Chesapeake Bayhawks Lacrosse 3 Game 1: Chesapeake @ Dallas game notes The Matchup Chesapeake will start on the road for the 2019 season in Frisco, Texas against the Rattlers . Although last year’s final score against Dallas wasn’t what Bayhawks fans hoped for, Chesapeake’s additions in the collegiate and supplemental drafts, as well as other off-season acquisitions, could help them move past the Rattlers this year . Furthermore, Dallas has lost parts of top-tier talent which could tip the scale in favor of the Bayhawks . Jordan Wolf, Ned Crotty, and Ty Thompson – with their 115 combined points, and 8 goals against the Bayhawks – have all departed, leaving a void for Dallas . One of the league’s elite talents returns for Chesapeake in Colin Heacock . Last season the attackman scored 2 in last year’s matchup . Chesapeake had the edge in faceoffs, winning 15 of the 28 draws, and hope that new FOGOs Kenny Massa and Eric O’Brien can dominate in this phase of the game . Joining the Flock Over the offseason, the Bayhawks have added to their talent pool with a series of Disbursement Drafts . While the Bayhawks selected several players who can bolster their depth, there are others who Head Coach Dave Cottle hopes can make an immediate impact . A New York native and faceoff man, Kenny Massa, produced a strong career at Bryant University . Upon graduation, Massa was ranked fourth in the nation with a 686. faceoff percentage as well as second in groundballs per game with 11 .33 . His totals of 394 groundballs and 656 faceoff wins throughout his 67-game career puts him third in program history . Massa transitioned to the MLL with ease in 2018 . As a member of the , the FOGO finished with a 478. (108-226) faceoff percentage, placing him fourth all-time in Machine franchise history for a single-season . Massa hopes to fill this crucial need for Chesapeake and drive offense from the X . Joining the ‘Hawks from Charlotte is the 6’3” midfielder, Adam Osika . The U Albany graduate finished with 22 goals, 10 assists, and 15 ground balls which earned him America East All-Conference First Team honors his senior season . The defensive-minded midfielder finished last season with 9 games played and improving his shooting percentage to .545 . Joining the Bayhawks in Annapolis, Osika hopes to be a strong two-way player, much like positional counterpart Matt Abbott . Rounding out this trio of selections is former fourth overall MLL draft pick, Nick Mariano . Mariano joins the Bayhawks from the and looks to slide right into Cottle’s first line of midfielders on offense . Scoring 23 goals in 14 games in 2018, the Syracuse-grad improved on a strong rookie season and placed 12th in scoring amongst all midfields in the league . The lefty-midfielder and pure goal-scorer has high expectations in Chesapeake, but Mariano is a player who is poised to surpass them . “Hey, Rookie!” Draft guru and Head Coach Dave Cottle, has assembled a roster of incredibly talented young players . Though only one player on the opening night roster is playing in their first year of league eligibility (Zac Prattson), there are several other first-year players looking to make a name for themselves . Kyle Tucker saw a lot of action in the 2019 pre-season . Between practices and league scrimmages, it was clear that Coach Cottle wanted to see what the DIII NCAA Champion and 2018 MLL Draft selection had in his tank . Playing against tough competition on Dallas and Denver in pre-season scrimmages, “KT” won a roster spot amidst a deep competition at defense . Tucker looks to be a starter or the first defenseman off the bench against Dallas . Zac Prattson is one of the Bayhawks’ newest acquistions, joining the team as recently as June 28th via the MLL’s final Disbursement Draft . Assistant Coach Tom Mariano keyed in on Prattson, a Le Moyne College Dolphin, as a player who could make an immediate impact for the ‘Hawks . The strong defenseman will join the team in Dallas as he anticipates making his rookie debut . A Burlington, Ontario native, Colton Watkinson was a relative unknown entering training camp . A DIII NCAA Champion from Limestone College and defensive midfielder in the NLL, Watkinson made his presence known through selfless play, strong attention to the two-way game, and strong offensive instincts . Scoring four goals in Chesapeake’s pre-season scrimmage against Denver, including a beautiful one-handed diving goal, Watkinson makes the Bayhawks’ opening roster as a first-year midfielder hoping to prove that he is more than a defensive specialist . These three players are joined by draft pick Ryan Hursey who hopes to contribute as an SSDM . Rookies Matt Borges, Garrett Michaeli, Warren Jeffrey, and Max Edelmann highlight the Bayhawks’ College Inactive List as players who can contribute in the near future . Recent acquisition from Syracuse, Brendan Bomberry, will join the team in Dallas as he hopes to make his MLL debut .
