GOD USES the HUMBLE. First Bible Lesson: Romans Chapter 9 Verse 25 GOD USES THE HUMBLE. First Bible Lesson: Romans Chapter 9 verse 25 "As he saith also in Osee, I will call them my people, which were not my people; and her beloved, which was not beloved." Second Bible Lesson: 1st Corinthians Chapter 1 verse 28 "And base things of the world, and things which are despised, hath God chosen, y ea, and things which are not, to bring to nought things that are." Golden Text: 1st Corinthians Chapter 4 verse 7 "For who maketh thee to differ from another? and what hast thou that thou didst not receive? now if thou didst receive it, why dost thou glory, as if thou hadst not received it?" Brethren, that is the theme of our revelation tonight. If we listened attentivel y to what was read to us, we would realize, it is wrong for one to be boastful o f oneself. It is a pathetic situation, man has not been given this wisdom. If we were to understand, man is nothing and that it is only God who has the choice t o use man as He likes, then nobody would have cultivated the habit of being prou d and pompous. For instance, God has not called you, because you are good, or wo rthy, but He has called you according to His loving kindness. No person should either be sad or glad because of his position. Wherever you fin d yourself, that is exactly where God has chosen to place you. He has not placed you there because you are so bad, neither has He placed you in a given position because you are good. He places you according to His loving kindness. Whatever He wishes you should be is what you certainly will be; and what He does not wish you become, you will never become. For being the potter, He has power over the clay of the same lump; to make a vessel unto honor and another lump to make a vessel unto dishonor, and you have no questions to ask! I have not seen any reason why man should ask God any questions. I have not seen any reason why any person should boast. Neither do I have any reason to justify why man should be sad or sorrowful, because it is Nature which creates you, you do not create yourself. If He wishes to elevate you today, He will exalt you. If He wishes to abase any person tomorrow, He will bring him down. Whatever He wishes you to be, you will become what He wants you to be. Why then should people boast? Why should people complain God does not love them? Who do you consider to be those whom God loves most, and who do you consider is hated most by God? God does not love anybody more than others, neither does He h ate any person more than others. He only submits to His will. Whatever we refer to as an evil thing is not known by God as evil. Whatever we r efer to as a good thing is equally not known by God as good. The only thing is t hat God does His own will. Let us therefore not decide whether something is good or bad. Do not ask questions on why God should do something to one person, but has not done it to another. Do not say, it was for some other causes that made a certain thing happen. Whatever happens to you should not be attributed to anyth ing; everything happens as God wills. It is not as you wish, neither is it as man wishes, but all are according to the will of God. We are lumps of clay, and He is the potter. Do not ponder over wha tever you see in the world, but do accept situations as they come. Do not even s eek to know the causes of anything. The reason is that the more we look, the les s we see. This is the cancer afflicting people in the world today. PEOPLE DO NOT REALISE NO ONE CAN KNOW THE MIND OF GOD. REMEMBER, MAN PROPOSES AND GOD DISPOSE S. You have heard the text, it says and it shall come to pass that those who were n ot my people, will be called my people. This is the one thing that has shocked t he inhabitants of the world, who would ask why a certain person should become wh at he is; or why a certain person does not become what we think he should be. Ha s not the potter power over the clay of the same lump, to make one vessel noble? You should then realize, it is not of him who wills, nor of him who runs the rac e. We should rest content with whatever position we find ourselves. I have not s een any reason why any person should be fastidious, or frown or do anything at a ll that may tend to question God's wisdom, for all the things that happen in the world, there is none that concerns man. We have no hands in whatever takes plac e in the world. We have no right in these things and till tomorrow, we shall not have any right in them. It is only the king who knows the secret of His kingdom. This is the ti me God has opened everybody's eyes, so everyone is satisfied with the position G od has placed him. You should not determine a certain man will perish, or that t he other man will be saved. Do not argue, what happens to a certain person is th e result of his evil deeds, or, whatever good thing that happens to another pers on is attributable to his goodness. This is erroneous. We are vessels of God. He knows whatever purpose He wants to use us for. We should not concern ourselves with the affairs of God. All such co ncerns would result in disturbing the mind. Sometimes you may erroneously claim, God hates a certain group of persons, but I want you to remember God does not h ate any person. God does not love anyone more than others. He loves Himself and honors Himself and thinks about Himself because He is all in all. There is nothi ng that worries God, therefore nothing should bother anyone. Whatever comes your way, give thanks to God. Let not your heart be troubled for whatever you may se e from day to day. Whatever happens is in accordance with the will of the Almigh ty God. And so brethren, I do not wish to overload you, the first bible lesson w ill be read: First Bible Lesson: Romans Chapter 9 verse 25 "As he saith also in Osee, I will call them my people, which were not my people; and her beloved, which was not beloved." Brethren, have you listened to what has been read to you? That explains why Nath anael asked Philip, "Can any good thing come from Nazareth? Philip told him, com e and see." (John Chapter 1 verse 46). Till today, most people do continue to as k the same question: why should that evil man have good things coming his way? O r why an abominable man should live that long. Know this, God does His things as He likes, and in accordance with His will. If He does anything such is meant to reveal His glory, therefore do not be sad and do not be joyous. It is what He h ad planned to do aforetime. Hence, whatever happens, give thanks to Him. At times you may think, a particular person is suffering from his past sins, and at other times, you may feel, a person is forgotten by God. If you say, a perso n has been forgotten by God, then why does he say, "And it shall come to pass, t hat in the place where it was said unto them, Ye are not my people; there shall they be called the children of the living God." (Romans Chapter 9 verse 26). Sometimes it may suddenly occur to you, your family has no future and you feel t he more disturbed when you look at another family progressing, I am telling you, you should not be bothered, for as it is written in Hosea, "I will call them my people which were not my people, and her beloved which were not my beloved." This is an indication, God has not forgotten His people, therefore do not ever t hink there is any situation in which you find yourself, God is not aware of. In like manner do not ever think, there is anything impossible with God. Even if He digs the ground and puts you in there, He is the person keeping you there; at t he fullness of time, He will bring you out from the heart of the earth. Very man y people argue, God has forgotten about them, and unfortunately, this thought ma y even lead them to resort to suicide. Remember, you may be the one He spoke abo ut that at the fullness of time, those who were not His people, He would call th em His beloved. If you are in a lovely estate, be reminded, He has a reason for keeping you ther e. The expression, "and it shall come to pass," relates to those who are despise d, those who are not regarded by others, and those who do not exist at all in th e world; for it will come to pass that those who were not my people will be call ed my people and in the same token, those who were despised, those who were not regarded as anything and those who do not exist at all, will be called "The Belo ved Children of God." The commotion which sets in is, when He goes to salvage such a person from that state, people would begin to question why such a person should be lifted up.

    I INTRODUCTION TO THE GOSPEL OF MARK The Gospel of Mark was neglected by early Christian tradition, rarely—if ever—used in preaching.The Gospel of Matthew surpassed it in both length and detail.Mark was seen as something of a poor cousin to the great Gospel of Matthew, used so consistently by the fathers of the church. Already at the turn of the first Christian century authors were citing Matthew (the Didache [90s C.E.], 1 Clement [96–98 C.E.], Barnabas [about 110 C.E.], and Ignatius of Antioch [110 C.E.]). Toward the middle of the second century (circa 130 C.E.) Papias, the bishop of Hierapolis in South Phrygia in the province of Asia, associated the Second Gospel with a certain “Mark”and the Apostle Peter,and Clement of Alexandria lo- cated that association in the city of Rome. Irenaeus, Clement of Alexandria, Origen, Jerome, and Tertullian agree: the Gospel of Mark appeared in Rome, and reports a Petrine story of Jesus, interpreted by his associate, Mark. But the great fathers of the church scarcely use this gospel in their writings. Augustine articulated most clearly an understanding of the Gospel of Mark that has endured till the modern era: “Marcus eum subsecutus tamquam pedisequus et breviator eius videtur.”1 As the emerging Christian church looked consistently to Matthew for its in- struction, no commentary on the Gospel of Mark appeared until the turn of the sixth cen- tury. From 650 to 1000 C.E. thirteen major commentaries were written on Matthew, and four on Mark. This neglect continued down to the end of the eighteenth century.2 The Gospel of Mark maintained its place in the Christian canon because of its traditional rela- tionship with Peter and the city of Rome.But it has been well described as “present but ab- sent.”3 As the Christian church became an increasingly unified political, social, and ideological phenomenon in the early centuries, “biblical texts were not used as narratives in themselves but as sources for proofs of doctrinal and ecclesiastical positions.

He tells his disciples that it is for their good that he goes away- ‘Unless I go away, the Advocate will not come to you…he will guide you into all the truth.’ (John 16) The ‘Advocate’ is another name for the Holy Spirit- the presence of God with us. In the Old Testament the Spirit of God is seen in creation and is given to specific people at certain times, but Jesus comes to bring in a new era when the Holy Spirit will be available to all people- including us! Jesus has promised not to leave us, but to be with us and empower us for the life that he has called us to. We can know that presence with us even now, whatever our circumstances. In the New Testament we see several images for the Holy Spirit: • In Acts 2 it descends on the disciples as a rushing wind and tongues of fire.

He was Greek and addressed his Gospel to a man who was also Greek. Scholars believe Luke had Mary, the mother of Jesus, James, the brother of Jesus, and many other eyewitnesses for sources as he did his research and wrote this Gospel. Paul referred to Luke as his “beloved physician” and traveling companion. He obviously traveled with Paul to treat the physical symptoms of the apostle’s “thorn in the flesh”. (II Corinthians 12) Paul made reference to Luke three times in his inspired letters (Colossians 4:14; II Timothy 4:11; Philemon 24). Luke is also the author of the Book of Acts, which he also addressed to this same man, Theophilus. Since this name means “lover of God”, some scholars believe these two books are addressed to any lover of God, while others believe Theophilus was a man known to Luke. The author of this Gospel was a well-educated man. He would have been considered a scientist in his day. He used more medical terms than Hippocrates, the “father of modern medicine”, and he used the best Greek grammar of all the New Testament writers, including Paul. He was a gifted writer and a very accurate historian. When Luke records the missionary journeys of Paul he uses the pronouns, “we” and “they” interchangeably.
