The are two objectives in this research, namely to tell types of the slang appeared in this song, and to explain the meaning of slang. This analysis use descriptive method due to the fact that this research describe the meaning of the slangs. The data were taken from the song lyrics of The Black Eyed Peas entitled Boom Boom Pow, Imma Be, Pump It, Shut Up and My Humps. The researcher uses document and records method to gather the data which is by taking note of the slangs appeared in this song, then classifying them by their types, after that explaining their meaning, the researcher analyzing the meanings of the slang using an American Slang Dictionary and the researcher also asked the help of a Native American in analyzing the meanings of slang, finally, give a conclusion. The researcher found there are 37 total data of slangs in the song lyrics of The Black Eyed Peas entitled Boom Boom Pow, Imma Be, Pump It, Shut Up and My Humps. Then there are 37 total data of the meaning of slangs in the song lyrics of The Black Eyed Peas entitled Boom Boom Pow, Imma Be, Pump It, Shut Up and My Humps. Keywords: Sociolinguistics, Slangs, and Song Lyrics 1 Introduction Slang is included in the study of sociolinguistics. It is study of language which has to do with social problems or conditions. It consists of two scientific studies, namely sociology and linguistics. Sociology is related to society, while linguistics is related to language. Sumarsono (2011). Slang is a variety of languages used by an organization, group, teenager, that language is not understood by many people, it is usually only understood by user (organization, group and teenager). Slang language is usually used as a characteristic or identity of a certain group. It has a seasonal nature, the language is not official and not standard (not effective language). Slang is a language used by teenagers, although it does not rule out the possibility of older people also using it. Slang language is usually used by teenagers in communicating through social networks, such as, Facebook, Instagram, Whatsapp, and Twitter. The appearance of slang is influenced by environmental factors and the vocabulary used in slang is always changing. The reason why the researcher chose slang, because slang is a unique and funny language, so the researcher wants to discuss it in more detail to increase knowledge and insight to people who are interested about slang. This research analyzes the slang language contained in the song lyrics of The Black Eyed Peas. The reason why the researcher chose song lyrics of The Black Eyed Peas is because the song lyrics of The Black Eyed Peas use many slang languages in which many people do not really understand and The Black Eyed Peas song lyrics 1 seem funny. In this research, the researcher will be analyzing a slang language contained in the song lyrics of The Black Eyed Peas entitled Boom Bom Pow, Imma Be, Pump It, Shut up, and My Humps. 2 Literature Review The appearance of slang is influenced by environmental factors and the vocabulary used in slang is always changing. The reason why the researcher chose slang, because slang is a unique and funny language, so the researcher wants to discuss it in more detail to increase knowledge and insight to people who are interested about slang. According to Partridge (1950) there are several types of slang, namely: 1. Blending - Blending is a process of combining two or more words become a new word. Usually it is combining the end of the word and the beginning word. The combination of two separate forms to produce a single new term is also present in the process called blending. However, blending is a typically accomplished by taking onlythe beginning of one word and joining it to the end of the other word. In the wordlwide, there is a product that is used as gasoline but is made from alcohol, so the “blended” word for referring to this product is gasohol. To talk the combined effects of smoke and fog, we can use the word smog. Examples: 1. Smaze (smoke + haze) 2. Imma (i am + going + to) 3. Gotta (got + to) 4. Smurk (smoke + murk) 5. Bit (binary + digit) 6. Brunch (breakfast + lunch) 7. Motel (motor + hotel) 2. Someone’s Nickname - Someone’s Nickname is the type of slang related to someone or a thing that has particular conditions toward their appearance. Examples: 1. Chickens - a coward 2. Honey - beloved person 3. Dude – friend 3. Shortened Sentence Forms - Shortened Sentence Forms are any modification of word that is shortened or has been modified by speaker to make the slang appears shorter than the original word. Examples: 1. Y’all - you + all 2. Whatcha – what are you 2 3. Lemme - let me 4. Kinda kind of 5. Bumder – bummer and bender 4. Society Slang - Society slang is commonly used in daily speaking and connected to the society. Every society group uses some types of slang, and by association, those words or phrase become property that belong to that group. Examples: 1. Silver pheasant - A beautiful society woman 2. Booty cadillac - Very sexy butt 3. Lotto - Lottery or Games 4. High as hell - Very drunk This research analyzes the slang language contained in the song lyrics of The Black Eyed Peas entitled Boom Boom Pow, Imma Be, Pump It, Shut Up and My Humps. The reason why the researcher chose song lyrics of The Black Eyed Peas is because the song lyrics of The Black Eyed Peas use many slang languages in which many people do not really understand and The Black Eyed Peas song lyrics seem funny. The Black Eyed Peas is a music group from The United States, precisely formed in Los Angeles, California, many songs from The Black Eyed Peas use slang words that are rarely understood by many people, the following are some songs from The Black Eyed Peas that use slang words: Boom Boom Pow, Boom Boom Pow is song from The Black Eyed Peas which was released as the first single from their fifth studio album T.H.E E.N.D, this song has become the first rank of the Billboard Hot 100 and has become the first in several countries such as Canada, Australia, and England. The next song is Imma Be, Imma Be is one of the songs from the album T.H.E E.N.D from The Black Eyed Peas, this song has become first on on the Billboard hot 100 and become top ten on the Canadian Hot 100. After that there is a song entitled Pump It, Pump It song was released as the fourth single from The Black Eyed Peas album, Monkey Business in 2005, Pump It song is very popular song in England and and get the third rank on the UK Singles Chart. The next song is Shut Up, Shut Up is a song from The Black Eyed Peas which was released on November, 4 2003, this song has become first in Australia, Germany, and France and it is the most successful song ever made by The Black Eyed Peas. The last song is My Humps, My Humps is a song from The Black Eyed Peas which was released in 2005, and this song won the Grammy Awards in 2007. This research discusses about “An anlysis About Slang Language In The Song Lyrics of The Black Eyed Peas Entitled Boom Boom Pow, Imma Be, Pump It, Shut Up and My Humps”. This analysis includes, the types and the meanings of slang language used in the song lyrics of The Black Eyed Peas entitled Boom Boom Pow, Imma Be, Pump It, Shut Up, and My Humps. Datum S-B-1 “Gotta get that” (song lyrics of The Black Eyed Peas entitled Boom Boom Pow - First line) The song lyrics above contain slang language, namey “Gotta”. The word “Gotta” is included slang language because it consists of two words namely got+to. The word “Gotta” is included to the type of slang “Blending”. 3 “Gotta” is an abbreviation of the word “Got+to” which means it must be. This word is usually used to express a necessity that is quite urgent. 3 Research Method The type of this research is qualitative research. Sugiyono (2009: 15) Qualitative research is research that focuses more on social life or daily life in society. The data generated in qualitative research can be in the form words, theories, and explanations. The technique used in qualitative research is observation. Qualitative research is research that focuses on human observations in the community environment related to the language used by them Kirk and Miler (1986).
