The infestation of fruit borer, Cadra cautella (Walker) (Lepidoptera: Pyralidae) was observed in ber fruits at Fruit Research Farm, Punjab Agricultural University, Ludhiana during November-December. About 10% fruits of variety Sanaur were observed to be infested by black larvae making tunnels inside fruits. The pest is widespread in the stored conditions infesting stored cereals, dry fruits in warehouses but as far as field is concerned, this is the first report of field infestation of ber fruits from Punjab as well as in India. Dardona**, Mohammed.A.Albayoumi * * Msc Microbiology ** Msc Limnology Abstract- Butterflies and moths were studied in regions of Wadi Gaza, extending from Salahe El-deen bridge west to Wadi Abo- Qatron near Wadi Gaza village to the east. The research is based on studying the diversity of butterflies and moths in terms of taxa diversity, Genera compositions, and family abundance. In terms of family abundance, the survey showed that all recorded butterflies are belonging to five main families (Pieridae, Hesperiidae, Lycaenidae, Nymphalidae, Papilionidae). The recorded moths are also belonging to five families (Arctiidae, Crambidae, Geometridae, Noctuidae, Sphingidae). In terms of species and genera compositions and diversity, the survey revealed that butterflies are more abundant concerning diversity and richness than moths. The five families of butterflies are consisting of (19 genera) and (25 species) while the five families of moths are consisting of only (10 genera) and (11species).The butterflies represented (69 %) of recorded species in the area of study while the moths were represented in (31 %) of the findings. The most abundant family of butterflies is Pieridae with (36%) of all recorded butterflies, followed by Lycaenidae (32%). As for moths, the abundant families are Noctuidae, Geometridae, and Crambidae were each family was represented by (3 species), and they form (82%) of recorded moths. In this study all genera, in both moths and butterflies are represented only by one specie except six genera of butterflies and one genus of moths as each one is represented with two species, these six genera of butterflies are zizeeria,Vanessa, Colias, Pieris, Carcharodus, and Pointa and that genues of moths is Stemorrhages. -

Results indicate that pubHshed information relating to distribution, identification and host-plant association is often unreliable. The apparently local and scarce T. balkanicus may be identified with a high degree of certainty from wing markings, but T. theophrastus and T. rosaceus cannot be reliably separated other than by examination of the male genital armature. Seven Abstract In this study, butterflies collected from Gökçeada are presented, including old records from the literature. Seven species collected during the course of this study [Allancastria cerisyi (L., 1758), Leptidea sinapis (L., 1758), Issoria lathonia (L., 1758), Plebicula thersites (Cantener, [1835]), Pseudophilotes vicrama (Moore, 1865), Tarucus balkanicus (Freyer, [1844]), Glaucopsyche alexis (Poda, 1761)] are the first record for the Gökçeada. With this study the number of species from Gökçeada was raised from 45 to 52. Seven species are proposed for endangered (E) status and 13 species for vulnerable (VU) status. Frankfurt am Main; download unter www.zobodat.at 371 The life-history of Caleta roxus (Lepidoptera: Lycaenidae) by Konrad FIEDLER Abstract: Caleta roxus (Godart [1824]) lays its yellow eggs singly on young shoots of a climber in the family Rhamnaceae. Larvae hatch after 4 —5 d. Caterpillars feed on young foliage. There are4 larval instars, larval development lasts 22 d. The green caterpillars are very flat and hairy. L3 and L4 larvae have a yellow middorsal band. Caterpillars lack a dorsal nectary organ and tentacle organs and are not attended by ants. The girdled pupae are likewise hairy and are not attractive to ants. The butterfly emerges after a pupal period of 8 d. Both larvae and pupae are able to produce substrate-borne vibrations when disturbed. The observations on C. roxus are discussed with respect to phylogenetic and ecological implica tions. Die männlichen Falter saugen gerne an feuchter Erde, Vogelkot o. ä., beide Geschlechter besu chen Blüten. Die Eiablage erfolgt einzeln in der Mittagszeit an jungen Blät tern und Ranken einer Liane (Familie Rhamnaceae, eine genauere Bestim mung war mangels Blüten bislang unmöglich). Aus den gelben Eiern (Durchmesser 0,5 mm) schlüpfen nach4 —5 Tagen die Jungraupen. -

KEY WORDS: First record, Tarucus theophrastus, Zizyphus lotus, Biskra steppe With more than a million of species described on Earth, insects, which represent 90% of all living, are a very important component of the biosphere (Samways, 1994) and the most diverse (Raven & Yeates, 2007). For several years, global changes have represented a significant threat to ecosystems (Tscarntke & Hawkins et al., 2005; IPCC, 2014; Belhamra et al., 2020). Disturbances in the landscape can cause significant erosion of insect biodiversity (Denny, 1994; Belhamra et al., 2014). The number of currently known species is undoubtedly very low compared to the real specific richness (Heywood et al., 1995). -

Data from four surveys within the last six years were combined in order to improve the knowledge of the butterfly distribution in the Republic of Macedonia. These surveys covered a total of 40 localities, with special emphasis on less sampled areas of the south-western part of the country. The study yielded recording of 131 species, including several habitat specialist and potentially threatened butterflies. Interesting records for the following species are discussed in detail: Muschampia tessellum, Anthocharis gruneri, Euchloe penia, Tarucus balkanicus, Cupido alcetas, Pseudophilotes bavius, Polyommatus aroaniensis, Polyommatus escheri, Araschnia levana and Melitaea ornata. Ten species observed are considered threatened at the European level and 18 of them at the country level. This proves high conservation value of the studied region with many butterfly rich habitats still preserved. -
