Following the current orders from Governor Newsom and the directives from the Archdiocese of Los Angeles, effective immediately, our actual in-person masses on Sundays are now suspended. All other indoor events in the church are suspended as ordered by the government because of the spike of Corona virus infection here in California. Churches are allowed to do worships services when it is done outdoors. In view of this, we are going to set up our Sunday masses outdoors in our church parking lot.

Brothers and sisters in Christ, this is a direct quotation from the gospel of Matthew, Chapter 13, Verses 27-28 in our liturgy on this 16th Sunday in Ordinary Time. It seems to me that this has a direct reference to what is happening in the church just the past week or so. We just prepared our parish church building for actual in-person worship services strictly following the health protocols mandated by our civil health authorities and the leadership in the church. Then suddenly we are ordered to close down our indoor services again, although, allowing us to pray and worship outdoors.
Like the words of Jesus in the gospel mentioned above, ‘An enemy has done this.’ I honestly feel like we are being persecuted. Indeed, an enemy has done this to us, an enemy that is invisible and devilish. What is happening now is really unprecedented and alarming. It seems that there is no end in sight. What else can we do to stop this pandemic from spreading? What can we do to keep our faithful people from keeping their faith firm and strong in the midst of this uncertainty? This is really a time for self-searching and pondering. This is an opportunity for us to examine seriously our faith in God. How much more can we hold on to this kind of persecution?
In light of all these development, Immaculate Heart of Mary Church parish community is not losing hope. There is light at the end of the tunnel for us. We have resilient and courageous people who are dedicated and willing to sacrifice for God and community. Therefore, we have planned to transfer our Sunday masses outdoors beginning, Sunday, July 26, 2020. Since we are having the masses outdoors, we need to consider the fact that it is summer time and it gets very hot under the sun. The solution to this matter is to schedule our masses early in the morning.
After consultation with the working team and volunteers I have organized for this purpose, we have decided to do the English mass at 7am and the Spanish mass at 9:30am. These are the only masses we will have every Sunday for the time being. We will study the situation for a time before we make some adjustments to add some more masses late in the afternoon depending on the availability of volunteers to assist us in the preparation of the masses. I am also inviting some more volunteers to help us make this unique worship experience something to remember and cherish about in the history of our parish community.
May the Blessed Virgin Mary assist us and protect us in these uncertain times. May God bless us and keep us safe and healthy all the days of our lives.
In todays Gospel, Jesus offers us 3 parables in which He describes the Kingdom of God. It also explains why he speaks to the multitudes in parables and interprets the parable of the sower for the disciples. This reading is a continuation of the speech that Jesus made and that we began to read last Sunday.
The three parables use rich and common experiences to describe aspects of the Kingdom of Heaven. The first parable is longer and more detailed than the following two, and motivates and explains us about the double reality of the Kingdom of Heaven. The beginnings of the Kingdom of Heaven can be found in this world. However, the realization of the Kingdom of The Heavens will not take place until the final judgment. Meanwhile, as you warn Jesus' explanation to the disciples, any effort to judge the progress of the Kingdom of Heaven is premature. Only God, in the final judgment, will distinguish the fruit of the Kingdom of Heaven and offer its reward.
The second and third parables should draw our attention to the abundance that will result from the small beginnings of the Kingdom of Heavens. Just as a mustard seed, one of the smallest of all seeds, will grow into a great bush, so too will God make his kingdom flourish fully. As a small amount of yeast will ferment the entire portion of bread, God will also bring the expansion of his Kingdom. In In each case, the image is of the superabundance that God draws from even the smallest signs of the Kingdom.
Within these parables are words of care as well as words of comfort. In the parable of the sower we are warned against judging others. Judging and uprooting "weeds" prematurely will damage wheat; the final judgment rests with God. In the parables of the seed of mustard and yeast, we are comforted by the message that God can work wonders and produce abundance even from the smallest beginnings of the Kingdom of Heaven. Los esclavos del jefe de familia se acercaron a él y le dijeron: «Maestro, ¿no sembraste buena semilla en tu campo? ¿De dónde provienen las malezas? Él respondió:"Un enemigo ha hecho esto".
Hermanos y hermanas en Cristo, esta es una cita directa del evangelio de Mateo, Capítulo 13, versículos 27-28 en nuestra liturgia en este 16º domingo del tiempo ordinario. Me parece que esto tiene una referencia directa a lo que está sucediendo en la iglesia la semana pasada más o menos. Acabamos de preparar el edificio de nuestra iglesia parroquial para los servicios de adoración en persona siguiendo estrictamente los protocolos de salud establecidos por nuestras autoridades de salud civil y el liderazgo de la iglesia. Luego, de repente, se nos ordena cerrar nuestros servicios interiores nuevamente, aunque nos permite rezar y adorar a fuera del edificio.
Al igual que las palabras de Jesús en el evangelio mencionadas anteriormente, "un enemigo ha hecho esto". Sinceramente, siento que estamos siendo perseguidos. De hecho, un enemigo nos ha hecho esto, un enemigo invisible y diabólico. Lo que está sucediendo ahora es realmente sin precedentes y alarmante. Parece que no hay un final a la vista. ¿Qué más podemos hacer para evitar que esta pandemia se propague? ¿Qué podemos hacer para evitar que nuestra gente fiel mantenga su fe firme y fuerte en medio de esta incertidumbre? Este es realmente un momento para buscar y reflexionar. Esta es una oportunidad para que examinemos seriamente nuestra fe en Dios. ¿Cuánto más podemos aferrarnos a este tipo de persecución?
A la luz de todo este desarrollo, la comunidad parroquial de la Iglesia Inmaculado Corazón de María no está perdiendo la esperanza. Hay luz al final del túnel para nosotros. Tenemos personas resistentes y valientes que están dedicadas y dispuestas a sacrificarse por Dios y la comunidad. Por lo tanto, hemos planeado transferir nuestras misas dominicales a afuera de la iglesia a partir del domingo, 26 de julio de 2020. Dado que tendremos misas afuera, debemos tener en cuenta el hecho de que es verano y hace mucho calor bajo el sol. La solución a este asunto es programar nuestras misas temprano en la mañana.
Después de consultar con el equipo de trabajo y los voluntarios que he organizado para este propósito, hemos decidido hacer la misa en inglés a las 7 a.m. y la misa en español a las 9:30 a.m. Estas son las únicas misas que tendremos todos los domingos por el momento. Estudiaremos la situación por un tiempo antes de hacer algunos cambios para agregar algunas misas más tarde dependiendo de la disponibilidad de voluntarios para ayudarrnos en la preparación de las misas. También estoy invitando a más voluntarios para que nos ayuden a hacer de esta experiencia única de adoración algo para recordar y apreciar en la historia de nuestra comunidad parroquial.
Que la Santísima Virgen María nos ayude y proteja en estos tiempos inciertos. Que Dios nos bendiga y nos mantenga seguros y saludables todos los días de nuestras vidas.
En el Evangelio de hoy, Jesús nos ofrece tres parábolas en las cuales describe el Reino de los Cielos. También nos explica por qué habla a las multitudes en parábolas e interpreta la parábola del sembrador para los discípulos. Esta lectura es una continuación del discurso que Jesús hizo y que comenzamos a leer el domingo pasado.
Las tres parábolas usan experiencias ricas y comunes para describir aspectos del Reino de los Cielos. La primera parábola es más larga y más detallada que las dos siguientes, y nos motiva y explica sobre la doble realidad del Reino de los Cielos. Los comienzos del Reino de los Cielos se pueden encontrar en este mundo. Sin embargo, la realización del Reino de los Cielos no se realizará hasta el juicio final. Mientras tanto, como advierte la explicación de Jesús a los discípulos, cualquier esfuerzo por juzgar el progreso del Reino de los Cielos es prematuro. Solo Dios, en el juicio final, distinguirá el fruto del Reino de los Cielos y ofrecerá su recompensa.
La segunda y tercera parábolas deben llamar nuestra atención sobre la abundancia que resultará de los pequeños comienzos del Reino de los Cielos. Así como una semilla de mostaza, una de las más pequeña de todas las semillas, se convertirá en un gran arbusto, también Dios hará que su reino florezca por completo. Como una pequeña cantidad de levadura fermentará toda la porción de pan, también Dios traerá la expansión de su Reino. En cada caso, la imagen es de la superabundancia que Dios saca incluso de los signos más pequeños del Reino.
Dentro de estas parábolas hay palabras de cuidado, así como palabras de consuelo. En la parábola del sembrador se nos advierte contra juzgar a los demás. Juzgar y desarraigar las "malas hierbas" prematuramente dañará el trigo; el juicio final descansa en Dios. En las parábolas de la semilla de mostaza y la levadura, nos consuela el mensaje de que Dios puede hacer maravillas y producir abundancia incluso desde los comienzos más pequeños del Reino de los Cielos.
