December Volume 110 December 2012 President’s Message Dear MSC Members; Ski Season is now upon us. I had a wonderful weekend at the Lodge Thanksgiving weekend. I took the opportunity of the early snow and went skiing with my two older granddaughters at North Star. They skied until it closed. It was a lot of fun even though we only skied on the green runs for the day.

Talking about the Lodge I want to remind everyone to do their part when they are there; not only clean up after yourself, but pick a maintenance chore from the clip board and do it. If everyone does this, we will have a COM . sparkling clean Lodge for the entire winter season; so do not forget to make your reservations as soon as possible! Race season starts in January and the sooner you put your name on the list the better your chances are of getting to stay at the Lodge, not only on off race weekends, but also when there is availability on race weekends. Guests can be booked or added to your reservations on Non-race weekends up to 60 days before the stay and 30 days before the stay for Holiday Weekends. MODESTOSKICLUB . Renewal time is coming to end. We have several of you “lagging” on

WWW getting those Liability Forms signed and turned in with your Dues/Renewal Fees. Remember; until your have turned in both of these, you will not be able to stay at the Lodge as a member or reserve a key.

Next Wednesday is our Christmas Dinner Meeting at the Fruit Yard. There is detailed information inside the news letter. We are having full DJ Music by Clarence Teem (our own member) and yes we are going to dance. Cheryl has lots of things planned to do during the dinner. Please don’t forget to bring a new, unwrapped toy(s).

On a more serious note, one of our members, Duane “Smoke” Daily, passed away November 16th. Duane was an airline pilot for the military, then commercial, and then private. His wife Lana is also a member of our club. He will be greatly missed.

For those of you I won’t see at the Christmas Party next week, have a Merry Christmas and Safe & New Year. Keep your eyes open for upcoming events; there are a lot of exciting things planned for 2013! Sincerely, Debra Clover [1] President MODESTO SKI CLUB LODGE NEWS

Greetings! Well, we made it through the Thanksgiving weekend. I am so glad we had enough snow at that time for members to take advantage of the Lodge and ski in the North Shore area. Northstar has some of the best coverage, FYI, since they have great snow making ability. December is here and we are waiting for more snow. We sure are catching up on rain! As I am writing this article on Sunday Dec. 2, we had rain today like I haven’t seen in awhile. Just a reminder, if you are on the Race Team, check out the schedule at www.olrc.org, to see which weekends you are going to race. Be sure to send me you request via email to secure a spot for you to stay at the Lodge during the race weekends! Be sure to lock all windows and slider doors when not at the lodge during your stay and be sure to keep out of sight, any electronic items on the tables or in view of the windows from the deck. Don’t leave any reason for someone to break into the Lodge to take anything that may have value. When leaving the Lodge after your stay, be sure to close windows and lock them as well as close the blinds in the room or area you have been staying in. Please contact me if the lodge needs attention or if any supplies are needed. Call me at home or send an email to me. Thanks in advance for your help with the Lodge.

MSC Snow Mobile Trip March 28 – 30, 2012

Book now! This trip is sure to be fun and very memorable. We will enjoy a 2-hour snow mobile trip and experience the backcountry magic of winter. Our experienced tour guides will insure plenty of fun for everyone, from the most experienced to the novices in our group. There will be plenty of opportunity to enjoy the groomed trails, fresh powder and breath taking scenery. After the trip, we will return to the lodge where will enjoy a cioppino-style dinner. (No, not exactly cioppino, but hearty, delicious and perfect after a day in the snow.) Most of us will arrive at the MSC Lodge on the 28th. Our trip is scheduled for 1:00 pm on Friday, March 29th so if you need to come up the morning of the 29th, that will work too! (March 29th is Good Friday) COST: $130 per person (This covers the cost of the snow mobile rental and your dinner.) You will need to book and pay for your lodging with Michelle Nightengale separately. IMPORTANT: I need to know as soon as possible if you plan on attending. I have pre-booked 10 snow mobiles for us (they can accommodate up to 20). BUT, they will book up fast after January 1st, 2013. We need to pre-pay for the snow mobiles. Please, do not delay in getting back to me with your reservations and your checks! To reserve a spot, please RSVP to Pam Shelton at: [email protected] or 209-541-5447
