NATIONAL VOLUNTEERING 18–24 JANUARY WEEK 2021 REPORT Contents Overview Thoughts from Leaders Journey thus far Highlights of the week Corporate participation NVW 2021 statistics NVW 2021 footprint Social media dashboard Social media highlights Partners Way ahead Calendar of activities NATIONAL VOLUNTEERING WEEK 2021 4 NATIONAL VOLUNTEERING WEEK 2021 Overview Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) a collective of businesses through its in- stitution India@75 Foundation has been working on a nation-building agenda for over a decade. In 2008, CII evolved a vision for the nation through a pan India consultative process called ‘India@75 – The People’s Agenda’. It embarked on an industry-led movement to achieve the vision objective of an inclusively developed India by the year 2022 by focusing on seven growth areas. It entailed Industry collaborating both internally and with different stakeholder groups to synergize their efforts and align the same with national priorities to accentuate the process set by the Government of India. At the core of India@75’s vision is collaboration and people’s participation. Volun- teering is an enabler for both. National Volunteering Week (NVW) was instituted in 2014, held from 18 to 24 January every year and since then it has grown from strength to strength. It is an effort to showcase volunteering as a simple and most powerful form of multi-stakeholder collaboration that can be pivotal in addressing some of the most critical gaps in the country’s development agenda. Every year, non-profits, academic institutions, corporates, other organization from across the country come together to organize activities specifically for this week.

  • THE ROLE of INDIAN RELIGIOUS INSTITUTIONS in CLOSING the ENERGY ACCESS GAP Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam the World Is One Family
THE ROLE OF INDIAN RELIGIOUS INSTITUTIONS IN CLOSING THE ENERGY ACCESS GAP Vasudhaiva kutumbakam The world is one family Introduction The climate crisis demands that the world move away from fossil fuels and adopt renewable energy solutions with unsurpassed speed and at unsurpassed scale. To date, the Indian government has provided important leadership in adopting renewable energy solutions and moving away from fossil fuels. Its national commitment to installing 175 gigawatts of solar and wind energy by 2022 and its inception of the International Solar Alliance to mobilise technology and finance are two examples of how India is addressing this issue. However, despite the Indian government announcing in April 2018 that every village in the country had been electrified, over 200 million people in India still lack access to electricity. This energy poverty has devastating impacts on community health, education, and economic growth. Cooking without clean energy inflicts severe respiratory illnesses on countless women and children, causing over 100,000 premature child deaths in India on an annual basis. Without reliable electricity, children cannot study after dark, vaccines cannot be stored, and jobs are not created. In India, the issues of energy access and climate change are inextricably linked. If the 200 million people in India without access to electricity receive their energy from clean renewable sources, India will make a vital and positive contribution to the struggle against climate change. This report represents a first step in exploring how the country’s large and diverse religious sector can play an important role in addressing these two interconnected challenges. Indian religious and spiritual institutions command significant moral authority and have a large civil society presence.

www.bhumi.org.in [email protected] 13/4, Cenotaph Road First Lane, Teynampet, Chennai – 600018 Change Today … Change Tomorrow 9 February 2014 Ms. Sridevi Prasad Project Coordinator Asha for Education Berkeley Chapter San Francisco, USA Respected Ms. Sridevi, Subject: Seeking your support for our supplementary educational programmes for underprivileged children Bhumi is one of India’s largest independent youth volunteer non-profit organisations. Our volunteers work amongst orphaned and underprivileged children in Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Maharashtra, Rajasthan, New Delhi and other parts of the country. As we step into the next academic year, we seek support for our programmes that will benefit around 15,000 children across India. As a growing non-profit organisation striving towards the socio-economic conditions of our country with the energy and enthusiasm of a young and focussed volunteering team, we would be grateful if you could read through the attached proposal and help us take a positive step towards the cause. Thanking you, Yours sincerely, Vaishnavi Srinivasan Executive Director Executive Summary Bhumi volunteers educate orphaned and underprivileged children with the vision to help build a more influential, equal and socially conscious society. We are currently operational in Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Maharashtra, Rajasthan and New Delhi and our programmes are expected to benefit over 12,000 children in over 170 centres. Various reforms and awareness initiated have contributed to the rapid growth of the educational sector in India in the last few decades. Yet, children in orphanages, slums and village communities continue to have a little or no access to quality education. Over time, this creates a large gap and irreparable damage to their holistic development.
