FAVERMANN DESIGN TOWN OF FOXBOROUGH COMMUNITY BRANDING & WAYFINDING PROJECT FINAL REPORT WINTER 2018-2019 Prepared by Favermann Design Prepared for the Department of Housing and Community Development (DHCD) MASSACHUSETTS DOWNTOWN INITIATIVE Until the early 1900s, Foxborough was composed of small neighbor- hood communities. These included Foxvale/Paineburgh; Quaker Hill in South Foxborough; and Lakeview/Donkeyville in West Foxborough. They remained semi-independent until the early twentieth century. In 1850, as the Town became more prosperous and industrious, the Foxborough Fire Company was formed. By now, the straw hat industry had spread throughout the community and in 1853, the world’s largest Vintage photo of Central Street straw hat factory, Union Straw Works, was built on Wall Street by local businessman E.P. Carpenter. The population of Foxborough neared 3,000 with hundreds more living in boarding houses provided by local manufacturers. The Town of Foxborough was thriving. In 1857, the Town beautified the “downtown” area by laying out the Town Common as it exists today. The unique fence surrounding the Common was cast at Cary Foundry on Mill Street in Foxborough. The Town House, a magnif- icent structure built to house town offices and later a public high school, was built nearby on the current site of the Town Hall. The Civil War would be a time to test the young community, which would be called on to bury twenty one of its sons as a result of the conflict. Deciding on a “suitable monument,” the community erected Vintage photo of Foxboro Company Memorial Hall in the town center as a tribute “to all those whose lives were touched by the war.”1 BACKGROUND AND HISTORY After the Civil War, prosperity returned to town.

FAMILY GUY: TEXTUAL DEVICES AND MASCULINE VICES by CARSON JUSTINE KLOSTERMAN MARTIN (Under the Direction of Christine Harold) ABSTRACT As the first animated situation comedy to be “uncancelled” due to its record breaking DVD sales, Family Guy is one in several contemporary animated sitcoms attracting a predominantly male audience. This project explores the attraction of this crude, politically incorrect satire of American suburbia to nineteen to thirty-four year old males. By exposing strategies of intertextuality and self-reflexivity, this project reveals that audiences are rewarded for media saturation. Further, in continuing a tradition of television portrayals of working-class men as foolish, childish, and unmanly, Peter Griffin’s character invites the audience to mock working-class stereotypes while simultaneously solidifying their subordinate status. This project attempts to add to the current discussion of animated situation comedy as well and working-class media representations. Journal of Physics Special Topics P3 8 Saving Springfield D. Worthy, R. Garner, J. Gregory and J. Taylor-Ashley Department of Physics and Astronomy, University of Leicester. Leicester, LE1 7RH. 3 November 2013 Abstract The Simpsons Movie concludes with Homer saving the day by riding a motorcycle on the inside of a glass dome and throwing a bomb out of the hole at the top. This paper considers the centripetal force involved along with the loxodrome path and determines whether he has enough time to throw the bomb. It is concluded that Homers apparent loxodromic path up the dome is the correct path to reach the top within the time limit. However this requires a speed of 188ms−1, much higher than the land speed record for a motorcycle. Introduction which spirals to the peak of the sphere, as in figure (1).
