UM HOMECOMING SET FOR OCT. 7-11

MISSOULA —

A panel discussion on students as athletes and a concert by the

String Orchestra of the Rockies are among the special events scheduled for The University of Montana's 1991 Homecoming celebration, set for Thursday through Saturday, Oct. 10-12.

The celebration, dubbed "Magic Moments," will also feature such traditional Homecoming highlights as a parade, lighting the "M" on

Mt. Sentinel and honoring distinguished alumni. Reunions will be held for the classes of 1951 and 1966, and for the forestry school classes of 1960-62 and 1966. Other scheduled reunions include Mortar

Board, the alumni band, the 1941 football team, Kappa Kappa Gamma's class of 1951, and the 1946-53 classes of Phi Delta Theta, Kappa

Alpha Theta and Sigma Chi.

The first major public event of Homecoming will be the

traditional Singing on the Steps of Main Hall at 7:30 p.m. Thursday.

The Homecoming king and queen will be announced, and the 1991

Distinguished Alumnus and Alumna Awards will be presented. At

3:15 p.m. the "M" on Mt. Sentinel will be lit.

On Friday, the UM School of Journalism will sponsor a

addressing what happens to student athletes after their eligibility

expires. The panel discussion, "Student Athletes After the Cheers,

is scheduled for 1:30 p.m in the Montana Theatre. Panelists will

include UM Athletic Director Bill Moos, Seattle Post-Intelligencer

Dennison, Lady Griz basketball senior Shannon Cate, former Grizzly coernerback Quinton Richardson and Long Beach, Calif., sports medicine chiropractor Khelly Webb.

Saturday events include the 10 a.m. parade and the Grizzlies'

1:30 p.m. football game against Boise State University. At 8 p.m., the String Orchestra of the Rockies will present its fall concert, an all-Mozart celebration, in the University Theatre. Tickets are $9 general admission, $6 for students and senior citizens. The concert, performed to commemorate the 200th anniversary of Mozart's death, will feature five major pieces: Divertimento in D, Symphony No. 17 in G, Serenade "Eine Kleine Nachtmusick," Divertimento in F and

Symphony No. 29. A reception will be held in the Performing

Arts/Radio-Television Center following the concert.

Other Homecoming events include authors' readings, dances, an exhibit of Frank Bird Linderman Memorabilia in the Paxson Gallery, a

Thursday afternoon lecture by Distinguished Alumni Award winner Dr.

Dennis Stevens and a Friday evening barbecue. The full schedule of events follows:
