Boston Cannons Game Notes WEEK FIVE PREVIEW: DENVER OUTLAWS AT BOSTON CANNONS Page 7

Where: Veterans Memorial Stadium (Quincy, MA) Who: Denver Outlaws vs Boston Cannons When: Saturday June 29, 5:02 PM Watch: NBC Sports Boston

QUINCY, MA - As the MLL schedule turns to Week Five, the Boston Cannons are pleased with the way they've started the 2019 season. They are off to a 3-0 start for the second time in team history and sit atop the MLL standings. But the Cannons aren't going to sit on recent wins for too long. The Denver Outlaws come to town this weekend, which will be another test for this rising Cannons squad.

Last week, the Cannons beat the 18-11 in a rock-solid team performance. Mark Cockerton and Connor O'Hara each tallied four goals to lead the way offensively, while the defense unit once again came up big in an impressive showing. Defenseman James Leary was effective in his coverage of Lizards attackman , holding the star attackman to two goals. Furthermore, Kevin Reisman went 15-for-32 at the faceoff-X, and goaltender Nick Marrocco enjoyed another solid outing in the cage, stopping nine of 20 shots.

"He's phenomenal," said Cannons Head Coach Sean Quirk of Marrocco. "The guy is unbelievable stopping the ball, and he gets that transition game going really well [for us]."

The Outlaws last played on June 8 in Atlanta, where they knocked off the Blaze 18-16. Zach Currier and Kyle Killen each registered a hat-trick, and midfielder Mike Schlosser posted two goals. Dillon Ward has started all three games thus far for Denver, making a combined 36 saves on 63 shots. Faceoff-specialist Max Adler won 17-of-36 faceoffs against the Blaze's Alex Woodall to help lead the Outlaws to the win.

The Cannons and Outlaws met just one-time last season in a July 4 matchup at Mile High Stadium, with Boston suffering a tough 25-11 loss. However, it's a new year and a new season. The Cannons look completely different and are building more and more momentum each week. Saturday's game against Denver will be a tough test for the Cannons, who are hoping to move to 4-0 on the season.

The Outlaws, currently fourth in the league with a 2-1 record, have a busy week ahead of them. They will host the on Thursday before traveling to Boston on Saturday. Playing two games in three days will certainly be a challenge, but with the chance to pick up two wins and improve to 4-1, containing the Outlaws isn't going to be easy.

The Cannons will continue to roll with Will Sands, Cockerton, and O'Hara at attack, and the trio is emerging as the most productive unit in the league with 50 combined goals. It also seems the Cannons have found a midfield line that clicks with Kyle Jackson, Challen Rogers, and Zed Williams.

On the defensive side of things, the Cannons have to hold their ground against a talented Denver offense, which is anchored by Currier and MLL legend John Grant Jr. It's likely the Cannons deploy the same short-stick midfield unit with Matt Bertrams, Tim Edwards, and Zach Goodrich, which has been very consistent thus far. Rookie long- stick midfielder Ryland Rees continues to gel alongside the veteran P.T. Ricci, while James Fahey has been steady in his role at close defense.

The faceoff battle will be something to keep an eye on this weekend. Reisman is improving each game and has been a bright spot early on for Boston. Adler, on the other hand, is a three-year veteran and one of the most efficient specialists in the league. However, their stat lines are not very far off from each other. Reisman's gone 44-for-86 in three games, while Adler's won 43-of-72. Every faceoff is a battle, but there's something about this matchup that makes it an interesting story to follow come Saturday.

The Cannons and Outlaws faceoff at 5pm this Saturday from Veterans Memorial Stadium in Quincy. You can watch the game LIVE on NBC Sports Boston or get your tickets today.

Boston Cannons Game Notes CANNONS BEAT LIZARDS 18-11 TO IMPROVE TO 3-0 FOR 2019 Page 8

Connor O’Hara scores four against New York to lead the charge

QUINCY, MA - The Boston Cannons continued their early season rise on Saturday with an 18-11 win over rival New York Lizards, moving into first place in the MLL with a 3-0 record.

"Our guys battled," said Cannons Head Coach Sean Quirk. "Early on, New York came out really strong, particularly at the faceoff-X. Our guys were just really resilient tonight. Even at the end when [the Lizards] made that push, we just kept fighting. Really proud of the guys. Our coaches did a great job preparing. John Klepacki, the defensive coordinator and Ben Rubeor, our offensive coordinator, really had a great game plan going into this."

The Cannons and Lizards traded goals throughout the first quarter, but the Cannons led 5-3 after the first fifteen minutes with goals from Connor O'Hara (2), Shawn Evans, Will Sands, and long pole Ryland Rees. They probably would have finished the first quarter with a 6-3 lead, but Lizards goaltender made a great diving stop in the closing seconds.

The Lizards struck first in the second quarter, as Rob Pannell lured Nick Marrocco out of the cage and scored in the empty net to pull New York within one. Cannons midfielder Zed Williams scored at 11:21 to give Boston another two-goal lead, but the Lizards tied it at six with two goals from Justin Reh, the second coming at 4:25.

Just as things were turning in the Lizards' favor, Kyle Jackson ended their push with his fifth goal of the season to put the Cannons up once again. The Cannons regained a two-goal lead with 20 seconds left in the second. Challen Rogers held the ball at the top of the arc, worked his way through the mass of slashes in his way, and found Will Sands all alone in front, who buried it for his second of the game.

With just a two-goal lead at the start of the third, the Cannons held their own defensively and outscored the Lizards 6-2 in the third frame. In the second half alone, the Cannons outscored the Lizards 10-5 in what was a big second half performance.

"That second half was big. We had a lot of momentum going. There was a little scuffle down here, and that can change momentum in a game. Our guys stayed really even keeled. Boston Cannons Game Notes WEEK FOUR PREVIEW: NEW YORK LIZARDS AT BOSTON CANNONS Page 9

Cannons look to go 2-0 at Veterans Memorial Stadium verse their rival New York, 2018

QUINCY, MA - After a bye in Week Three, the Boston Cannons return home this weekend to host the New York Lizards on Saturday. Through two games, the Cannons have jumped to a 2-0 record and are currently tied with the for first in the MLL. They'll certainly be looking to continue the win streak against a struggling Lizards team.

"Coming off the bye week, we are excited to be back at home competing against a very strong Lizards team," said Cannons Head Coach Sean Quirk. "We look forward to seeing our fans as they were amazing during our first outing this season."

The Cannons last played on June 9, when they put on an offensive clinic down in Dallas. They jumped to a 9-0 lead in the first half and did not look back, finishing with a 16-10 win. Midfielder Kyle Jackson led the way with four goals, followed by hat-trick performances from both Connor O'Hara and Zed Williams. Nick Marrocco made 15 saves in the cage and the Cannons' defense put on another solid performance, causing six turnovers overall.

The Rattlers might've held Mark Cockerton to just two goals after the attackman buried six in the season opener, but the Cannons received contributions all across the board. Will Sands showed off his elite passing ability, finishing the game with six assists. Kevin Reisman improved at the faceoff-X, giving the Cannons some extra possessions on offense throughout the four quarters.

New York suffered its third straight loss last weekend to the Bayhawks to put them at 0-3 on the season. The Lizards held a 12-11 lead at the beginning of the fourth quarter but were outscored 5-2 in the final frame to suffer a 16-14 loss. Attackman Rob Pannell had his best game of the season with three goals and two assists, but the Lizards' offense went cold in the final fifteen minutes of regulation.

The Cannons defeated the Lizards by the score of 13-12 in their Week One matchup on June 1, a game that literally went down to the final buzzer. Up 13-9, the Cannons allowed three straight goals, but were able to fight off the final Lizards' push in the last minute to earn the win. Despite the fact the Lizards are currently last in the MLL, the Cannons won't be taking then lightly.

"Pumped for round two of the Boston versus New York rivalry," said Marrocco. "We all know New York is going to continue to improve every game, especially with the offensive firepower of [Rob] Pannell, [Dylan] Molloy, [Mark] Matthews, [Kevin] Crowley, and company. You can't take a single rep off with the talent they have."

With the Cannons and Lizards heading in the opposite directions, Saturday's matchup at Veterans Memorial Stadium should be an interesting one. The Cannons are playing some of the best lacrosse they've played in years, while the Lizards are struggling to find their rhythm early on. All time, the Lizards hold a 21-14 record over the Cannons in regular season action.

"The rivalry between Boston and New York is always intense," Cockerton said. "I look forward to renewing that intensity on Saturday night."

You can watch Saturday's game against the Lizards LIVE on NBC Sports Boston. Faceoff is set for 5:02 pm ET. Tickets are still available, so get your today by calling (617) 746-9933 or get yours on ticketmaster.com.
