Steelhead/rainbow trout resources of Los Angeles County Arroyo Sequit Arroyo Sequit consists of about 3.3 stream miles. The arroyo is formed by the confluence of the East and West forks, from where it flows south to enter the Pacific Ocean east of Sequit Point. As part of a survey of 32 southern coastal watersheds, Arroyo Sequit was surveyed in 1979. The O. mykiss sampled were between about two and 6.5 inches in length. The survey report states, “Historically, small steelhead runs have been reported in this area” (DFG 1980). It also recommends, “…future upstream water demands and construction should be reviewed to insure that riparian and aquatic habitats are maintained” (DFG 1980). Arroyo Sequit was surveyed in 1989-1990 as part of a study of six streams originating in the Santa Monta Mountains. The resulting report indicates the presence of steelhead and states, “Low streamflows are presently limiting fish habitat, particularly adult habitat, and potential fish passage problems exist…” (Keegan 1990a, p. 3-4). Staff from DFG surveyed Arroyo Sequit in 1993 and captured O. mykiss, taking scale and fin samples for analysis. The individuals ranged in length between about 7.7 and 11.6 inches (DFG 1993). As reported in a distribution study, a 15-17 inch trout was observed in March 2000 in Arroyo Sequit (Dagit 2005). Staff from NMFS surveyed Arroyo Sequit in 2002 as part of a study of steelhead distribution. An adult steelhead was observed during sampling (NMFS 2002a). Additional documentation of steelhead using the creek between 2000-2007 was provided by Dagit et al. -

Jones submitted in partial fulfillment of the requirements of the degree MASTER OF SCIENCE ENVIRONMENTAL EDUCATION UNIVERSITY OF WISCONSIN Stevens Point, Wisconsin August, 1996 August, 1996 APPROVED BY THE GRADUATE COMMITTEE OF: Gorky cReynolds, Ph.D. Professor of Environmental Education 'ABSTRACT Planting Seeds of Green Consumerism The purpose of the recycling instructional program that was implemented at the Arbor Vitae-Woodruff Elementary School during the 1995-1996 school year was to develop awareness and knowledge of recycling skills, attitudes of responsibility towards consumer practices, and skills for evaluating and reporting concerns of environmentally unfriendly consumer practices. The project involved students from grades first through fourth. Ninety three students participated in a series of learning experiences concerning recycling. Parents participated by completing extended lessons at home. The methodology used to assess the results of the learning experiences consisted of two descriptive surveys, one for the participating students and one for the participating parents. Students and parents were also required to complete the survey prior to the time the lessons began . These surveys were again completed in May. Data from both surveys was compiled at the end of the year. The rationale behind the construction and the implementation of the program, is that much of the solid waste problems we have in our country today could be eliminated by source reduction which is commonly called recycling. But in order for this to happen, consumers of today and tomorrow need to be educated about the problem and its possible solutions. The findings indicated there was a good growth amongst the third and fourth grade students, some growth amongst the first and second grade students, and little growth on the part of the parents of participating students. -

Projects may include • In-stream habitat improvements, including cover structures (divide logs, digger logs, spider logs, and log/root wad/boulder combinations), boulder structures (boulder weirs, vortex boulder weirs, boulder clusters, and single- and opposing-boulder wing- deflectors), log structures (log weirs, upsurge weirs, single- and opposing-log wing- deflectors, and Hewitt ramps) and placement of imported spawning gravel may be utilized in certain locations. -

The emergence of personal mobile computing and ubiquitous wire- less networks enables powerful field applications of video streaming, such as vision-enabled command centers for hazardous materials response. However, ex- perience has repeatedly demonstrated both the fragility of the wireless networks and the insatiable demand for higher resolution and more video streams. In the wild, even the best streaming video mechanisms result in low-resolution, low- frame-rate video, in part because the motion of first-person mobile video (e.g., via a head-mounted camera) decimates temporal (inter-frame) compression. We introduce a visualization technique for displaying low-bit-rate first-person video that maintains the benefits of high resolution, while minimizing the problems typ- ically associated with low frame rates. This technique has the unexpected benefit of eliminating the “Blaire Witch Project” effect – the nausea-inducing jumpiness typical of first-person video. We explore the features and benefits of the technique through both a field study involving hazardous waste disposal and a lab study of side-by-side comparisons with alternate methods. The technique was praised as a possible command center tool, and some of the participants in the lab study pre- ferred our low-bitrate encoding technique to the full-frame, high resolution video that was used as a control. -

None of Pennsylvania's major rivers can be considered undammed or unchannelized. The map was compiled using data on 1,400 large and medium- sized dams from the National Inventory of Dams (NID). To be included in the NID, the dam must be either more than 6 ft (2 m) high with more than 50 acre-feet (61,000 cu m) of storage or 25 ft (8 m) high with more than 15 acre-feet (18,500 cu m) of storage. Pennsylvania also has many smaller dams that are not included in the NID and are therefore not represented on this map. (See page 102 for discussion.)
