Docendi in Catechesis according to Canon 776 Zabrina R. Decker, J.C.D. Director: Rev. Robert J. Kaslyn, S.J., J.C.D. Canon 776 of the 1983 Code of Canon Law establishes the obligation of the pastor to provide catechetical formation and responsibility of laity to cooperate in such formation.1 This study uniquely focuses on the foundation and activation of the cooperation of the lay Christian faithful with pastors in catechesis. Such cooperation derives from baptism (both the right to witness to the gospel message [c. 211] and the correlative obligation of suitable preparation to exercise that right [c. 229]). Chapter one establishes baptism as the canonical foundation for incorporation, personhood and catechetical responsibility in the Church. From this constitutive basis, chapter two presents the ecclesiology of the sanctifying, governing and teaching (catechetical) mission of the Church for both laity and pastors. Conciliar, ecclesial and canonical definitions of catechesis are the focus of chapter three. Chapter four explores the definition of the lay Christian faithful as derived from their ontological status in baptism.

Caput I DE ECCLESIAE MYSTERIO 1. 2. 3. Venit igitur Filius, missus a Patre, qui nos in Eo ante mundi constitutionem elegit ac in adoptionem filiorum praedestinavit, quia in Eo omnia instaurare sibi complacuit (cf.
