Cazenovia Lake Ice Fishing Safety Chart

Clear ice with a bluish tint is strongest. White ice, or “snow ice,” is about half as strong as new, clear ice. Double the thickness guidelines if you are traveling on white ice. · Pack a pair of ice picks. Attach these to a long cord. Screwdrivers work, too. If you fall into the water, you can pull yourself out using the picks. Tip: Use a wood-handled ice pick. If it falls into the water, it will not sink as quick- ly as a metal-handled pick.

· Bring a lifejacket. If you break through while walking on ice, a life jacket can provide flotation and protection against hypothermia. Do not wear a flotation device when traveling in an enclosed vehicle. Ice safety tips for walk- ing, fishing, driving and Wear brightly-colored clothing. Think & Drink Thurs Winter Wine Happy Hour

Our over-the-air radio signal can reach about 500,000 people in CNY. We also have many regular listeners in a lot of other parts of the US as well as a lot of listeners all over the world who appreciate quality music. They also appreciate quality goods and services so I steer them, over the radio, to the GCACC Newsletters which tell them about the stuff that's available around here. I said last month that I was going to talk about jazz a little this month. Remember Marty Grosz said: “I've been playing this music for 65 years and yet I can't describe it.” And neither can I. A friend for forty years was the artist David X. Young. He was the founder of what became known to a few million people as “The Jazz Loft” at 28th and 6th in NYC, in 1950. I met him on Cape Cod where he lived in his summer studio up over the gas station in Orleans, MA. Dave had very interesting gatherings there and of course in NYC. Through him I met many of he well-known BeBop jazz players who were making a name for themselves. He leased 3 floors for his 6th

Ave studio in 1950, rewired the place and sublet some of it. Some went to his friend Hall Overton who was on the staff at Julliard. Between the two of them, they knew everybody in jazz. I have referred to Dave Young many times since I started broadcasting jazz in 2006 over the air (OTA). He was the founder of the so-called 'Jazz Loft' (see 'Doubletake' magazine Fall of 1999) and the guy who introduced me to Dave McKenna, who played often at the Captain Linnel House in Orleans on the Cape. Through Dave Young, I also met many of the Bop guys including , Jim Raney, , T. Monk, , , Bill Crowe, Bob (with whom I kept up lengthy phone conversations after he moved to NH. I did the same with McKenna after he couldn't play any more.), , , , , Kenny Davern, et al. Some were Bop,etc. and some were traditional, and everything in between. I've heard most of the countless earlier styles in jazz before bop, but the Bop and 'progressive' broadcasters at colleges don't tell you about earlier styles. I don't air any Bop (Bop musicians play mostly for themselves). Nonetheless, Dave and I tried to rescue 1600 reel to reel tapes that were recorded at Dave's studio on a Webcor recorder that his father gave him. I did find out with 5 years of broadcasting at colleges, that what most people like the best is hot and sweet authentic jazz. People all over the world like this sound. But it has to be authentic and played well. Anyone can usually tell how well just by listening. You don't have to know anything about real jazz in order to enjoy it. Try it out on WVOA 87.7 FM Thursdays 5-7 PM. That is a 'brokered' radio station so don't be deterred by other programmer's logos. Just click through all that to “Roger's List”. There is a list but no commo on face book. Let me know what you think at [email protected]. Thanks.
