December 2012 President’S Message Dear MSC Members; Ski Season Is Now Upon Us December Volume 110 December 2012 President’s Message Dear MSC Members; Ski Season is now upon us. I had a wonderful weekend at the Lodge Thanksgiving weekend. I took the opportunity of the early snow and went skiing with my two older granddaughters at North Star. They skied until it closed. It was a lot of fun even though we only skied on the green runs for the day. Talking about the Lodge I want to remind everyone to do their part when they are there; not only clean up after yourself, but pick a maintenance chore from the clip board and do it. If everyone does this, we will have a COM . sparkling clean Lodge for the entire winter season; so do not forget to make your reservations as soon as possible! Race season starts in January and the sooner you put your name on the list the better your chances are of getting to stay at the Lodge, not only on off race weekends, but also when there is availability on race weekends. Guests can be booked or added to your reservations on Non-race weekends up to 60 days before the stay and 30 days before the stay for Holiday Weekends. MODESTOSKICLUB . Renewal time is coming to end. We have several of you “lagging” on WWW getting those Liability Forms signed and turned in with your Dues/Renewal Fees. Remember; until your have turned in both of these, you will not be able to stay at the Lodge as a member or reserve a key. Next Wednesday is our Christmas Dinner Meeting at the Fruit Yard. There is detailed information inside the news letter. We are having full DJ Music by Clarence Teem (our own member) and yes we are going to dance. Cheryl has lots of things planned to do during the dinner. Please don’t forget to bring a new, unwrapped toy(s). On a more serious note, one of our members, Duane “Smoke” Daily, passed away November 16th. Duane was an airline pilot for the military, then commercial, and then private. His wife Lana is also a member of our club. He will be greatly missed. For those of you I won’t see at the Christmas Party next week, have a Merry Christmas and Safe & New Year. Keep your eyes open for upcoming events; there are a lot of exciting things planned for 2013! Sincerely, Debra Clover [1] President MODESTO SKI CLUB LODGE NEWS Greetings! Well, we made it through the Thanksgiving weekend. I am so glad we had enough snow at that time for members to take advantage of the Lodge and ski in the North Shore area. Northstar has some of the best coverage, FYI, since they have great snow making ability. December is here and we are waiting for more snow. We sure are catching up on rain! As I am writing this article on Sunday Dec. 2, we had rain today like I haven’t seen in awhile. Just a reminder, if you are on the Race Team, check out the schedule at www.olrc.org, to see which weekends you are going to race. Be sure to send me you request via email to secure a spot for you to stay at the Lodge during the race weekends! Be sure to lock all windows and slider doors when not at the lodge during your stay and be sure to keep out of sight, any electronic items on the tables or in view of the windows from the deck. Don’t leave any reason for someone to break into the Lodge to take anything that may have value. When leaving the Lodge after your stay, be sure to close windows and lock them as well as close the blinds in the room or area you have been staying in. Please contact me if the lodge needs attention or if any supplies are needed. Call me at home or send an email to me. Thanks in advance for your help with the Lodge. • Executive Director's Report 2014
Executive Director’s Report 2014 Annual Meeting of Player Representatives While the 2013-14 season was not without its share of challenges for the Association, I can look back and unequivocally state that it was a “results-driven” year. The Winter Olympics provided opportunity for a significant number of former PHPA Members, as well as an opportunity for nine (9) players from our current membership base. With a number of AHL affiliates (7) playing games in the facility of their NHL Parent Club, it provided an opportunity for NHL fans to watch the next generation of NHL players, while providing our Members with an unforgettable experience. For the first time in my 33 years with the Association, I was sued, by the former Owners of the Central Hockey League (CHL). In doing my job protecting players’ rights in the CHL, and with very important health issues involving a player’s wife and player’s child, the former Owners felt that Allen and Rapid City were looking to leave the CHL for the ECHL due to my efforts in protecting the Membership. While the lawsuit is still pending between the CHL’s former Owners and the ECHL, the case against me was dismissed. During the off season, the CHL was purchased by current CHL Owners, with Wichita’s Ownership owning both Wichita and Tulsa, while the Missouri Mavericks assumed ownership of the recently folded St. Charles Chill franchise. The Wichita Ownership group recently added yet another franchise, with their purchase of the Allen Americans. This situation will be reviewed as it could present some issues in the CHL for PHPA Members going forward.

With the relocation of the Abbotsford Heat (now Adirondack Flames) and the Adirondack Phantoms (now Lehigh Valley Phantoms), the AHL realigned the league. The Flames will be play in the North Division and the Phantoms will be playing in the East Division. The Syracuse Crunch moved from the East Division to the Northeast Division. Lake Erie moved from the North Division to the Midwest Division and the Iowa Wild moved from the Midwest to the West Division. Additionally, the NHL and AHL have discussed moving teams west in order to accommodate the NHL's western franchises.
