***************************************************************************************************** Don’t look very far when you hear today’s gospel speak of , sorrow, or exclusion. These things happen in families. Children feel “insulted” when they are constantly criticized. Spouses “hunger” for affection. Grandparents feel “excluded” by divorce and custody decisions. Parents “weep” because they feel alienated from their children. *********************************************************************************************** Mass Schedule

*********************************************************************************************** "Saint of the Week" St. (69-156), of Earaches, Feast day is February 23rd. Imagine being able to sit at the feet of the apostles and hear their stories of life with Jesus from their own lips and walking with those who had walked with Jesus, seen him, and touched him. Polycarp did this as a of St. . Being part of the second generation of Church leaders had challenges that the first generation could not teach about. With the apostles gone, sprang up pretending to be true teaching, persecution was strong, and controversies arose over how to celebrate liturgy that Jesus never laid down rules for. Polycarp, as a holy man and bishop of Smyrna, found there was only one answer - to be true to the life of Jesus and imitate that life. His own church admired him for following the "gospel model" - not chasing after martyrdom as some did, but avoiding it until it was God's will as Jesus did, considering it "a sign of love to desire not to save oneself alone, but to save also all the Christian brothers and sisters." The fire was lit as Polycarp said "Amen" and then the eyewitnesses who reported said they saw a miracle. The fire burst up in an arch around Polycarp and instead of being burned he seemed to glow like bread baking, or gold being melted in a furnace. When the captors saw he wasn't being burned, they stabbed him. His quote: "Hear me declare with boldness, I am a Christian."

"Due to the excessive number of school days that have been cancelled for inclement weather this winter, St. Anthony's School (Preschool through 8th grades) WILL be in session Monday, February 18th." A Note From Father David......

Dear St. Anthony Family,

In this week’s Gospel, we hear Luke’s version of The Beatitudes telling us that we are Blessed when we are Poor, Hungry, and persecuted as we suffer for the sake of God and his Word. Being Poor along with all of the other “afflictions” mentioned in this Gospel doesn’t seem to be anything that we would want to embrace, and yet we know that our rewards are mostly in Heaven. We know that the pain and suffering endured in this world is nothing compared to what we receive as our “Just Reward” in Heaven. However, to embrace this fact, even though we know it to be true, is very hard to “Live Out”. We are sometimes so “Beat Down” by our circumstances, many times beyond our control, that it takes a strong Faith and an ability to “Roll with the Punches” to survive. Jesus tells us that those who live lives of excess and gluttony are having their reward in the present while those who struggle have “Served Their Time” and await redemption and reward for their Faithfulness. I pray that we can avoid the temptation of an easy life and are satisfied with our needs for the basic while saving our Souls for The Profound.
