  • Great Recession and Disability in Spain
Great Recession and Disability in Spain Sergi Jiménez-Martín Arnau Juanmartí Mestres Judit Vall CAstelló April 2016 Barcelona GSE Working Paper Series Working Paper nº 896 Great Recession and Disability in Spain1 Sergi Jiménez-Martín2 Arnau Juanmarti Mestres3 Judit Vall Castelló4 Abstract In this paper we evaluate the impact of the business cycle on participation in the Disability Insurance (DI) program in Spain in the context of the Great Recession, which has been particularly strong in this country. We follow two approaches. First, we use regional administrative data to estimate the effect of the regional unemployment rate on the number of applications, denials and allowances to the DI rolls. Second, we use longitudinal panel data to estimate the effect of the business cycle on transitions from different labor market states to the DI rolls. Our results show a pro-cyclical behavior of participation in DI during the years of the Great Recession. This is in contrast to the countercyclical response documented both for other countries as well as for Spain before 2008. We document some facts that partially explain why DI benefits have become pro instead of countercyclical during the Great Recession in Spain. Our results provide valuable evidence for policy-makers as they highlight that some of the disabled population may be left economically uncovered during the worst of times. KEY WORDS: Disability, Great Recession, labour market transitions JEL CLASSIFICATION: I13, I38, J14. 1 We gratefully acknowledge financial support from Recercaixa for the 2014 project “Promoting the labour market integration of disabled workers: a policy evaluation exercise for Spain" and from the Spanish Ministry of Economy grant ECO2014-52238-R.

  • Informe De Resultados De La Consulta a Asociaciones Vecinales Relativa Al Estado De La Limpieza En La Ciudad De Madrid

  • A New Spatio-Temporal Neural Network Approach for Traffic Accident Forecasting
UNIVERSIDAD NACIONAL DE EDUCACIÓN A DISTANCIA MASTER THESIS A New Spatio-Temporal Neural Network Approach for Traffic Accident Forecasting Author: Supervisor: Rodrigo de Medrano José Luis Aznarte López Mellado, PhD A thesis submitted in fulfillment of the requirements for the degree of MSc. Advanced Methods in Artificial Intelligence in the Departament of Artificial Intelligence September 13, 2019 ii UNIVERSIDAD NACIONAL DE EDUCACIÓN A DISTANCIA Abstract ETS de Ingeniería Informática Departament of Artificial Intelligence MSc. Advanced Methods in Artificial Intelligence A New Spatio-Temporal Neural Network Approach for Traffic Accident Forecasting by Rodrigo de Medrano López Traffic accidents forecasting represents a major priority for traffic govern- mental organisms around the world to ensure a decrease in life, property and economic losses. The increasing amounts of traffic accident data have been used to train machine learning predictors, although this is a challeng- ing task due to the relative rareness of accidents, inter-dependencies of traffic accidents both in time and space and high dependency on human behav- ior. Recently, deep learning techniques have shown significant prediction improvements over traditional models, but some difficulties and open ques- tions remain around their applicability, accuracy and ability to provide prac- tical information. This paper proposes a new spatio-temporal deep learning framework based on a latent model for simultaneously predicting the num- ber of traffic accidents in each neighborhood in Madrid, Spain, over varying training and prediction time horizons. iii Acknowledgements Cuando uno se embarca en la realización de un trabajo de este calibre, se puede tener por seguro que el camino no será fácil.

  • Elpozo, the Most Bought Brand
ElPozo, the most bought brand ElPozo products are present in 78.9 per cent of Spanish households, according to Kantar Worldpanel’s ‘Brand Footprint’ ranking 7th June 2017.- The ElPozo brand is once again, for the second year running, the brand which most people buy, according to the ‘Brand Footprint’ ranking undertaken by the consultancy Kantar Worldpanel, the greatest study of consumer brands based on actual purchases last year. ElPozo products are present in 78.9 per cent of Spanish households, that is, eight out of ten families. The Spanish food company is ahead of Coca-Cola, present in 76.3 per cent of households in our country. In addition, ElPozo is the Spanish consumer brand with the highest rate of annual contact, with 132.3 million registered by Kantar. ElPozo Alimentación is also the leader in sales by Autonomous Communities, in seven of which it is number one. ElPozo is the number one choice of consumer brand in the Region of Murcia, Andalucia, Castilla-La Mancha, Extremadura, Galicia, Navarra and the Canary Islands, which is included for the first time in the Brand Footprint regional rankings. The ‘Brand Footprint 2017’ study identifies 50 consumer brands which are bought the most often in Spain and in the world. This report, which reflects purchases undertaken by households, is based on consumer contact, which is made from the number of buyers of a brand and the frequency with which they buy it. ElPozo has also just recently been chosen among the most innovative producers of brand name consumer goods, thanks to the success of its product launches.

  • What Drives House Price Cycles? International Experience and Policy Issues+
What Drives House Price Cycles? International Experience and Policy Issues+ JOHN V. DUCA and JOHN MUELLBAUER, with ANTHONY MURPHY* The role of real estate during the global financial and economic crisis has prompted efforts to better incorporate housing and financial channels into macro-models, improve housing models, develop macroprudential tools, and reform the financial system. This article provides an overview of major, recent contributions to the literature in relation to earlier research on what drives housing prices and how they affect economic activity. Particularly emphasized are studies, both theoretical and more strongly evidence-based, which connect housing markets with credit markets, house price expectations, financial stability, and the wider economy. The literature reveals much diversity in the international and regional behavior of house prices and the need to improve data tracking key housing supply and demand influences. Also reviewed are studies examining how monetary, macroprudential, and other policies affect house prices and access to housing. This survey is designed to help readers navigate the plethora of recent studies and understand the unsettled issues and avenues for further research. The findings should be of interest to policy makers concerned with financial stability as well as those dealing with the role of housing in the wider economy. * Duca: Oberlin College, Department of Economics and Federal Reserve Bank of Dallas, Research Department.
