The first wheelie bin of Glebe gear was sent to Maningrida College in the Northern Territory, where the council decided to use the packs of bags, balls, hats and water bottles to support a girl’s AFL trip to Darwin. A great initiative we hope to see continue in 2018. Of course there have been the many events that have brought our community together over the year. Who could forget the jumper presentation under the marquees in the rain, the beer appreciation night, the networking event at club sponsor Eakin McCaffery Cox, grand finalist BBQs, presentation day and the volunteer thank you party? Thanks to everyone involved in the organisation of these events, in particular Luke McDougall and Mike Cooney. There are an army of people who need thanking, but I’ll never fit everyone in so hopefully I get the big ones. We have attracted 13 Clubs/18 teams to this tournament and we thank you for this dynamic demonstration of the growing strength of Women’s AFL community. The Challenge was developed in response to the identified need for clubs to secure competitive pre-season trial games; to test new players and provide a real game environment beyond clubs internal training. Clubs are also seeking to build the capacity and skills of volunteers for club game day officials by providing game day training and experience. We have been supported in the development of this project by AFL Sydney. For 2019 we have chosen the AFLX format to ensure maximum participation with two fields and two pools operating on the day. The Breakaways designed the Challenge event as a Carnival & Clubs Picnic to encourage comradery amongst the women’s clubs and players while still engaging in competitive football. We encourage teams to spread the story about women’s AFL. Use the promotional material with your club logo and bring you friends, team mates and support your team - bring a marquee, picnic and picnic rugs - enjoy the day.

OFFICIAL PUBLICATION OF THE WAFL $3.00 EDITION 1 APRIL 2, 2021 INTRODUCING THE 2021 Optus WAFL Premiership Season They say a week is a long time in footy, but this past 12 months has felt nothing short of an eternity for football across the country. It’s been exactly 382 days since the WAFL was stopped in its tracks on the eve of the 2020 campaign by COVID-19, thus beginning the slogan of a ‘season like no other.’ The competition stopped then started but looked entirely different; 16-minute quarters, a nine-round season and a top four finals series. It was WAFL football, but not as we knew it. Fortunately, unlike most other State Leagues, the WAFL was able to complete a season, with the undoubted highlight taking place in the last game of the year. 10,000 fans packed Fremantle Community Bank Oval to witness a fitting Grand Final between South Fremantle and Claremont. The arm wrestle of a contest thrilled spectators and fans around the state, with the Bulldogs finishing three-point victors and deserved Premiers. We arrive at the beginning of the 2021 Optus WAFL Season with renewed optimism. The competition returns to 20 rounds. Quarters change back to 20 minutes plus time on. The five best teams will battle it out in the WAFL Finals Series. And the West Coast Eagles return to the u Keegan Knott competition. Firstly the AGM in May was supported by a strong showing of members to hear the 2016 Annual Report delivered by President Graeme Johnson and Treasurer, Fred Bayne. Andrew Cannon, chair of the Finance & Donations Committee provided a summary of activities for the year, highlighting contributions to the Victorian Institute for Sport and Disabled Sport & Rec, both long term beneficiaries of Carbine Club funded programs. Representatives from both organisations were present by invitation. CC member Nicole Livingstone did a great job with her interviews of Annabel Smith, Bronze medalist in diving at Rio and Richard Amon, CEO of Disabled Sport & Rec, who related how the support by CC gave many young people the chance to participate and be recognised in their sporting endeavours. A good lunch was followed by the irrepressible Leon Wiegard doing the rounds of the room chatting with several present, much to the enjoyment of all. A hectic month of preparation for the Annual Delegates meeting & Annual Dinner followed, the former highlighted by the launch of the new CC website, incorporating online facilities for all Clubs. There was also much positive discussion and information exchange by all delegates, giving a clear impression that the “Spirit of Carbine” was alive and well.
