Together with our CEO Caroline Dave and Board of Directors Lydia Mangubat, John Paul Villar and Election Committee Member Michelle Cruz, we visited some big Coops in Northern Luzon last July 11 – 13, 2019. We were surprised on the expansions they are undertaking on their respective Coops. There is one coop that is constructing an 8-floor Hotel on top of the resort that has been already operating. They were aggressive in putting up additional business ventures as well as expanding their operations as far as . The other cooperative we visited is developing an 18 hectares property which is for their Eco-Tourism Project. Except for Baguio-Benguet Coop, the three other coops that we have visited such as Sacred Heart Coop, Abra Diocesan and Sta. Cruz Savings and Credit (SACDECO) were all expanding their areas and scope of operation and may reach Metro in the months to come.

II. 9th National Tripartite Conference

Last September 11 – 13, 2019, some Officers and Managers of our Cooperative attended the 9th National Tripartite Conference for Cooperative Development held in General Santos City. The theme of the event was “Kapayapaan, Kaunlaran at Kalikasan sa Diwa ng Kooperatiba”. This is part of our continuous education and training and Cooperative matters that we will be up to date in the new laws, regulations as well as the progress of the cooperative movement in the Philippines.

Various topics were discussed and I think the following are worth mentioning:

1. The plan to remove the tax-exemptions of the cooperatives. Our Keynote Speaker Senator Migz Zubiri who is personally present in the conference assured the delegates that he will protect the interest of the cooperative. Some other Government Officials were also promising the same. 2. The new law abort the restructuring of the Cooperative Development Authority was also discussed. The IRR of the law is still being drafted and we hope by the end of the year, it will be completed. All in all, the conference for me is a success as it tackles matters regarding the relationships, collaboration between coops, CDA, Local Government as well as the other Gov’t Agencies which are helping for the development and purposes of the stability of the Cooperatives in our country.

III. Asian Credit union Forum 2019

Some of our Officers and Management Staff also attended the Asian Credit Union Forum last September 26 -28, 2019 in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. The theme of the forum is “Making Positive Impact on the Lives of People” through ethical cohesion for financial stability, Good Governance and Inclusivity of Asian Credit Union Networks. We were once again given ACCESS Brand Award Silver Category. We were the first in Asia and in the Philippines to garner 5 Bronze and 4 Silver ACCESS Brand Awards. These awards are dedicated to all members of San Jose Koop, our patrons, our supporters and all our colleagues who are always with us through thick and thin. As in our tagline “Together We Are Stronger”.

We attended the various break-up session which includes (a) Financial Stability (b) Good Governance (c) Inclusivity. We divided our Officers and three groups so that we can learn the good ideas and best practices of various cooperatives in Asia as well the world. There were also several speakers coming from Canada, USA, Australia and other parts of the world.

Some of our Officers will report on their experiences on the Forum. On our part, we will see to it that those learning’s especially the best practices will be implemented in our Cooperative for our continuous progress and growth.

6 MASIKAP Newsletter 3rd Quarter 2019 SAN JOSE KOOP SENIOR CITIZENS’ DAY By: Jovita V. Mateo

very month of August, San Jose Koop celebrates Senior Citizens’ Day to show them our appreciation, Esupport and recognize their accomplishments. It was held last August 29, 2019 at Poblacion I City Covered Court. There were 149 Senior Citizens and PWD who attended this event.

We prepared lots of activities and programs as form of their entertainment and relaxation. As early as 7:00 in the morning, they had basic zumba workout, a blood pressure and fasting blood sugar monitoring done by our cooperative nurse. Simultaneously, a brief information on Geriatric Syndrome was conducted by our City Health Nurse, Mr. Marvin Payumo. In addition, a free haircut to our senior citizens was also given by our hairdresser members.

We do hope that our beloved Senior Citizen members enjoyed and treasured this special day. Let us always pray that our cooperative stays firm and stronger for the coming years, because every San Jose Koop’s triumph is also the success of all members.

MASIKAP Newsletter 3rd Quarter 2019 7 San Jose Koop’s Donation of Multicab to Yakal Multipurpose Cooperative By: John Paul Villar

he Sixth Principle, “Cooperation among Cooperatives” encourages the cooperatives to Twork together and unite as part of the cooperative movement. In such a way, San Jose Koop has chosen the Yakal Multipurpose Cooperative in Bgry. Yakal Francisco Homes, San Jose del Monte to give assistance and help them in promoting importance of environmental awareness in the community.

Last September 5, 2019, Yakal MPC have formally received our donation of 4x4 Multicab to be used in collecting waste and other recyclable materials. Some of their collected degradable materials or also known as “organic waste” is being granulated to produce a natural fertilizers. In addition, their cooperative members increase their Share Capital in exchange of water bottles and other plastic materials to, atleast, lessen the damages it cause in the environment. One of our responsibilities as cooperatives is to minimize safety issues and environmental impacts from wastes and non-conforming materials.

We are truly filled with gratitude by their environmental advocacy as San Jose Koop shares the same value in sustaining the lives of members as well as preserving and protecting our environment. Together, cooperatives can integrate our social and economic benefits, utilising combined resources to achieve common goals. As the quote says, “Alone we can do little; together we can do so much.”

ur members are our top priority, hence San Jose Koop continuously sustain its members’ needs by proving Othem quality services through livelihood trainings and programs to contribute for their life betterment. A Basic Baking Seminar was held last September 20, 2019 at SJDMSCC building participated by the members. I was fortunate enough to be part this activity since I was assigned as the emcee of the program.

The Member Services Committee and some staffs were also there to give support and assistance in every cooperative activity. Mrs. Fe Palabyab as the baking instructor made a smooth flow of workshop. She was able to share some of her life experiences and inspirations as to why baking is really her passion.

During the seminar, I have seen the participants were all learning and indulging the activity at the same time. The instructor was actually very hands-on to each participant to create a good product outcome. Although baking seems like easy as pie, it requires proper measurements of ingredients for a good and well-done taste. I came to realize that baking is also a form of art. A person’s creativity is also an expression of their whole being and everyone is capable of everything if we love what we do.

San Jose Koop not only provide financial services to members, our cooperative is also committed to improve lives of members through livelihood programs. I am hoping that this seminar would empower the members’ well-being and provide them access to good quality of life through developing their skills and expertise with the help of San Jose Koop.
