These relations evolved under conditions in which both countries understood and valued the need for cooperation, but also were aware of its limits and the dangers of too close a partnership. U.S. security dealings with Saudi Arabia are an extreme, perhaps unique, case of how security ties unfolded under conditions in which sensitivities to those ties were always a central —oftentimes dominating—consideration. This was especially true in the most delicate area of military assistance. Distinct patterns of behavior by the two countries emerged as a result, patterns that continue to this day.     "Rock and roll's been very very good to me," Rhett Miller sings on "Longer Than You've Been Alive," an epic six-minute stream-of-consciousness meditation on his life in music. It's a rare moment of pulling back the curtain, on both the excesses and tedium of the world of a touring musician, and it's the perfect way to open the Old 97's new album, 'Most Messed Up.' "I wrote that song very quickly and didn’t rewrite one word of it," Miller explains. "It's sort of a thesis statement not just for this record, but for my life's work." To say that rock and roll has been good to the Old 97's (guitarist/vocalist Miller, bassist/vocalist Murry Hammond, guitarist Ken Bethea, and drummer Philip Peeples) would be an understatement. The band emerged from Dallas twenty years ago at the forefront of a musical movement blending rootsy, country-influenced songwriting with punk rock energy and delivery. The New York Times has described their major label debut, 'Too Far To Care,' as "a cornerstone of the 'alternative country' movement…[that] leaned more toward the Clash than the Carter Family." They've released a slew of records since then, garnering praise from NPR and Billboard to SPIN and Rolling Stone, who hailed the band as "four Texans raised on the Beatles and Johnny Cash in equal measures, whose shiny melodies, and fatalistic character studies, do their forefathers proud." The band performed on television from Letterman to Austin City Limits and had their music appear in countless film and TV soundtracks (they appeared as themselves in the Vince Vaughn/Jennifer Aniston movie 'The Break Up').

    FOREIGNER Can't slow down (Rock FM / AOR / Westcoast) Année de sortie : 2009 Nombre de pistes : 13 Durée : 49' Support : MP3 Provenance : Acheté Je vais débuter cette chronique du retour aussi inespéré qu'inattendu d'une légende du Hard-Rock / Rock-FM par quelques chiffres : 1/ Premier album 1977 (Foreigner) Ce Can't Slow Down déboule donc 32 ans plus tard (jolie carrière tout de même !) et est le neuvième studio du groupe ! 2/ FOREIGNER a vendu plus de 65 millions de cds au monde. (Et c'est pas fini !) Après ses 3 remarquables et remarqués premiers albums (1977 Foreigner, 1978 Double Vison, 1979 Head Games), c'est en 1981 que le groupe explose les compteurs avec 4 (avec le géant John Mutt LANGE aux "manettes"). Agent Provocateur, 1984 laissera une place conséquente aux claviers et placera encore quelques hymnes (I Wanna Know What Love Is, That Was Yesterday) dans les charts mondiaux. La suite, c'est Inside Information en 1987, un bon album avec son single "Say You Will", puis le départ de son chanteur Lou GRAMM... Et avant son retour pour un agréable et calme Mr Moonlight en 1995, FOREIGNER offre un Unusual Heat inégal dont je retiens la ballade I'll Fight For You, avec un nouveau et excellent chanteur (Johnny EDWARDS). Vous noterez donc qu'il aura fallu attendre 14 ans pour que FOREIGNER livre un nouvel opus. Attente récompensé s'il en est ! FOREIGNER revient donc en 2009 avec une formule à 6 musiciens, comme à ses débuts. Mais des débuts justement, il ne reste que Mick JONES, notre anglais dont le duo avec Lou GRAMM, notre américain fit des miracles d'écritures par le passé ! En revanche, bonne pioche pour le choix du nouveau chanteur absolument prodigieux et nommé Kelly HANSEN.
