E-mail: [email protected]; E-mail: [email protected] Abstract Three new species of the gekkonid genus Cyrtodactylus are described from Peninsular Malaysia; C. jarakensis sp. nov. from Pulau Jarak off the west coast of Perak, C. batucolus sp. nov. from Pulau Besar of the Water Islands Archipelago off the west coast of Melaka, and C. pantiensis sp. nov. from the Gunung Panti Forest Reserve, Johor. All are distin- guishable from other Sunda Shelf species of Cyrtodactylus in having unique combinations of morphological and color pattern characteristics. The continued high potential for finding additional new species in unexplored regions of southern Peninsular Malaysia and its associated archipelagos is further supported with these findings. Hemiphyllodactylus cicak sp. nov. is most closely related to the clade composed of the sister species H. harterti from Bukit Larut, Perak in the Bintang Moun- tain Range and H. bintik from Gunung Tebu, Terengganu from the Timur Mountain Range. -

Although present in Darwin for some time, the C species has only recently become widespread in the Brisbane region. We investigated the density A and distribution of this and two native house-dwelling geckos in urban, suburban and bushland R environments within Brisbane. The spatially clumped insect resources associated with external light T sources were effectively utilised by both urban and suburban populations of Asian House Geckos, S suggesting likely competitive interactions between the species on structures where the species co-existed. -
A New Locality for Correlophus Ciliatus and Rhacodactylus Leachianus (Sauria: Diplodactylidae) from Néhoué River, Northern New Caledonia
Herpetology Notes, volume 8: 553-555 (2015) (published online on 06 December 2015) A new locality for Correlophus ciliatus and Rhacodactylus leachianus (Sauria: Diplodactylidae) from Néhoué River, northern New Caledonia Mickaël Sanchez1, Jean-Jérôme Cassan2 and Thomas Duval3,* Giant geckos from New Caledonia (Pacific Ocean) We observed seven native gecko species: Bavayia are charismatic nocturnal lizards. This paraphyletic (aff.) cyclura (n=1), Bavayia (aff.) exsuccida (n=1), group is represented by three genera, Rhacodactylus, Correlophus ciliatus (n=1), Dierrogekko nehoueensis Correlophus and Mniarogekko, all endemic to Bauer, Jackman, Sadlier and Whitaker, 2006 (n=1), New Caledonia (Bauer et al., 2012). Rhacodactylus Eurydactylodes agricolae Henkel and Böhme, 2001 leachianus (Cuvier, 1829) is largely distributed on the (n=1), Mniarogekko jalu Bauer, Whitaker, Sadlier and Grande Terre including the Île des Pins and its satellite Jackman, 2012 (n=1) and Rhacodactylus leachianus islands, whereas Correlophus ciliatus Guichenot, 1866 (n=1). Also, the alien Hemidactylus frenatus Dumeril is mostly known in the southern part of the Grande and Bibron, 1836 (n=3) has been sighted. Bantimurung Bulusaraung National Park (BabulNP) was gazetted in 2004 to protect the region’s biodiversity and karst ecosystem. However, the park’s herpetofauna is almost unknown. This project consists of three programs: herpetofauna survey in BabulNP, herpetofauna conservation education to local schools, and herpetofauna training for locals and was conducted from July to September 2007. Based on the survey conducted in six sites in the park, we recorded 12 amphibian and 25 reptile species. Five of those species (Bufo celebensis, Rana celebensis, Rhacophorus monticola, Sphenomorphus tropidonotus, and Calamaria muelleri) are endemic to Sulawesi. Two species of the genus Oreophryne are still unidentified. We visited six schools around the park for our herpetofauna conservation education program. Pythons were considered as an uncommon and rare encountered species in India also to the Nicobar Islands. Pythons considered relatively rare appearance to have declined due to frequent eradication by habitat destruction On 25 th August 2013, first individual of reticulated python was caught by the local people at Govind Nagar (Lat: 07° 00.074' N, Long: 093° 54.128' E, Altitude at 49.4 meter) in Great Nicobar Island The second one was rescued on 31 st August 2013 in the same area by the local people. Both the recovered individuals were appeared as juvenile. Investigations on population census of this threatened species and their habitat have been felt from the present incidences. Recent collections in the region have enabled a reassessment of specimens currently referable to G. punctata. We assessed populations genetically using newly generated mitochondrial DNA data in conjunction with recently published phylogenomic data and an unpublished allozyme analysis. In addition, we carried out a detailed morphological examination involving hundreds of specimens across this taxon’s range. Many possible candidate species were recovered from these analyses, and the re-examination of morphology indicated two major clades: one small-bodied and one large-bodied, each comprising multiple divergent lineages within them. A syntype of Peropus variegatus punctatus Fry, 1914, believed to have been lost at the time of Mitchell’s revision in 1965, was recently found in the Western Australian Museum collections, and is here designated as the lectotype of G. -
