The first wheelie bin of Glebe gear was sent to Maningrida College in the Northern Territory, where the council decided to use the packs of bags, balls, hats and water bottles to support a girl’s AFL trip to Darwin. A great initiative we hope to see continue in 2018. Of course there have been the many events that have brought our community together over the year. Who could forget the jumper presentation under the marquees in the rain, the beer appreciation night, the networking event at club sponsor Eakin McCaffery Cox, grand finalist BBQs, presentation day and the volunteer thank you party? Thanks to everyone involved in the organisation of these events, in particular Luke McDougall and Mike Cooney. There are an army of people who need thanking, but I’ll never fit everyone in so hopefully I get the big ones. To our gold sponsors Belle Property Glebe and Eakin McCaffery Cox, and silver sponsors Young Henrys, SupaMart, Harris Farm, Homebod and Coffee Roasters, thank you. Everything seemed to grow: our numbers swelled to record highs with all age groups closing for the first time; we sent more teams than ever to participate in Auskick at the Swans’ and local senior games; and our Auskick girls’ numbers were phenomenal. It’s so exciting to be part of an amazing program. Here’s what we did for 2017 …… • 25 March: We kicked off with the U8 half-time Auskick at the SCG (Swans v Power), with Cain Sarah taking two teams • 30 March: We endured the wettest pre-season ever, including our annual jumper presentation in torrential rain • 1 April: Rd1 at Maroubra and the sun finally came out (and for pretty much every week thereafter) • 7 April: Rd2 at Jubilee with our new Auskickers getting a taste for running through the Greyhounds banner to “Up There Cazaly” • 4 May: Kicking guru Tim Schmidt took our Auskick parents through Kicking Dynamics, a great first-time initiative to teach our parents the skills to practice with their kids at home • 4 May: Balmain Tigers senior SFL club came down to help out at training • 26 May: Our Aboriginal Auskick kids participated in the AFL Indigenous Round at the SCG (Swans v Hawks) • 27 May: Mike Schofield and David Sawkins took an U7 team to play half-time at the Pemulwuy Shield Indigenous Round at Mahoney Park • 1 June: Kieran Jack came for the annual Swans visit • 8 June: Jason Upcroft and David Sawkins took two U8 teams for half-time Auskick at the Grand Final replay at the SCG (Swans v Bulldogs).
