JANE FRANCES DE CHANTAL CHURCH MAY 2, 2021 EASTON, PENNSYLVANIA My Dear Parishioners, May is the month when we traditionally turn to the figure of the Blessed Virgin Mary. It is her month. We create shrines in her honor; we recite prayers for her intercession, we celebrate her in private and public devotion. She is the Immaculate Conception, the Mother of Jesus, and the Help of Sinners. On the cross, our Lord Saturday, May 1—Saint Joseph the Jesus himself gave her to us as our mother, our Worker patroness, our protector. While we do not accord 9:00 John Clifford Mary the same devotion of adoration that we give Vigil: May 1—Fifth Sunday of Easter to God, she is nonetheless the first among all the 5:00 Robert Wiertz saints, our intercessor to whom we pray and offer Sunday, May 2—Fifth Sunday of Easter homage. 8:00 Robert “Bob” Hugelmeyer 10:00 Vincent & Sophie Speciale This devotion to Mary is deeply rooted in our 12:00 Janet Ullmer Catholic faith. From the earliest centuries, the Monday, May 3—Saints Philip & James Church has always reflected on the place of the 6:30 John Leskosky Blessed Mother in the history of salvation. It has 8:15 James & Margaret McCormick also turned to Our Lady in song and prayer, in de- and Family voted affection and fidelity. She is, after all, our Tuesday, May 4—Easter Weekday spiritual mother who guards and protects us. We 6:30 James Kaschak, Sr. know that we can turn to her often, and that she 8:15 Martin Purcell always listens to her children who call upon her. Wednesday, May 5—Easter Weekday 6:30 MaryAnn McCarthy Mary prepares us for the gift of salvation by 8:15 Peg Muretta & Family (Mass for pointing the way to Jesus her Son. To honor Mary the Living) is to find ourselves moving ever closer to Jesus. Thursday, May 6—Easter Weekday As we pray to her, our hopes and desires find their (National Day of Prayer) fulfillment in the Heart of her Son. When we strive 6:30 Donald E. Vandenburgh to imitate her virtue, we open our lives to the Savior 8:15 Ildefonso Raymundo she herself bore into this world. An old Latin Friday, May 7—Easter Weekday 6:30 Members of St. Jane’s phrase put this thought concisely: “Ad Iesum per Memorial Society Mariam” (“to Jesus through Mary”). Whenever we 8:15 Giuseppina Brescia turn to Mary in prayer, contemplation or imitation, Saturday, May 8—Easter Weekday we come to Jesus himself. 9:00 The Priests & Staff at St. Jane’s (Mass for the Living) During this month of May, we once again direct Vigil: May 8—Sixth Sunday of Easter our thoughts and prayers to Mary our Mother. We 5:00 Michael Foster praise her in song, we look to her virtue, and we Sunday, May 9—Sixth Sunday of Easter plead for her intercessory aid. May Mary always 8:00 Mother’s Day Intentions come to our aid and shield us in her loving care and 10:00 Mother’s Day Intentions protection! 12:00 Mother’s Day Intentions Sincerely, Monsignor Radocha FIFTH SUNDAY OF EASTER Procedures for Sunday Mass: 1.) St. Irenaeus Parish, Park Forest, Illinois August 9, 2020 Nineteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time Renew My Church: Our Own Discipleship We have a mission: “Go, therefore, and make disciples of all nations… Teach them to carry out everything I have commanded you and know that I am with you always, until the end of the world” (Mt 28:19-20). This is the Great Commission that Christ gave His apostles. And He gives us this mission today as something to accomplish together. An important element to achieving our mission is understanding what we’re facing today. In an earlier article, I noted some of the reasons why renewal is needed, not the least of which is a steady decline in faith practices that stretches back decades. There are many issues that people cite as a catalyst for leaving the Church or lapsing in their faith. The pain and suffering of the abuse crisis and failure in leadership amongst some has been reason enough for some to walk away or refrain from (re)entering. There are also the age-old allurements and noon-day devils that cause people to drift away from the faith of their youth. And there are also issues and challenges of a personal nature that only God can see within people’s hearts. But there are also people that leave the Church not because they reject her teachings or doctrines or even because of the scandals – they leave because they want more than what they’re experiencing. In some way, they doubt that Jesus is present within their own parish.

“What page, what passage of the inspired books of the Old and New Testaments is not the truest of guides for human life?” ~Saint Benedict, from the Rule of Saint Benedict (73:3) "A person who governs his passions is the master of the world. We must either rule them, or be ruled by them. It is better to be the hammer than the anvil. " --Saint Dominic Monday, August 8 ~ Nineteenth Week in Ordinary Time Saint Dominic, Priest; Founder, Order of Preachers (Dominicans) Holy Gospel: Matthew 17:22-27 As Jesus and his disciples were gathering in Galilee, Jesus said to them, “The Son of Man is to be handed over to men, and they will kill him, and he will be raised on the third day.” And they were overwhelmed with grief. When they came to Capernaum, the collectors of the temple tax approached Peter and said, “Does not your teacher pay the temple tax?” “Yes,” he said. When he came into the house, before he had time to speak, Jesus asked him, “What is your opinion, Simon? From whom do the kings of the earth take tolls or census tax? From their subjects or from foreigners?” When he said, “From foreigners,” Jesus said to him, “Then the subjects are exempt. But that we may not offend them, go to the sea, drop in a hook, and take the first fish that comes up. Open its mouth and you will find a coin worth twice the temple tax. Give that to them for me and for you.” Meditation: On three different occasions the Gospels record that Jesus’ prediction that he would endure great suffering through betrayal, rejection, and the punishment of a cruel death.
