THE ARTS AT MILLERSVILLE | 2019-2020 LANCASTER COUNTY’S Home for the Cultural Arts What was your first experience with creative expression? Was it when you first heard the soulfulness of a song, were moved by the emotion of dance, felt the intrinsic beauty of a painting, or saw similarities in your life to the characters in a dramatic play? All of us have a shared sense of wonder when it comes to the arts; that indelible memory that touches you and stays with you a lifetime. Those memorable experiences impact and mold our lives - who we are, how we see the world, and how we want the world to see us. At The Arts at MU, our mission is to create and cultivate those arts experiences and to ensure that music, dance, theatre, film and spoken word thrive at Millersville University and in Lancaster County, becoming a seamless thread woven throughout the lives of students and community members alike. Those who come through the doors of the Ware and Winter Centers and share in creative expression – be it listening to the tonal luxuriance of Chanticleer or the inspirational words of Dr. King in “We Shall Overcome,” enjoying the interactive Microworld exhibit in the Eckert Gallery or the antics of rescued dogs in “Mutts Gone Nuts!” - will leave with a deeper understanding of themselves, a better appreciation of cultural diversity, and a stronger sense of community all by experiencing the cultural arts together. Enjoy watching a young boy take on “A Snowy Day” or a film about the love of pizza, clapping to delicious Divas or celebrating Beethoven’s 250th birthday. We welcome making memories with you, your family and friends. I still remember my first experience with the arts - I bet you do too!

The Mombergs are a loving, sober family who run a successful ranch, live a traditional worldview, and are relearning their native language. The Thick Dark Fog is the story of Walter Littlemoon who attended a federal Indian boarding school in South Dakota sixty years ago. The mission of many of these schools in 1950, was still to “kill the Indian and save the man.” The children were not allowed to speak their language or express their cultural identity in any way. What effects did these unresolved traumas of these early abuses cause? At age 58, Walter decided to write and publish his memoirs.
