IRVING IS GOLDEN: At the 2014 FIBA World Cup in Madrid, Spain, Kyrie Irving h elp ed Team USA c apture th e gold med al. His play earned him the 2014 FIBA World Cup Most Valuable Player aw ard and All-Star Five selection. As th e starting guard in nin e tou rnament games with a 9-0 reco rd, Irvin g averaged 12.1 poin ts on .563 (45-80) shooting, inc luding .609 (14-23) from the three-point lin e, 2.6 rebounds, 3.6 assists and 1.9 steals in 24.4 minutes per game. In the 129-92 win over Serb ia in th e gold medal game on Sep t. 14, th e C avs guard made all six of his three-point attempts as part of a 10-13 (.769) shooting display on his way to a game-high 26 points and four assists. ONE HOT SUMMER: The Cavs went 4-1 in the Samsung NBA Summer League in Las Vegas this past summer. Matthew Dellavedova was one of the key contributors, appearing in three games and averaging 11.7 points, 4.7 rebounds and a team-high 4.7 assists in 32.0 minutes. NEON DION: Dion Waiters appeared in 70 games (24 starts) in 2013-14 and averaged 15.9 points, 2.8 rebounds and 3.0 assists in 29.6 minutes per game. On the season, Waiters had 24 games of at least 20 points, including a pair of 30-point performances (Dec. 6 at ATL & March 20 vs. OKC). Waiters put up strong numbers in the final 15 games of the season as a starter (21.2 points, 4.3 assists, career-high four straight 20-point games from 3/20-25) and scored at least 20 points in nine of those 15 games.

KYRIE-DICULOUS: Kyrie Irving owned the highest scoring average among Eastern Conference point guards at 20.8 points (2nd among all NBA PGs) and was one of only six players in the NBA with averages of at least 20 points and six assists per game in 2013-14 (S. Curry, L. James, J. Harden, R. Westbrook & I. Thomas). Irving also scored at least 20 points in 38 contests in 2013-14, including 30 points or more 10 times and 40 points or more three times.  In 2013-14, Irving appeared in 71 games (all starts) with averages of 20.8 points, 3.6 rebounds, 6.1 assists and 1.5 steals in 35.2 minutes per game. It was the second-straight season that Kyrie Irving averaged at least 20 points and five assists per Highest Scoring PGs in NBA game. He is only the 2nd Cavs player to every average those numbers in multiple seasons (L. James). in 2013-14 (min. 58 games)  Irving scored a league-high 55 points in overtime this past season and his 7.9 overtime points per game were the 2nd- Point Guard PPG most in the NBA (minimum: 2 OT games). His 12 points in the second overtime on Dec. 26 versus Atlanta was one point shy 1. Stephen Curry (GSW) 24.0 of tying the most points scored in a single overtime in franchise history (LeBron James, 13 points in second OT on Jan. 24, 2. KYRIE IRVING (CLE) 20.8 2007 vs. PHI). 3. Damian Lillard (POR) 20.7  Irving was also solid in the fourth quarter with an average of 6.1 points (8th in NBA).  In a 99-79 victory over the Utah Jazz on Feb. 28, Irving notched his first career triple-double with 21 points, 10 rebounds and 12 assists.  In the win over Milwaukee on Dec. 20, he had 39 points on 13-25 (.520) shooting, six assists and a career-high four blocks in 42 minutes. Since blocks became an official stat in 1973- 74, Irving is the only Cavs guard to post 39 points and four blocks in a single game .

 For just the 3rd time in Cavaliers history, a Cavs player tallied at least 40 points, nine assists and four steals in a single game when Irving put up those numbers against Atlanta on Dec. 26. The only other times that feat was accomplished in Cavaliers history were March, 5, 2008 (LeBron James, 50 points, 1 0 assists, four steals at NYK) and March 13, 1979 (Campy Russell, 41 points, nine assists, four steals vs. PHX).  Versus the Trail Blazers on Dec. 17, Irving put up his 4 th double-double of 2013-14 with 25 points, 10 assists and zero turnovers, becoming the first Cavalier with those totals since March 19, 2009 (L. CAVALIERS AND PACERS TEAMING TO FIGHT HUNGER IN CINCINNATI BEFORE PRESEASON GAME: Before th eir two teams face of f in preseason action Wedn esday night, volunteers from th e Cleveland Cavaliers and Indiana Pac ers will team up with Feed the Children to hel p hundreds of local Cincinnati families. Representatives from the Cavs and Pacers organizations, as well as local memb ers of the U.S. military, will be at Feed the Ch ildren ’s partner agency, Freestore Foodb ank (Customer Connection Center) , Wednesday afternoon (3:00-5:00 p.m.) to hand out food and h ygiene products to 400 families in n eed p re-selected by Feed th e Children. Each family will rec eive a 25-pound box of food and a 10-pound box of basic essentials. Cleveland radio duo John Michael and Jim Chon es, as well as television sid eline reporter Allie Clifton, will be on-site to lend a help ing h and. Th ey will b e joined b y Indiana’s television broadcast team: analyst Quinn Buckn er, play-by-play announcer Chris D enari and sid elin e reporter Jeremiah Johnson. CAVALIERS PLAYERS WALK THE RUNWAY: The stars came out on Thursday , Octob er 2 – Frank, D ean , Sammy, and even M arilyn took th e stage at Quicken Loans Arena. But it was th e “Little Stars” who really stole th e show. FRANCHISE’S PAST AND PRESENT CONVERGE IN AKRON FOR A WORTHY CAUSE: Fall was in th e air on September 22 nd as more th an 300 golfers teed off at the renown ed Firestone Country Club in Akron for the 29th Annual Cavaliers Youth Fund Golf Classic, presented by Cleveland Clinic, Jani-King and PwC Cleveland. The signature yearly event brou ght together the Cavs’ p ast – with the likes of former gen eral man ager, Wayn e Embry, and former players Terrell Brandon and Larry Nance – and the franchise’s present and future – with n ew h ead co ach, D avid Blatt, general manager David Griffin and players like Kevin Love and Mike Miller. The Golf Classic is the largest fundraiser each year for the C avaliers Youth Fund (CYF), a fund of th e Cleveland Foundation . C YF distributes th e net proceeds fro m the event to Cleveland -area organizations supporting children, f amilies and young adults in the areas of education, health, recreation, employmen t, entrep ren eurship and lif e skills. Sinc e its inception in 1993, CYF has distributed grants totaling more than $22 million to d eserving organizations b enefiting Northeast Ohio .
