Lynne Ramsay UK Film Centre supports delegates with packed events programme 320 British films for sale in the market A Clockwork Orange in Cannes Classics The UK film industry comes to Cannes celebrating the selection of Lynne Ramsay’s We Need to Talk About Kevin for the official competition line-up at this year’s festival, Duane Hopkins’s short film, Cigarette at Night, in the Directors’ Fortnight and the restoration of Stanley Kubrick’s A Clockwork Orange, restored by Warner Bros; in Cannes Classics. Lynne Ramsay’s We Need To Talk About Kevin starring Tilda Swinton was co-funded by the UK Film Council, whose film funding activities have now transferred to the BFI. Duane Hopkins is a director who was supported by the UK Film Council with his short Love Me and Leave Me Alone and his first feature Better Things. Actor Malcolm McDowell will be present for the screening of A Clockwork Orange. ITV Studios’ restoration of A Night to Remember will be screened in the Cinema on the Beach, complete with deckchairs. British acting talent will be seen in many films across the festival including Carey Mulligan in competition film Drive, and Tom Hiddleston & Michael Sheen in Woody Allen's opening night Midnight in Paris The UK Film Centre offers a unique range of opportunities for film professionals, with events that include Tilda Swinton, Lynne Ramsay and Luc Roeg discussing We Need to Talk About Kevin, The King’s Speech producers Iain Canning and Gareth Unwin discussing the secrets of the film’s success, BBC Film’s Christine Langan In the Spotlight and directors Nicolas Winding Refn and Shekhar Kapur in conversation. -

To have face-to-face meetings with potential co-producing partners, broadcasters, commissioning editors, sales agents and distributors who could work with Australian companies to enable R developed projects to be produced and finished projects to find a place in the market. To support the Australian filmmakers attending the events – in the case of IDFA it was those who had projects screening in the festival or who were pitching projects in the Forum or private meetings. To observe which L documentaries were finding an audience, and in what form. And to establish new contacts, particularly in the area of science producing, where the cost of production is such that numerous co-production partners are usually E essential. Attending the two events back-to-back was an interesting conjunction of market/festival. It is best expressed via two conversations I had on my first V day at each event. When asking a filmmaker at IDFA why they were there I was told it was with a film which was a ‘post-Brechtian deconstruction of the Israeli Palestinian conflict’ and on asking the same question at World A Congress the response was ‘to sell 26 hours on killer reptiles’. It gave a wonderful insight to the diversity of the world that is documentary. The creative virtues of anamorphic lenses have become even more important in the digital age, where cinematographers are seeking a distinctive look to enrich every project. In 2015, 40% of Top 100 Grossing Movies in the US have been shot in anamorphic (Imdb source). The Angénieux anamorphic zoom lenses add a dimensional character to the image with the traditional 2x squeeze, yet minimizing breathing and distortion by adopting a modern optical design. The two short anamorphic zooms – Optimo 56-152 A2S and Optimo 30-72 A2S - are based on the Academy award winning Optimo lenses, with the cylindrical optical elements integrated in the rear part of the lens. They inherit the quality and agility of the short Optimo spherical zooms. They are the lightest and most compact anamorphic zoom lenses ever made. Developing a high magnification anamorphic zoom companion has been a new major step in completing Angénieux rear-anamorphic line up.
