20170806.Pdf FEAST of the TRANSFIGURATION of the LORD The Pastor’s Corner Immaculate Heart of Mary Devotion to the Immaculate Heart of Mary brings us closer to her son. She was called to be his mother and to share in his redemptive suffering. We are called through this devotion to unite to God through Mary’s heart and her sorrows. When we consecrate our hearts to Mary’s Immaculate Heart, we give way to our complete devotion to Jesus. Although we are always trying to unite ourselves with Our Lord, Mary acts as our intermediary. We are all suffering in some way or know of someone who is suffering. Sometimes it could be a feeling of loss of control of things, and other times it can be something tragic. When we ask our Mother Mary to pray for us and intercede, we are being humble and we are recognizing her as the holy mother of Our Lord. Last year I read 33 Days to Morning Glory: A Do-It-Yourself Retreat In Preparation for Marian Consecration, by Michael Gaitley. It was a wonderful means to walk my way through a retreat with the saints who had a great devotion to Mary. It is a great way to grow closer to Jesus through his mother. One of the most comforting of prayers is the Memorare. I encourage you to memorize this prayer, as it always helps in times of need. Remember, O most gracious Virgin Mary, that never was it known that anyone who fled to thy protection, implored thy help, or sought thy intercession was left unaided. Inspired by this confidence, I fly unto thee, O Virgin of virgins, my mother; to thee do I come, before thee I stand, sinful and sorrowful. O Mother of the Word Incarnate, despise not my petitions, but in thy mercy hear and answer me. Amen. The MISSION of ST. MARGARET - ST. FEAST of the TRANSFIGURATION of the LORD Our Lady of Fatima and her Three Secrets Our Lady of Fatima is a Roman Catholic title of the Blessed Virgin Mary based on the famed Marian apparitions reported in 1917 by three shepherd children at the Cova da Iria, in Fatima, Portugal. The three children were Lucia Santos, and her cousins, Jacinta and Francisco Marto. Bishop Jose da Silva declared the miracle worthy of belief on October 13, 1930, officially permitting it the cult of devotion within the Catholic Church. On May 13, 2017, the 100th Anniversary of the First Marian Apparition of Fatima, Pope Francis was in Fatima to canonize Sts. Jacinta and Francisco Marto. The three children whom Our Lady of the Rosary appeared to on May 13, 1917 were instructed by Our lady to continue saying the Rosary everyday in Her Honor to obtain World Peace and the end of World War I. Our Lady appeared to three children on the 13th of the month until the final appearance on October 13, 1917 when 70,000 people witnessed the Miracle of the Sun when the sun spun in spectacular colors and appeared to come down out of the sky as if it were to almost hit the earth and then returned to its natural place in the cosmos. Meet the saints St. Louis Marie de Montfort (1673 -1716) Louis’ life is inseparable from his efforts to promote genuine devotion to Mary, the mother of Jesus and mother of the Church. Totus tuus (completely yours) was Louis’s personal motto; Pope St. John Paul II chose it as his Episcopal motto. He was ordained a diocesan priest in 1700. In his preaching, which attracted thousands of people back to the faith, Fr. Louis recommended frequent, even daily, Holy Communion (not the custom then!) and imitation of the Virgin Mary’s ongoing acceptance of God’s will for her life. He founded the Missionaries of the Company of Mary (for priests and brothers) and the Daughters of Wisdom, who cared especially for the sick. He is known for his particular devotion to the Blessed Virgin Mary and the practice of praying the Rosary.     WHO WAS SAINT LOUIS DE MONTFORT? Saint Louis de Montfort is one of Our Lady’s greatest apostles. Pope John Paul II came to this understanding while he was a student in the seminary. He was having difficulty with the issue of devotion to Our Lady, perhaps fearful that devotion to Mary would in some way take attention away from devotion and consecration to Jesus. Then Pope John Paul II read Saint Louis de Montfort’s very popular and compelling book, True Devotion to the Blessed Virgin Mary. His conversion experience was so powerful that he spent his pontificate speaking about Marian Spirituality, culminating in his great legacy to Catholics: The Luminous Mysteries or the Mysteries of Light, in which he detailed five new mysteries of the Rosary. Today, every person has the opportunity to walk in the footsteps of Pope John Paul II and, like he, commit to a fervent devotion to Mary. Saint Louis de Montfort’s astounding explanation of Mary's place in theology and in our spiritual lives underscores the reason dedication to Mary is completely Christ-centric. Mary leads us to Jesus because he is always with her. Saint Louis de Montfort understood the numinous relationship between Mary and Jesus. It is a truism to say, “To Jesus through Mary.” Mary, the first apostle and the first Christian, is the easiest road to Jesus Christ. It took the inspiration of a saint, like Saint Louis de Montfort, to realize that Jesus and Mary are inseparable and that all devotion to Mary is automatically a devotion to Jesus Christ.

Born in 1673 in France, Saint Louis de Montfort is best known for his devotion to the Blessed Virgin Mary. As a seminary student he lived among the very poor in Paris and preached about the Gospel to them. He longed to become a preacher so he joined the Dominicans, who were known for their preaching and for their devotion to the Rosary. Pope Clement XI appointed him as an Apostolic Missionary in France and he travelled throughout France preaching parish missions and leading retreats. During his travels he found time to write his well-known books: True Devotion to Mary, The Secret of Mary, and the Secret of the Rosary. His preaching was not always well received; in fact, he was poisoned on one occasion and his health deteriorated. He died at the age of only 43 while preaching his final mission. 1.
