ABSTRACT Eight species in two subfamilies of Anthicidae are known from the Virgin Islands: Neoeurygenius portoricensis Abdullah (Eurygeniinae); Anthicus antilleorum Werner, A. crinitus LaFerté-Sénectère, A. floralis (Linneaus), A. tobias Marseul, Vacusus vici- nus (LaFerté-Sénectère), Sapintus teapensis (Champion), and Acanthinus trifasciatus (Fabricius) (Anthicinae).In addition to a key to these species, each is diagnosed and il- lustrated, and the Virgin Islands distribution given. The biogeographical composition of the fauna is discussed. A key to the subfamilies and tribes of West Indian anthicids is provided. RESUMEN Existen ocho especies en tres subfamilias de Anthicidae en las Islas Vírgenes: Neoeurygenius portoricencis Abdullah (Eurygeniinae); Anthicus antilleorum Werner, A. crinitus LaFerté-Sénectère A. floralis (Linnaeus), A. tobias Marseul, Vacusus vici- nus (LaFerté-Sénectère), Sapintus teapensis (Champion), y Acanthinus trifasciatus (Fabricius) (Anthicinae). Además de las claves para la identificación de estas especies, cada una es diagnósticada e ilustrada. Se incluye la distribución de las especies en las Islas Vírgenes. Se discute la composición biogeográfica de la fauna. Se ofrece una clave para las subfamilias y tribus de los Anthicidae de las Antillas. The Virgin Islands are located at the eastern extreme of the Greater Antilles. The northern islands lie on the submerged Puerto Rican Bank, while St. Croix and its sat- ellite islands are separated by a deep trench from the northern islands (Heatwole & MacKenzie 1966). -

A species list, identification key, short diagnoses and illustrations of all taxa are given. Brief information on known ecological preferences of species is given. INTRODUCTION Anthicidae are a cosmopolitan family of small to medium-sized, fast-moving beetles of the superfamily Tenebrionoidea. Anthicidae are represented in the World fauna by approximately 100 genera, and about 3500 species (Chandler, 2010). Only a few species are known from the fossil record. The last revision of the British Anthicidae was published by F. D. Buck (1954) in the well-known series Handbooks for the Identification of British Insects. Since then, there have been numerous nomenclatural changes within Anthicidae, and some additional species (introduced) have been recorded from the UK, making Buck’s key out of date. During 2004 and 2005 a total of 3356 specimens of Anthicidae from the UK and Ireland were examined by the author, mainly from the collections of The Natural History Museum (London), Oxford University Museum of Natural History and National Museum of Ireland. Additional data for more than 2100 specimens were received from other British museums and private collections between 2005 and 2007. A new key and short diagnoses for the genera are presented, as well as data on habitats and general distribution of species. -

Bos Email: [email protected] Received: 31 March 2006 Accepted: 13 August 2006 Published online: 13 June 2007 Abstract The ongoing destruction of tropical rainforests has increased the interest in the potential value of tropical agroforests for the conservation of biodiversity. Traditional, shaded agroforests may support high levels of biodiversity, for some groups even approaching that of undisturbed tropical forests. However, it is unclear to what extent forest fauna is represented in this diversity and how management affects forest fauna in agroforests. We studied lower canopy ant and beetle fauna in cacao agroforests and forests in Central Sulawesi, Indonesia, a region dominated by cacao agroforestry. We compared ant and beetle species richness and composition in forests and cacao agroforests and studied the impact of two aspects of management intensification (the decrease in shade tree diversity and in shade canopy cover) on ant and beetle diversity. The agroforests had three types of shade that represented a decrease in tree diversity (high, intermediate and low diversity). Species richness of ants and beetles in the canopies of the cacao trees was similar to that found in lower canopy forest trees. -

Norwegian Journal of Entomology 65, 175–182. Two new beetle species for Norway were recorded from field surveys in power-line clearings located in predominantly forested areas in Southeastern Norway; Cleopomiarus distinctus Boheman, 1845 (Curculionidae), and Stricticollis tobias Marseul, 1879 (Anthicidae). A total of 81 specimens of the weevil C. distinctus, were found across four sites in Buskerud over the course of three years (2013–2015). C. distinctus has never been recorded in Scandinavia previously. Three specimens of the ant-like flower beetle S. tobias, were found at two sites in Hedmark in 2015. S. tobias has a wide distribution in other Nordic countries and has been recognized as a “doorstep-species” to Norway from Sweden. The biology of the two species are presented and the potential distribution of the species are discussed. Werner DEPARTMENT OF ENTOMOLOGY, UNIVERSITY OF ARIZONA, TUCSON, ARIZONA Eight species of Anthicidae have been collected in the Hawaiian Islands, but only one of these on islands other than Oahu. Three species are cosmopolitan, two North American, and two Micronesian. The eighth, described as new, is of unknown origin and most likely belongs to the Oriental or East Indian faunas which are badly in need of revisionary work. It was compared with specimens in the British Museum in 1960, and E. T. Smith, of Melbourne, compared it with the Australian fauna. I describe it as new in hope that someone will recognize it as a member of the fauna he is studying, just as Anthicus mundulus Sharp, described from Honolulu, eventually proved a member of the fauna of coastal California. Most of the specimens reported here are from the collection of the Hawaiian Sugar Planters' Association, kindly sent for study by J. W. Beardsley. The specimens have been returned to this collection unless another source is indicated. Key to Species 1. Pubescence on elytra dense and double, of decumbent setae directed backward and more numerous fine, short setae beneath them, directed obliquely laterally, in addition to scattered suberect tactile setae. Each elytron with a pale spot behind the base and another behind the middle, the basal spots sometimes con nected across the suture. -

Karazin Kharkiv National University Email: [email protected], [email protected], [email protected], [email protected], [email protected] A total number of 35 spider species and more than 170 insect species from five orders were recorded from the southeast of Poltava Region through the pitfall-trapping in the floodplain meadows. Six spider species, eight true bug species, and five beetle species are new for Poltava Region; one spider species (Pardosa maisa) and one fly species (Aphanotrigonum brachypterum) are new for Ukraine. For A. brachypterum, it is the first record from the East European Plain. Spider assemblages were the most abundant in the terms of species and individuals in a saline meadow while the beetles preferred mesic non-saline meadows. A checklist of collected species is given, and the geographic distribution of the rare species is discussed.
