Mineral names as Lavriotite, Kamarizite, Ktenasite, Thorikozite, Serpierite originated from the area of Lavrion; All the above mentioned facts witness the special geological‐mineralogical setting and geodiversity of the area under concern. In addition and intimately interconnected with it, the archeological and cultural setting, as well as the biotic environment are of outstanding beauty and designated as international values. For all above reasons Lavreotiki area is considered as a geological, natural and cultural heritage of international significance that can be appreciated through conservation, education and geotourism and our Commission supports the application to the European and Global Geoparks Networks. The Lavreotiki Region is already a protected natural reserve and a nominated archaeological park, by the Greek Ministry of Culture. We fully agree for the submission of the request to European Geoparks and UNESCO Global Geoparks Secretariat, and for the implementation of the management plan which will guarantee the quality and the effectiveness of nature conservation, geotourism activities and sustainable development in the region.
