Portsmouth Number List 2019
Portsmouth Number List 2019 The RYA Portsmouth Yardstick Scheme is provided to enable clubs to allow boats of different classes to race against each other fairly. The RYA actively encourages clubs to adjust handicaps where classes are either under or over performing compared to the number being used. The Portsmouth Yardstick list combines the Portsmouth numbers with class configuration and the total number of races returned to the RYA in the annual return. This additional data has been provided to help clubs achieve the stated aims of the Portsmouth Yardstick system and make adjustments to Portsmouth Numbers where necessary. Clubs using the PN list should be aware that the list is based on the typical performance of each boat across a variety of clubs and locations. Experimental numbers are based on fewer returns and are to be used as a guide for clubs to allocate as a starting number before reviewing and adjusting where necessary. The list of experimental Portsmouth Numbers will be periodically reviewed by the RYA and is based on data received via PY Online. Users of the PY scheme are reminded that all Portsmouth Numbers published by the RYA should be regarded as a guide only. The RYA list is not definitive and clubs should adjust where necessary. To make this process as quick and stress free as possible, find details below of a few areas I'd ask you to check on your boat prior to leaving home: - - Your sail has both country identifier letters and sail numbers displayed as specified; Sport : http://uk.rstera.org/docs/sport_sail_diagram.compressed.pdf Pro : http://uk.rstera.org/docs/pro_sail_diagram.compressed.pdf RS SAILING WILL NOT HAVE COUNTRY LETTERS FOR SALE AT THE EVENT - Your boat shall carry a painter of at least 8m in length permanently attached to the standard fitment position in front of the mast. 8m indicates the length from the foremost part of the bow to the end of the painter. 2019 One Design Classes and Sailor Survey
2019 One Design Classes and Sailor Survey [email protected] One Design Classes and Sailor Survey One Design sailing is a critical and fundamental part of our sport. In late October 2019, US Sailing put together a survey for One Design class associations and sailors to see how we can better serve this important constituency. The survey was sent via email, as a link placed on our website and through other USSA Social media channels. The survey was sent to our US Sailing members, class associations and organizations, and made available to any constituent that noted One-Design sailing in their profile. Some interesting observations: • Answers are based on respondents’ perception of or actual experience with US Sailing. • 623 unique comments were received from survey respondents and grouped into “Response Types” for sorting purposes • When reviewing data, please note that “OTHER” Comments are as equally important as those called out in a specific area, like Insurance, Administration, etc. • The majority of respondents are currently or have been members of US Sailing for more than 5 years, and many sail in multiple One-Design classes • About 1/5 of the OD respondents serve(d) as an officer of their primary OD class; 80% were owner/drivers of their primary OD class; and more than 60% were members of their primary OD class association. • Respondents to the survey were most highly concentrated on the East and West coasts, followed by the Mid- West and Texas – though we did have representation from 42 states, plus Puerto Rico and Canada. • Most respondents were male. -

Information for World Sailing Committees
Information for World Sailing Committees INTRODUCTION The RS Aero achieved the highest score in the One-Person Olympic Equipment Evaluation Report. It will always be possible for detractors to question various details, but the fact remains that the RS Aero was unanimously considered the best option by the wide range of experts involved, which speaks loudly. We realise that some World Sailing Board, Council and Committee members may not have seen detailed factors that make the RS Aero the best boat for not only Olympians but also to build the crucial youth pathway and women’s participation. A summary follows. DESIGN OVERVIEW The RS Aero philosophy is to prioritise ultra-light weight, performance and practicality to produce a simple, refined and durable boat with rig sizes to suit sailors between 35 and 100kg. The RS Aero weighs about the same as an Optimist. This gives exceptional levels of responsiveness and user friendliness - afloat and ashore – for youths, women and men. It brings dinghy sailing closer to the simplicity and excitement of board sailing. The hull was designed to minimise the effect of different sailor weights. Topsides are relatively vertical and chines just touches the water with the lightest sailor aboard – with a heavier sailor the hull sits slightly lower in the water, while the waterplane shape remains about the same to minimise drag difference. RS Aero – rig sizes: RS Aero 5 RS Aero 6 (new rig developed and proposed for women’s Olympic rig) - see Appendix 1 below RS Aero 7 RS Aero 9 RS Sailing is exclusively licensed to manufacture and sell the RS Aero and is also the trademark holder, so there are no conflicts or complications due to multiple parties. -
